The TES Forum Mods (a.k.a. the TE S.S.) are really, really, really, cracking down on info regarding the leaked Russian Beta version of the game. Which is a good thing. I don't want to be spoiled when Oblivion finally comes out (Holiday's '07) but at the same time I'm so tempted to get spoiled.

Sadly, it's popping up for download more and more Half-Life 2 all over again.

I haven't been looking for it mind you. I'm very anti-piracy being a programmer myself (albeit not a glamourous game programmer, strictly a GIS-to-Web mapping software programmer...which is as exciting as it sounds) I don't necessarily beleive it, but people keep posting about it on other forums (most notably the TES ones) and there is a site that I have seen that has screenshots from this alleged version (very crappy, jaggied screenshots mind you - that could be photoshopped or could be from a very, very early and almost unplayable version) I just don't know. My firm hope is that there is not such a thing - but it was also my firm hope that it didn't happen to Half-Life 2 - but it did.

On the plus side, the TES mods are killing those threads left and right which is exactly what they should be doing. Some person apparantly posted a link to it and was insta-banned and the post was deleted. (I saw the post in the topic list but by the time I clicked on it to flame the guy, the mods had deleted it WTG mod)

I've got my fingers crossed that it is NOT out there.

What russian leaked beta?. The preview was writed after playing a copy in the offices of the company that is making the russian localization of the game (i think it is 1C).

Hey, maybe now with some QA this game Bethesda might actually release a game with less bugs! I hope whoever they hire is a PC guy, and tells them to fix up the fucking inventory and shrink the fonts.

Baghdad Pete is a dumb fuck for sure, but he was probably getting his info verbatim for the press releases from the producers vis-a-vis time table, condition of game, etc.

The exec. producer is probably feeling most of the heat right now and if he's smart he'll shift the lion's share of the blame on QA for not finding all the bugs that (probably) caused them to fail M$ certification.

The QA lead & manager should definitely be fired if this is the case -- especially if they are hiring new Oblivion testers at this late stage in crunch time. That shows gross mismanagement and a failure to have adequate staff for what is arguably the most important title in the company's history.

That they failed to get certification (if this is the reason Take2 bumped the date) then this is highly significant in regards to their future.

Had they met the 360 launch deadline they could very well have been the next Bungie -- meaning a M$ acquisition and tons of $ for the execs on top of high sales of Oblivion 360.

But now that they've missed the launch window, not only will sales be lower, the chance of a M$ acquisition have probably diminished -- If they didn't have the talent to get this done then maybe they'd be a risky investment, and maybe the TES IP is getting played out, and maybe this means they won't be able to pull off Fallout.

The executives are no doubt well aware of all these things and heads will roll for sure.

Did you expect any different? Remember that Russian *illegal* coverage "they stole our gaem" response? That *illegal* video that was supposed to be for store managers & employees education (what a load of crap)? Lack of confirmation of things we already know like axed spears, mark & recall, etc?

I haven't seen such incompetence in a long, long while.
