I bought it on April from a key reseller site form 38 bucks or so, it's worth it. I have to play it in bursts (time and it's not my genre of games) thus I got to the end of route B just now, after 43 hours. The start of route C is.... something.
It's impressive how it keeps throwing at you new things (and I'm talking gameplay). Plot has been an endless amount of wat even considering it's a Taro game.
A2 sounds like the angrier cousin of Zero. If that's even possible
And Operator 60 screaming about flooowers when the bunker was colllapsing was rather creepy and SS-like. Thanks Taro, throwing at me mockingly my own good deeds. Goddammit.

So how does the PC-Port hold up? I read very mixed reviews on steam.

Dunnow. I'm playing with an incredibly subpar rig (laptop) and with the FAR mod, and thanks to a bit of juggling with the options I have somewhat solid FPS and not a single crash or problem.
If it wasn't for the discussions on steam crying blood, I'd think this is a very solid port.
They released a patch this month to address the issue of AMD users getting white screens. Dunno if it worked

They just said a new AMD driver might fix the issue. The game itself was not patched (not to mention the white screen issue also happens with Nvidia cards).

So, about the game. Gameplay-wise it's not my cup of tea, even if I think I'll buy Bayonetta after this just to check. I'm not a 3rd person action guy, so I played it on normal and found it fun enough. On normal you can experiment and goof around with weapons\combos and pod programs, and chip allocation makes fighting mostly a breeze (died two times, both to dark orb spam). Hacking and flying sections were relaxing changes of pace, keeping things fresh. Enemy variety was rather good, the introduction of debuff machines in Route C was needed. The only negative were some jumps when you get fixed perspective: fuck that.
Performance with a subpar laptop was good enough. Never had a crash, low bus solid FPS. Slowdowns just against some bosses.
Plotwise, it's weird. I liked it a lot, but one has to admit that 1) it becomes more and more anime and melodramatic as you advance, particularly the Tower, and 2) 2B, despite being the "face", is fairly bland. 9S is probably the closest thing Automata has to a "true protagonist", but even A2, and you play as her for a limited time, has more..... how to say..... grit? that 2B. It does not help that the cancerous graphic style of Yorha hits 2B harder while A2 is merely well, a naked machine with clearly visible seams. The machines were more interesting than 2B. 6O, despite being comic relief, was more charming.
But that's me. And the game is fun on the meta level. Well done, Taro.
Fun thing that I expected some save shenanigans and got a backup. Dunnow if I should feel bad. Guess now to atone I'll have to 100% it and then send it to help some poor fuck around the world.
PS: One of the enduring doubts is why Yorha has a latewar German theme going on. The Ho229 flying units, StG-44 rifles everywhere, the combat suit has a Stahlhelm, the operation at the beginning of route C is "Berlin 1946". I guess it's a case of "because Japan", but sometimes you wonder.....

No, rest of the game is very easy, especially with auto-heal chips. You can remove them to turn it into more of an action game akin to a simpler Bayonetta if you crave a challenge; or you can turn the difficulty up. That's just the gameplay, though - the story stays a rollercoaster with some breaks in-between to recover.
Other than that I think the hardest parts are reading the text through your tears in the last ending...

I'm not really worried about difficulty so much as the intro being a single long action scream. 45 minutes straight of SHOOT SHOOT SHOOT OH GOD SHOOT KEEP SHOOTING SHOOOOT

About to start playing this.
Guys can you tell me if the DLC is worth getting before I begin? Does it add any meaningful story-related stuff or interesting quests or is it just the costumes and combat arenas with mobs you can fight in the base game anyway? Cause if it's the latter then I'll abstain.

It adds some interesting arena encounters, some of which are more interesting than in the base game, but narrative-wise you can ignore it as all it adds is another joke ending. Might a bit too expensive for most people too.
I can confirm that the game gets much better after the forced hour long intro of madness. It opens up and lets me set my own pace. Very much looking forward to the rest.
Also, never have I felt so weird so quickly about blowing up genocidal robots. Already this game has my intuitive interest.
