The reason we dont hold back is because we enjoy bashing and making fun off too much to give a fuck about it ... if it was cancelled we would continue bashing and making fun of it until something else come along (NwN2).

I think the delay ends up being bad because they could get the "RPG of the Year" award from pretty much everyone since this year have been shitty, next year they go against Gothic 3 and NwN 2 that are more that capable of beating Oblivion, heck they could even gained the "Xbox GotY" award since Halo 3 is not comming out as a launch title and next year they will have Halo 3 along with other titles.

In the end it just shows the sad state of the industry that just rides on hype and on the PR department ...

Thats a good point, youd think it would have to be something fairly broken in the game to make them push it back at this stage, or its a lack of perfomance on the 360 and MS wont certify it. Although its all speculation.....

And why should I care what awards they get? I like their games, not their collection of medals, and as long as they have enough sales to make another game, I totally don't care what they win or not.

If they win all kinda Game of the Year awards / sell gazillions when there is no competition that would only reinforce their dumbing down "who cares about the content as long as everything is pretty" policy. If they would face some competition when the game is released, and lose some sales/awards they usually put on the box to get even more sales, then they may think twice about dumbing down.

His point wasnt that YOU should, but THEY might.
And my point was why should I care. So what was yours? :)

That we werent discussing your preferences, but were discussing their poor strategy :)

If what they are doing is putting quality over sales, than thats a good thing. If they knew all along, and wer just pulling some weird PR stunt, its bad. Most likely we will never know.

Judging by the Russian screens, they knew long time ago.

Still no MSFD.

I want answers!

The Take2 CEO insists the delay is because Bethesda needed more time. Is that really the reason?

What other reason could there be? What publisher would want to miss the best selling season of the year, especially considering that it would have guaranteed Oblivion numerious Game of the Year awards?

Missing the awards could be a potentially fatal blow to the pc sales of Oblivion. I'm not sure how much effect it would have on the 360 sales though, which is what they've been focused on from the beginning. Pc owners are the illegitimate bastard that Bethesa had before getting married to Microsoft. If the bastard dies, nobody really cares.

Awards are part of the marketing strategy ... a game with the "GAME OF THE YEAR" over the title is likely to sell more that one without.

Even review ratings now factor in advertisement, look at ads and if they get a review with 90+ they will put it on the ad.

The fact YOU dont bother with awards does not mean companies dont, BioWare did bother to put their premium modules in the RPG of the year competition since its part of the marketing strategy.

Oblivion loses without those "XBOX 360 GotY" tag along with "RPG of the Year" since that does generates sales, its unlikely a 2005 game winning against a 2006 game ... expecialy one that depends so much on graphic whoring and gimmik gameplay.

It is getting increasingly difficult to put the best construction on Bethsoft. Over the last year or two I've witnessed their persona morph from being a small, humble company that is truly grateful and RESPONSIVE to their fans, to one that is arrogant, evasive, and ridiculously aloof and guarded about meaningful information release. Where does the blame for this lay? Either the PR department (and meglamaniacal Pete Hines) or the Corporate execs.

What's my point? That it's sad to see this transformation.

Oh shit, that's right. There's a whole host of RPGs coming out next year. Gothic 3, The Witcher, NWN2...

Looks like Oblivion will be the disapointment of the year. :D Maybe this'll teach Bethesda not to fuck with their fanbase anymore. Maybe Howard and Rolsten will be fired. Oooh, the possibilities are endless!

But this is the "RPG gameplay over everything site" right? It's also the "we all (minus GBG and Tintin) think Oblivion will suck anyway" site, right? So why should anyone here care how much awards or money Bethesda makes? In fact the best possible scenario is a 2 year delay in which Bethesda remodels the game into a totally non-linear dialogue centered RPG with 55 skills and random quests, am I not right ;)

Something intelligent out of the mouth of ExMonk? Am I dreaming?
