Regardless, overhauling systems so close to release is a definite sign of incompetence :)
This isn't that significant an overhaul. As Josh said on SA, he's not folding space here.
I'm sure Josh quotes are a great way to gauge his own incompetence.

Perfect balance is a fucking pointless and boring concept, the best kind of balance comes from giving each character a chance to shine in its selected field of expertise. and those fields are not fucking "DPS" "tanking" and "healing".

Competitive balance is an issue but those two specifics are hardly the same.

The issue with DPS is that it implies a world in which damage dealing is a drawn out race with carrots on sticks.

The issue with Tanking is that it implies a world of threat mechanics.

The issue with healing is the same as DPS, except on the verse.

Those are all specific issues with MMOs and the best encounters in WoW were those that fled from the conventions of boring steady DPS, Healing and, God willing, Tanking. In Dota, damage dealers are about opportunity and burst damage; 'tankers' are only hard to kill and healers fill more specific support roles of which healing is only a part. Its also unlike WoW where healing can't really save you from a barrage of attacks. And that is fine for a combatfag game.

Combat should be about fighting, not about dps. healing on the fly is the most tension breaking bullshit in new mmos design, its a cancer that should be removed. The instances where it actually feels risky are rare at best.
DPS is another bullshit oversimplification of an abstraction, it makes encounters uninteresting and predictible and it was born to help retarded people keep up.

Burst isn't even the same as dps.
Burst is short term dps increase. Its like saying green apples arent the same as apples.
So all short terms increases in overall damage imply a scenario in which steady damage per second matters?
