Well, claims like "Players will be free to choose their path, but must then live with the consequences of their actions" seem to imply that they would be MEANINGFUL consequences. As in, world-changing. Never felt like that in any sandbox mmog tbh. Just saying, the Ultimas C&C DID affect the world. The UO choices didn't.

Actually the quests in Ultima single player games didn't have much if any C&C either, which is another reason to believe that you and Garriott aren't talking about the same thing here.

now this was ages ago so i might be wrong, but if i remember correctly, doing evil shit in some ultimas would even prevent you from finishing the game. and in some other, i remember npcs trying to steal your shit or kill you if you behave in some ways. but heh that was years and year ago, so i might be wrong.

You cannot get one of the words of power to open one dungeon in Ultima V if you have a low Karma.

So, should we expect the creation of a griefer's paradise by episode 3, pointless engine change by episode 4 and servers flooded by katana-wielding Sephiroth-clones by episode 7?

He quit Origin/EA around 2000, so most of those expansions had nothing to do with him. In one of the videos on the kickstarter update he gave the examples of ninja and elves as some of the things EA did that he thought shouldn't have been part of Ultima.

Congratulations! I have serious doubts that the project will live up to what I'd like to see (please Kickstart a single-player only Ultima-like!) but whatever happens it should be interesting and there is clearly some interest in this single-player/multi-player/MMO hybrid. Good luck!

I thought these guys didn't even need funding, didn't they have around 8 million from private investors, and LB like 20 million from a successful lawsuit? Ugh.

If this KS is successful than it all but guarantees that Garriott won't be making a single player game ever again. It's an MMO that he has at least 4 expansions planned for as of right now plus a constant small updates and micro transactions. It's going to be all about milking these UO fans over the next 5 years.

Death to LB, who has been overtaken by alien parasites when he went into space.

This is what he does when nobody is looking:

Yeah, this KS is not my cup of tea but I still wish him the best of luck. He provided years of entertainment in my youth and, though I think he is currently misguided (at least with respect to my tastes) I still wish him the best.
