Darklife, you can probably pester one of the codex slaves moderators. Maybe donating directly to the codex through account upgrades and then making DU's life miserable in order to add the money himself to the fundraiser, could do the trick.

Codexian party should make derogatory comments about real time with pause and cooldowns while engaging in combat

Danm popamole crap!
Is my cooldown over yet?
What the hell, cooldowns?

It should be something subtle enough, something obvious would be way too jarring. Four Five Horsemen of Decline is actually decent idea but it can't be too obvious or out-of-place.

About the 5000 pledge for the Inn. Has the codex actually tried to contact Obsidian about this ? I'm sure we could come to an agreement and get an extra slot for the inn. We know they love the codex, anyway.

Cannot agree more, Crooked Bee what do you make of it ? A Codexian InnBrothel would be truly the in-game presence that we seek. Maybe Gamebanshee reserved an inn and won't make the $5k ? I do not know, but I'd love nothing more than having that inn. Well, the horsemen of decline are the next best thing and not bad at all either. But still.

I disagree. The party of adventurers tier was made especially for forum communities. We can't give that up. Do you want there to be a SomethingAwful party or a NeoGAF party but no Codex party? :decline:

You know, when I read those ideas and look at the number of pledges that promise in-game characters, items, parties, inns or whatnot, I am certain Obsidian won't make the uber-cool mature RPG they set out to make, but one huge amusement park, full of all kinds of offhand jokes and obscure references no one will get.

Yes, of course, those are the ONLY things that will be in the game. There won't be time to make anything else. WE'RE FUCKED.

:yeah:

DU, I grant you permission to take all the money over 5k and use it to buy hookers server upgrades.

So the new and enhanced servers would be finally able to process all those "retarded" and "decline" and "racist" ratings DU had to take off "because they were too much of a server load", hmm? :smug:

Yay.

Bro, how many Inns there were in BG2? Or unique NPCs? Or items? Now, imagine the scale of PE. It's enough for the slapstick stuff to constitute 20% of experience to come across as completely out of place.

Edit: The only hope is Obsidian won't allow pointless cameos and merely take directions for designing all that stuff from the pledgers.

I say there could have been lots that we wouldn't have noticed. (there weren't, but there could have been)

There was a fuckload of inns in BG 1 and I think we know Obsidian can make things tasteful (KOTOR 2, PS:T, MotB)
Drink the Kool-Aid already!

Only if they are well integrated in the game world. The problem is that references are quite easy to spot. Even if you don't know what they are directed at they are always out of place. My point is, instead of the focused experience Obsidian will have to take into account needs and wants of individual players, who won't be satisfied with a token mention (I know Codex won't be) and want to be recognised as them (as Codex wants).

They have to take them into account? I'm not so sure.

Which were boring and had nothing interesting in them. They were pretty badly designed.

Hmm... this made me think... how many inns were there in MotB - this pearl by Obsidian? And how many references they had?

Bottom line - if you want your stuff to be meaningful you can't waste your time on inane shit which undermines your efforts.

They promised that in their pitch. "NAME AND DESIGN AN NPC! Help us design an NPC!" - 78 backers. That's 78 NPCs that have to be somehow squeezed into design.

The inns in BG1 were actually taken directly from FR sourcebooks.

Exactly, "help us". Help them by providing a name, maybe a general outline, then they do the rest. :smug:

That much I figured out. Completely souless copy-paste in most cases. BG2 was better in this regard.

If so then why Codex is so concerned about the set-up of its party, if Obsidian will simply override everything we decide? :smug:

Because we do hope to have an impact - as all those people who poured thousands of dollars into the game.
