Yea, in Morrowind there's like ten different organizations you can join. In Oblivion there's only four?

I sure hope that isn't the truth.

That was pointed more at the fact that they took so much time developing forests they forgot to add in more gameplay elements.

Then sadly they've got the priorities right from a business perspective - graphics over gameplay....

Thing is, everyone would be a lot less cynical about the quality of gameplay if they'd actually talked a bit about it. Not a single word about the dialogue or writing or choices, apart from the 'trust us it's cool', and the occasional jump in from MSFD over here saying 'yeah well you haven't played the game yet so you can't comment' whenever we're getting stuck into it.

This reminds me of HL2 release - Gabe "Liar, Liar" Newell was really tight-lipped (except occasional "beleive us, we're gonna finish it this autumn!") until the day after the release date. Only then they came up with the truth, that their game is at least year away from being ready.

Something tells me Q2 2006 for "O" sounds true enough. :)

For my fellow Schadenfreudians - and note the persistent need to somehow blame Take 2 for the delay, as they 'want more money'....

I will trade BOTH OF MY legs for oblivion right now!!! DAMMIT!

Damned freaking moronic GUAR! BETHESDA DIDNT DELAY IT jackasses! TAKE 2 Delayed it! DAMN THEM!

Flesh-rending rage! Damn you Take 2! I will feast on the entrails of each and everyone of your worthless employees! I've waited so long! Too long! Now it'll be longer! DIE! DIE!

Ok, where's MSFD? We all know he's seen this news post.

We want the low down! Or down low! Or whatever.

Perhaps he's now busy making a game. :D
Delay is good as long as they make the game not as retarded.

Ew... I wouldn't want to feast on anyone's entrails.

Of course, it's logical. Take 2 will make so much more money by not releasing Oblivion this winter. I mean, who the hell buys video games during the holidays? No one.

Hence my question of will they ever release a game on time. Mismanagement of time was also a reason for the absence of many features. They axe features (with a blunted axe, of course) for the Xbox360 launch, but they can't even make that! Point is: they suck at time management.
Has there even been a title that was released on the release date that was first announced?

No suprise this is, more time for a game is usually better unless you're working at GSC, 3D Realms or are called John Romero.

Todd Howard, mucking through the latest build, "Fuck... God damn it... Shit... ALRIGHT, STAFF MEETING NOW!!!"

Staff gathers. Todd says, "So..." Awkward 2 minute pause. "We made Fable 2, didn't we?" Everyone sort of looks around, not making eye contact with eachother, shuffling a bit, scratching heads, and finally nod sheepishly. Todd kicks a file cabinet, "SON OF A BITCH! What the fuck, guys? I mean... what. the. fuck!? 'Tell them it'll be cool,' Pete says, 'use words like epic and vast over and over.'" Awkward 2 minute pause. "MOTHERFUCKER!"

Awkward 10 minute pause. "GOD DAMMIT!"

...

Half hour later: "PETE! GET YOUR SORRY ASS ON THE PHONE AND TELL TAKE 2 WE'VE GOTTA COME UP WITH SOMETHING ELSE!"

I'll be glad to leave the release date speculation behind for a while.

I'm not. That means this damned forum will have fucking Oblivion threads four months longer than I was expecting.

RELEASE IT NOW!

From Gamespot:

Paul Eibeler, Take-Two's President and CEO, said that quality assurance was the reason for the delay. "We are moving the launch of Elder Scrolls IV to our 2nd quarter, based on the Bethesda Softworks requiring additional development time to ensure the title meets gamers' high expectations for this popular franchise," he said. The date change will also affect the PC version of the game, which was slated to ship simultaneously.

Link. Surely "gamers' high expectations" isn't a reference to any views expressed around here in recent months? On the other hand, it could be fun to blame the Codex for the delay, and start a rumour to that effect over at the TES forums.

Well, it will give them time to make the game better and introduce some of the features that the trusted community of TES fans is expecting.

BUAHAHAHA!

But seriously, it would be fun if someone decided to actually write some dialogue this time around.

(And yesterday I wrote "It seems we're 2 months away from playing Oblivion" :D)

In all seriousness, it can't be the best of situations for the people working on the game.

I hope it all goes smoothly for them and the game turns out really good, and does well. I'm looking forward to playing it, even if it doesn't turn out to be what I had hoped.

I wouldnt get your hopes up for any additions at this point if they're having trouble with current features. They dont strike me as "feature creep" type guys.

Missing the Christmas market isnt too smart in my humble estimation. No one can be happy about that.

Woohoo! Lets go out and buy Oblivion for Robert E. Lee / Martin Luther King/ Lincoln's Birthday / Elvis' Birthday!

Dont see too many parents saying that.

Maybe you have seen more screenshots than me, because y haven't seen any screenshot with dialogues from that preview. You have only seen screenshots with the subtitles for dialogues between npcs and the subtitles for the words npcs say to you before you enter the dialogue with they.

When you are in a dialogue you can see only the face of the npc, not all the body, and you will have the topics in the left of your screen when is your turn to talk.

I haven't seen any screenshots with dialogues between the player and the npcs, only from the E3 demo, and you can't judge the dialogues from that.

Well, it's obvious it isn't smart if you have a functionable game. The delay would seem to imply that right now there's something seriously wrong about the game.
I guess it also would be smart not to release the game until a certain time after Christmas has passed allowing the customer force to regenerate their money :). I hope the publisher doesn't become angry in January and orders the game to be published "as it is" resulting in ToEE II bug-wise.
