Resident Evil got decent remakes because they took old games and improved upon them.
Resident Evil translates well to action. Even though it started out as methodical survival horror it always had that over-the-top 80s action style vibe of blowing shit up with big guns long before RE4. Silent Hill does not translate to action.

Saw a guy who killed 377 Monster in the end. My god they fucked it up.
To get 10 Stars for the best raring in the OG you had to kill 150 enemies ....

Game is actually longer than original and has new puzzles. Which mean that if you are stuck on puzzle and run around you will kill more enemies.

Making it a action game, what a joke.

Speaking of, if you recall the puzzle(?) where you need to throw the cans of juice down the chute to dislodge the coin, Bloober Team actually put the cans literally right next to the chute instead of finding it in one of the hallways in the original. Maybe they change that on Hard puzzles but to have that as default shows how highly they think of their audience. Maybe mods will fix it.
They did put the cans by the chute. It's dumb but there's a replacement puzzle with a really dumb mechanic. It's much harder than finding cans some where else.

The game is very linear though. Everything tells you where to go next and the map points it out to you. You can explore but there's no rewards worth having so far.

Combat is dull and the way you take damage is stupid. Lying figure will 'wind up' and gain hyper armour. So you're mid swing and it hits you. Or it can spray you. Can be difficult to avoid damage unless you do very boring things. The mannequins play like punch out but enemy placement is an issue. They always hide behind corners and jump out at you or run away and do the same. They're effectively jump scares and quite hard some times. Not hard as in a skill check, but hard as in they will dodge shit with read inputs then do decent damage in return. They're not designed for such a simple combat system and it's weird.

15 hours is a LONG time to be bored. I don't know if I'll finish it. It's the type of game where it's so boring you don't want to pay attention to it directly (think grinding in a MMO or minecraft) but it's got annoying mechanics where you have to pay at least some attention to it. The level design is the worst thing. Bland hallways every where and then rooms to search with nothing interesting in them.

The reception is weird. I don't understand how any one can find this game fun. I play a lot of bad games and I find aspects of them I can enjoy but this isn't even a bad but fun game. It just exists and given enough time it will go down as an extremely bland remake in the wrong genre. It's a modern silent hill sequel based off of the American silent hills but they are at least functional games of the era and not this mess.

I cannot exist in a world where Bloober not only makes a good game,
I wouldn't go as far as to call it a "game" but Observer was alright. Had some nice ideas and having Rutger Hauer be the voice actor for the main character helped.

It's not enough that every new game needs to be cinematic over the shoulder walking sim slop. They have to go back and change old games to fit that formula too so everything is the same. Fuck Sony and fuck anyone who buys this slop.

What the fuck was Akira Yamaoka thinking with the soundtrack. There was nothing wrong with the original soundtrack. It sounds like shit in Silent Hill 2 Remake and the tracks I downloaded. What the fuck seriously, the OST is a demaster

Did you play the fucking game? It sounds like you just downloaded a bunch of music and have no context for it. Silent Hill's original music (ignoring the lyric tracks used for trailers) was a bunch of random fucking noise. It sucked to listen to outside of the game. In game it worked because it's not listening music, it's atmospheric music.

You haven't played the remake. You listened to the music on your phone and looked at promotional pictures. And you don't even read the thread because I've been posting repeatedly about my experiences with the remake and it's constant issues.

Anime avatar doesn't play games and wants us to take Xir opinion seriously :philosoraptor:

Counter Point :

I can only put 5 media links but I had more in mind
Love psalm in particular I can play whenever the mood hits me. And this goes double for the soundtrack in SH3. "Please love me once more", "end of small sanctuary" and "I've been losing you" are amazing.

After an hour or two more, I will not be finishing this. I was hoping to do a review, but I'm just not feeling it all. It's incredible how much of the atmosphere is ruined by knowing the story in this case. It's also kinda boring, and I usually love the slow paced nature of these games. Everything feels off. I'm surprised at the rating on Steam though. Seems people love it. Wonder if it's going to be one of those games that will be slaughtered in retrospect. Also, the game started to stutter like all hell when I decided to run instead of slowly walking around.

I think a huge issue with the game is switching to a third-person action-cam, when it's not really an action game. At least not the original. And with that, all those crazy camera angles were lost in translation for atmosphere. Instead, they replaced that with an increase in the amount of enemies.

Silent Hill 2 pummels the Resident Evil remakes. Feels like a PS2 game with modern graphics and good combat.

Completed the hospital section. Really well paced and engaging the whole time. Combat is frequent which keeps things interesting as you explore. You're always finding ammo and health pots (playing on easy) so I never feel like I'm struggling.

Were these added notes in the original version? I never played it because the controls were so god awful, but I really love the notes. Adds a lot of flavor.

One interesting observation and question. Do you think they had to put the arrows above the combination lock because zoomers don't know they work? Similar to how they don't know how to read an analog clock? Pretty funny.

Just look at this. It's incredible to witness first hand. Spooky encounter here btw. Made me scream like a little girl.

Had a 'Jigsaw' type encounter on the elevator. "Hello James, I want to play a game..." Still have no clue what that was about. Felt very meta and fourth wall breaking.

Most of those are trailer music or remixes of it.

The majority of silent hill music sounds like this and it's not intended to be listened to out of context.

One aspect of Silent Hill 2 Remake Tsuboyama doesn’t sound thrilled about is Konami’s marketing for the game. He says “it seems like they're [Konami] not doing enough to convey the appeal of the work to the generation that doesn't know Silent Hill,” while pointing to the inclusion of the Mira the Dog Mask and the PS5 exclusive Robbie the Rabbit Mask DLC pre-order bonuses.

“To be honest, I'm not satisfied with the playable camera from 23 years ago. Depth and angle were limited by the processing load,” he said. “It was a continuous process of hard work that was not rewarded. But that was the limit.”

It sounds like Tsuboyama has come down in favor of the switch, saying: “The over-the-shoulder view definitely adds to the sense of realism. In other words, it makes me want to try playing the even more immersive remake of Silent Hill 2.”

The original Silent Hill 2 had plenty of goofiness in among its horror, so Tsuboyama may be upset at the idea of players running around the game wearing the DLC masks during their first playthrough, rather than their second or third.

Minor spoilers I guess.

You're trapped in a closet by a man wearing a massive metal helmet and an apron. Do you

A. Shoot him in the chest and damage vital organs
or
B. Shoot him in the massive metal helmet?

Remake James is a fucking idiot and chooses B. Why? Why would any one ever pick to shoot at metal over exposed flesh?

Question 2.

You enter the dark world and see a lying figure. Something you've beaten with a club probably 50 times now.

Do you
A. Shoot it?
B. Hit it with the club to save your ammo like you have the last 50?

If you pick B, enjoy taking damage. Lying figures now explode gunk on death and hurt you if you finish them with the club. Nothing communicates this. I just took a bunch of damage for doing what the game taught me to do up until this point.

It's funny that you mention this. I'm playing Silent Hill 2 Enhanced Edition and just completed the above puzzle. I'm surprised you don't have to spin it twice, then once, before arriving at your numbers. Are japanese padlocks different in that you just turn the one time?

No, on PS2 the map only had marker for where you are, and which doors are locked / open if you try to open a door or enter place. Rest you had to figure out for yourself
