IMO complete trash is Forspoken tier.

This game is very unlikely to be as great as Arcanum, but I also don't think that will be Forspoken tier.

They’re a niche then, and still now. That’s the problem.
Agreed, but it feels different now than it did then. Back then, it was almost like anyone that developed something because there were so few developers and publishers, it got "published". There really wasn't a AAA studio/publisher versus indie. There were bugs and such, but nothing like Cyberpunk 2077's release. The quality back then seemed more uniform.
The quality was more consistent. First, the technological limitations were pretty uniform across the industry. It put a cap on what could be attempted, innovated, and what presentation was possible. Second, QA was more efficient and effective. The smaller scope of games and greater necessity to have something ship intact reinforced this consistency.
Yeah, I know, the enshitification curve.

But it doesn’t have to stay that way. Triple A gaming is currently heading off a cliff. That’s creating a vacuum that can be exploited by indies.

We’re reaching the point where artistic integrity is outshining corporate greed. So we need devs to stop making D&D clones, because we already have more than anyone can play in a lifetime, and start going back to the well of other genres again. Bring back the experimental phases.

Took a gander at the trailer given its infamy, and wow that is some "He was in the Amazon with my mom when she was researching spiders right before she died"-quality dialogue.

Magic vs Technology Conflict Explained - Watch the New Arc Line Story Trailer!
90f573e703cfdc21570155d711edd0185d5fd6cd.png

Greetings, Magicians and Technologists!

We have revealed a brand-new story trailer, focusing on one of the many storylines you may encounter while exploring the world of New Arc Line. Let's watch it together now and then for all your inquisitive minds, we have added more details below!
We don't want to spoil too much, since you will have a chance to meet the heroine of the trailer yourselves during your playthrough, so we’ll keep it short and sweet - the aftermath of the events shown in the video is a subject of one of the many side-quests in the game, and the tragic story of the mother and daughter is actually just a small fragment of a larger conspiracy. What we can tell you however, is that the heroine's transformation is a manifestation of the conflict between magic and technology in our world. Mages who cast spells in places saturated with technology can become distorted, abhorrent, warped; and vice versa, in locations with strong magical affinity, technology will be inefficient, stop working or experience catastrophic failures.

Thus, the central conflict of New Arc Line is inevitable - where magic thrives, technologists cannot prosper, and where technology and science prevail, mages cannot survive. This dynamic allows you to experience many stories, adventures and quests; some dark and terrifying, such as the fate of the family we have shown, but some wondrous and joyful. And your choices will help shape the world and write the complete story of New Arc Line.

So the question remains - which side will you choose?

They did a good job on the visuals and those posters are cool... but the trailer monologue was atrocious. Hopefully the visuals and gameplay will make up for any awkward writing.

Decent content and gameplay systems will save it even if the writing is ass.

It's a "story-rich" game that likely is narrative-driven. This won't be like Battle Brothers where you can ignore the writing.

It's over.

Posters are from 2 years ago. Trailer is from now. WOKE virus spreads through body and slowly twists and destroys mind. It's CLEAR from early game reveal when game was also isometric and had completely different tone to art style, atmosphere and gameplay. Also, back then: zero nigger elves, orc trannies or Overwatch GirlBosses in SteamPunk 19th century Fantasy Ukraine. It was much, much better. Posters above will most likely have NOTHING with final game. This is game that went through metamorphosis. Blackrock financial injection happened at some point

Anyway, game studio will get hit with Iskander, or something like this, before release. Don't get emotionally attached to this. Another Encased

BTW: Steam forums for the game are full of threads about current day retarded politics. Big thread about SweetBabyInc's potential involvent was closed by Devs, refusing to give an answer. Just like when they were asked here "What is a woman?". I guess zero biologists on the team

So much about Codex being shizo. People are genuinely sick and tired of WOKE propaganda and esthetics. Massive anger and violence is being born

New Arc Line Gamescom First Look and Q&A – A cRPG About Magic vs Technology

Alessio Palumbo • Sep 2, 2024 09:30 AM EDT

Are the rules inspired by Dungeons & Dragons?

We don't copy/paste the rules of any existing RPG. But yes, of course, inspiration is drawn from that, as well as the Baldur's Gate and Divinity: Original Sin series.

Are there attacks of opportunity when you're close to an enemy and they move?

That's the other way around here. You don't just have action points but also reaction points. When you are attacked, you get a chance to use those points to react so you can counterattack, depending on the character's build.

You said there is leveling, right? Did you settle on a level cap already or is it still to be decided?

It's one of the design decisions that's still being worked on.

Can you stay in the middle between magic and technology or do you have to absolutely choose between one or the other?

You have to choose if you want to play as a Magic user or technologist, but with all other choices in the world, you don't have to go to extremes. You can also try to avoid the conflict as much as possible and, quite often, just walk away and not get involved.

Your goal is to find a cure for the Iron Plague, for the family that you left back home. You moved to the city because you heard of the rumors that there is a cure. That's what you want, that's what you're looking for. You can stick to that.

Maybe there is a way that magic and technology can coexist.

Unfortunately, that won't be the case. There's always conflict; it's inherent in the world, and you can't solve that now. They can coexist in the sense that Mages have not died out after the technology wars when they were defeated. But one side will always have the upper hand.

Are you going to have any voice over for dialogues in New Arc Line?

Oh yes, not for every dialogue in every quest and every character, but we have quite thorough voiceovers, especially for the main events.

Can you have relationships with your companions, like in Baldur's Gate 3?

Yes, there are companions that you can romance, and it'll of course, depend on the character you create and the choices you make.

