Nintendo Switch, the only console today making games which are games

Yeah, they didn't cede the handheld market, they merged it with their console market. If they were giving up on one it wouldn't have been the handheld market, their handheld systems routinely outsell the home consoles.

Ninendo's caginess on announcing that the Switch is also the successor to the 3DS has been somewhat strange when what the Switch is was something people guessed was coming when Nintendo announced 4 years before it's release that they were merging both their handheld and console divisions.

Nintendo made a good move, they don't compete with sony/MS, even they won't compete with ps5/xbone, they are doing their own thing.

I have a wii u on which I only played couch party games and pikmin 3, and I think I will give it away to a younger cousin since it just sits on a shelf collecting dust 364 days a year. Are there any exclusives codex would recommend me to play before I do so? I thought about playing Breath of the Wild, but it seems like it runs on horribur 20 fps on wii u so IDK

Fire Emblem: Three Houses. Not owning that game is a sin if you own a Switch. It's the best in the series and probably the best srpg I've ever played. I've put over 200 hours into it and I'll probably hit close to 300 before I'm done just because the infinite amount of customization makes for amazing replayability. I'll have done each route once and the Golden Deer route twice by the time I'm done with it. Other than that you might want to hold on to it for when Shin Megami Tensei V comes out.

Edit: Nevermind, I just realized you were talking about the Wii U. In that case toss it and then play the uncensored version of Tokyo Mirage Sessions on an emulator

^^I think party games and pikmin 3 are pretty much the only worthwhile wiiu games that used the wiiupad, the rest you're better off emulating. BOTW is very interesting in its opening hours, I'd give it a shot for half a dozen hours then drop it as soon as the veneer wears off.

A'ight.

I'm looking into possibly getting a Switch. I'm eyeing the Lite since I only want it for 3 games and I don't really give a fuck about docking, nor do I have spare HDMI ports for it atm. However, I've obviously read about the joycon drifting issue, which, from online impressions, seems to be a huge fucking issue affecting a large percentage of Switch owners. I'm obviously aware there's a distortion here, and that only unhappy people will complain etc etc, but how many of you here have had problems with drifting? Is it common in your experience?

Got the Dooms for a few bucks. They run great and the gameplay is good as always. Doom II momentarily scared me because it asked for a Bethesda login, but I just canceled and it let me through. The fact they're selling for like $2 or whatever is pretty nice, compared to all the 'retro' shit being sold for insane prices.

Getting pissed while playing botw and pushing too hard on one of my sticks caused it to drift. I tried to repair it myself but it's nearly impossible because all the screws strip when you try to take them out so I ended up eating the cost of the parts I bought and buying two new joycons. That was maybe 6 months ago. The only game I've really played since then is Fire Emblem and haven't had any trouble since. I'd say joycons aren't super fragile but they aren't particularly durable either.

If based in US and some other countries (Canada?), it appears Nintendo for the time being will replace/repair drifting joycons for free if you send them in.

There's no stats out there as to how prevalent it is of course. It is a thing, definitely.

I've got most mileage out of games like Slay the Spire as best suited for portable. Battle Brothers will be out on it in a few months.

Thanks man. It's very dissapoining that wii u didn't get more cool exclusives to utilize its controller capabilities. I remember having a blast with some wii exclusives, Red Steel 2, MadWorld, Zelda: The Twilight Princess and Batallion Wars were very fun games

Just imagine a Batallion Wars 3 with Wii U controls, where you could control your main unit with controller AND the rest of the squad with touchscreen map... :negative:

So how is Stwitcher 3 on that console? Anyone copped it?

I've held maybe 2 Swtiches in my life, of both friends who told me I should get one (most of the games seem pretty manchild tho) and both felt like cheap plastic about to fall apart within 5 minutes of button mashing.

Thinking about buying Lite, because I'm bored and I had decent amount of fun with NDS/3DS. Couple of questions:

1. Is the Fire Emblem game genuinely good? I typically hate jap "tactical" rpgs although the only FE game I've played for more than an hour was Awakening, which I found meh to shit.
2. How do ports of well-known PC/console games usually work/run on this? Dragon's Dogma or Dark Souls, for example?
3. The games that I played the most on DS by far were the Etrian rpgs. Are the rumors of a new part getting developed for Switch actually confirmed in any reliable way?
4. How is the Dragon Quest game?
5. General recommendations for someone who likes tactics/strategy/rpg, but is heavily allergic to animu subhumanity? I liked Etrian Odyssey, Strange Journey, Dark Spire.
5. Any nice, but less known/obvious games to recommend? Something like Ghost Trick, for example.

It's very long, like 8, but it's generally agreed to be in the top 3 entries. It's a very good game.

Mario Rabbids Kingdom Battle.

Enjoy the Revolution! Another revolution around the sun that is. Shadorwun: Hong Kong Divinity: Original Sin 2 Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire Pathfinder: Wrath I'm very into cock and ball torture I helped put crap in Monomyth

It's only a rumor, but part 6 of the series is likely to end up on Switch.

4. How is the Dragon Quest game?
If you're into the series, I strongly recommend it. I like the party members. There are ways to make the game more difficult, and the world feels a bit more diverse (locations) than Dragon Quest VIII.

5. General recommendations for someone who likes tactics/strategy/rpg, but is heavily allergic to animu subhumanity? I liked Etrian Odyssey, Strange Journey, Dark Spire.
Maybe try out Mercenaries Saga Chronicles, Mercenaries Wings: The False Phoenix. Fire Emblem is probably super animu. Haven't played it yet. It sits in my backlog. I'm waiting for SMT5 and Bravely Default 2.

I'm not sure. The 999 trilogy is a must. Ace Attorney games can be fun.

No. I was able to finish it once, but it started to drag pretty early on. I started a 2nd play through but got bored pretty much immediately. The gameplay and tactics are meh, the story, writing and characters are shit and the technical aspects of the game are really weak as well. There isn't much in this game for anyone unless you're a relentless waifufag.

3. The games that I played the most on DS by far were the Etrian rpgs. Are the rumors of a new part getting developed for Switch actually confirmed in any reliable way?
They already released a teaser trailer, but it never specified the console. Don't expect to see a release in a long time in any event. Atlus has never been able to readjust their development cycle to the modern era, which is why they've skipped the last two console gens pretty much entirely and instead focused on handheld devices, up until now. SMT5 should be coming out for the Switch as well, but who knows when, and what it will even look like by the time it does arrive.

5. Any nice, but less known/obvious games to recommend? Something like Ghost Trick, for example.
Romancing Saga 2 & 3 and Scarlet Grace are nice. They're on the PC as well, but having the handheld option is cool.

Super Mario 64, Sunshine, Galaxy remakes for Switch.

Galaxy is still recent and already looks gorgeous on dolphin and a new coat of paint isn't going to fix Sunshine, but an updated version of 64 would be stellar.

Sunshine still has amazing looking water. Big issue with it is 30fps cap, even in Dolphin. If they could remove that...
