New patch released. They added NVIDIA DLSS frame generation and improved the performance, among other things.

If it only took two weeks to fix the stuttering and add framegen why couldn't they have done it before release? A lot of people already beat the game with crappy performance and have moved on.

I remember during Gen7 the screenshot comparisons between CoD, Killzone, and MoH, and how they were virtually indistinguishable. These Remakes are now increasingly turning into the same mash of uniformity.

It's what consoomers want, I guess.

I replayed SH2 using the EE mod and it was awesome. I forgot how funny the dialogue could be. The DLC with Maria was ass though.

First video I've seen since he left Escapist. He's mostly right, of course. When next I play Shadow of the Colossus it will be the original again so that I can once again appreciate the artistry and ingenuity/tricks that went into making the game for the very limited PS2, which, like Yahtzee says here, is lost in a remake. "The Silent Hill 2 remake didn't have to find creative ways to bypass its limitations, because there aren't any anymore, really... But the irony is a lack of parameters can be stifling to creativity. Everything starts to become homogeneous." Exactly. But when he says a cinematic camera isn't immersive, that's where I disagree. I always feel separated from the character anyway, in every game. His videos are too short. I know he wanted to say more.

Since i stopped seeing his videos for good after his comments on Rawlings (better, his vomit; not for the "celebrity" herself, but for the way, gaining points with a certain audience, fuck the subtleties, i guess, like reasoning) on what was supposed to be a review of a videogame, sarcastic as it may be, the shorter and kept talking about games and not politics, the better.

I think it's funny to say that the game is indifferentiable from other modern games for having an over the shoulder camera. Meanwhile the original had the same camera system that mostly of the games from that era (And genre) also had. There's nothing truly remarkable about how SH2 used the third person and some fixed angles.

The original Silent hill however, is another story (The first otherworld transtition is communicated to the player through the dynamic shots in the alley).

For me personally, this Silent Hill 2 remake is a triumph and my personal GOTY for 2024, beautifully blending nostalgia with modern innovation. Blooper Team’s remake has set a new standard for psychological horror remakes, showcasing that a faithful recreation can still feel fresh and exhilarating not to mention completely anxiety-inducing (the new Toluca Prison section is going to shred even the hardest of nerves). This remake doesn’t just rely on high-definition graphics; it revitalises the emotional core of Silent Hill 2 while amplifying its horror and immersiveness for a new generation. For fans and newcomers alike, Silent Hill 2 (2024) is a haunting, unforgettable experience that cements itself as a new horror classic that sits comfortably alongside the original.

After all the tiresome negative online discourse surrounding the game by "fans' , some who seem hellbent on wanting to see the game fail because Konami named Blooper Team as the development house, but Blooper Team absolutely nails it here. They clearly understood the assignment and then went above and beyond that was expected of them where you can see the love the team has for original source game because they have poured their heart and souls into this one and it shows. Well done Blooper Team, talk about a flex and a serious level up.

One word or phrase to sum up the experience: Anxiety-inducing and nerve-wracking
8.75/10

I copypasted some random ass Steam review, but you negative nellies would probably love this game if you could see past Maria's jawline being two inches too wide or whatever.

I don't understand. Lots of years saying about "Silent Hill is not as actiony and jumpscary as RE" and critizising entries like Homecoming because its pointless repetitive gimmicks, tone and being combat heavy...and yet a Silent Hill 2 remake with more enemies and jumpscares than lots of Resident Evil games, with mostly obligatory combat, a more "realistic" and less lynchian tone, sanitized story (which was bloated to +20 hours long btw), nerfed radio and lots of pointless repetitive gimmicks...isn't just fine, but a masterpiece, the original but improved and best Silent Hill game! It's Silent Hill 2 but fixed!

Yeah, I finished the game. I wouldn't call it exactly bad game by itself, and it has lots of detail and effort behind, it's the best western entry, but if this is the evolution of Silent Hill then I'm a monkey's uncle. And I replayed the first two Silent Hill games before the remake. I love the original SH2, but it isn't even my favourite (it's the first game).

When a (decent) rerelease of original games? Lots of saying about "masterpiece" or "piece of work" but so little care about preservation of the original work.

Its easy, the people "hating" on Homecoming are the original Silent Hill fans who were measuring it against the original trilogy which they played.

The people praising the remake are the new age fans who are fans of the idea of Silent Hill 2 but have never actually played it.

This is the curse that all remakes bring upon their source franchise. They delude what made the original special and inject a fake fanbase that ultimately is just a bunch of tourists enamored with the concept of the franchise rather than its substance.

Homecoming was criticised because is mediocre at best, same as Downpour. Not because they are more action focused. The team silent games were also focused on action, there's plenty of enemies and ammo scattered to the scenarios. On the OG Silent hill you can reach the elementary school with +50 bullets on your inventory easily even after killing several enemies. But they were really solid survival horror games. In Homecoming and Downpour there's issues in the story, the level design, atmosphere and riddles design. Still, these games still have appraisal in the horror fanbase because at least they tried to be horror games.

As "souless" it may be, the remake is better than the other western SH games in those aspects.