Would they potentially leave your party if they don't agree with what you're doing?

Yes, yes.

Do you have a day/night cycle?

No, no, there's no day/night cycle.

Can you explore the city freely from the start of the game, or do you have to wait to progress in the story?

You open up new areas by completing certain quests and tasks, but it's up to you in what order you do it, so there's a lot of freedom. In the very beginning, you will be a little bit steered on your way, but as you progress, you will have more and more freedom, and it'll be up to you.

So, is there a lot of side content?

Yes.

Do you have an estimate for the average playthrough length of New Arc Line?

That's really hard to say. Every estimate has also been changing as we've been developing new mechanics and content. Also it depends a lot how you play a game. You can spend hours exploring and diving deep into the lore, so yeah, it's really hard to give an estimate on that, but it's not going to be a short game by any means. We're not talking five hours. Around 20 or more is the target.

How many classes are there?

In the beginning, there are six classes to choose from. Three technologists (Steampunk brawler, Dieselpunk engineer, and Teslapunk scientist) and three magical classes (Voodoo Mage, the Hellfire Mage, which is more direct damage oriented, and the Celestial, which is the support type of character). Through leveling and building out the character, you will also get to our prestige classes to further customize them.

How big is the party? How many companions can you bring in combat at once?

It's three companions you can have at the party plus yourself.

Do you have a camp where you go talk to them, or can you just talk to them anywhere?

You can talk to them anywhere.

Did you set a release window for New Arc Line?

The development team is in Ukraine, so you can imagine it's difficult. We're still aiming for this year. We're exploring different options for releasing the game, but we are aiming for a release in 2024. We should actually have a better idea in just a few weeks, so we'll be making an announcement soon.

So it could be released as an early access game?

It is one of the options we are considering, but it's not decided yet. It will eventually come out on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series S|X. Early access on PC and then full release later on the other platforms is one of the options that's being considered.

Does the game already support controllers on PC with a dedicated UI?

I don't know that we have tested that yet. I'd have to find out from the production team.

Okay. Thank you for your time.

New Arc Line: The Iron Plague Explained
90f573e703cfdc21570155d711edd0185d5fd6cd.png

Greetings, Magicians and Technologists!

We are excited to share with you more details from the lore of New Arc Line - the inciting incident, and underlying cause of the game’s story, in fact! The protagonist sets out on a journey to save their family, and their whole village, from a terrible affliction known as the “Iron Plague.” On your quest, you will encounter many obstacles and other adventures and pursuits you can choose to undertake; but the Iron Plague is an integral, ever-present part of the game’s world. That’s why we would like to tell you more about it now.

The Plague’s Origins
No one fully understands how the Iron Plague came to be, how it spreads or what exactly causes it. What is known is that it began spreading after the Mago-Technology Wars. Scientists believe it to be a result of the clash between magic and technology, manifesting directly inside living beings. Even though technology has long dominated the country, the Iron Plague continues to devastate all sentient races.

A Deadly Disease
The sickness causes a person's skin and internal organs to sprout growths composed of iron. Once infected, one can only wait for their inevitable end – the Iron Plague is universally fatal, and nobody has found a cure. Even the transmission methods are not fully understood; still, many communities choose to isolate their sick in a vain attempt to stop the plague from spreading.

Inequality and the So-Called Treatment
There is one remedy that can at least slow down the progress of the disease, but it is extremely rare and expensive, only the rich can hope to obtain it – dragon blood. It is a cruel and deeply ironic twist of fate that a magical substance is the only hope for life that a wealthy technologist has. For those who can't afford such luxuries, the government pretends to control the epidemic. It even tells panicked citizens that they are being treated – all lies, of course. In the game, hospitals have separate blocks for plague patients, and there's even a fully separated Leprosarium. In these institutions, automatons are used to… Provide care to patients.

(Spoiler! wink-wink) A special quest awaits particularly interested players in this location.

Mages or Technologists? Indiscriminate Killer
Our main goal was to highlight the game's core conflict: the clash between magic and technology and class inequality. We focused on how both groups react to the epidemic, possible clashes, and the myths surrounding the disease. In the slums, you can hear all kinds of dubious gossip about the Iron Plague. Irritated technologists blame the mages, while desperate mages look for unlikely cures or simply escape reality with an illicit drug made from pixie dust. The truth is, the disease doesn’t discriminate and kills members of both groups equally – yet not even this great equalizer is enough to bridge the chasm between the distinct social groups and make them work together. And when we say “indiscriminate,” we mean it - even the player character may get infected and feel the effects of the plague.

Inspiration and Narrative Purpose
We drew inspiration from medieval epidemics such as the Black Death, particularly conceptually - the visuals, crafted by our artists, blend classic steampunk aesthetics with reimagined looks of plague doctors and patients. Narratively, we wanted to infuse the game with a sense of uncertainty and anxious anticipation in society;. To that end, the ongoing Iron Plague epidemic serves as a catalyst, highlighting the many other problems inherent in New Arc’s society.

Thank you for joining us on this brief foray into the world of New Arc Line – we hope you enjoyed it! We will soon share even more details from the development of the game. Until then, we will be glad if you share all your questions or even speculations about the Iron Plage here in the comments, the Steam Discussions, or better yet, join the official New Arc Line Discord server! We do reserve the right not to give any spoiler-containing answers though, of course.

And don't forget to wishlist & follow the game here on Steam, so you stay up to date on all news and announcements!

Until next time!

They are still trying to release it at 2024? I was sure they are going to delay it to next year, just like Avowed and KCD 2.
