Everything Cain says sounds perfectly reasonable.

Edit: Except about Wizards being underpowered. That doesn't make any fucking sense...
he means the first few levels (at least that's what Obsidian has been saying since forever)

FeelTheRads: Uh... I think you misunderstand or something.

I was asked a question and I answered it.

Part of me wishes they had just said "IE homage isometric fantasy RPG" and left it at that and trust. I think they have over-updated and this endless picking it apart is the result.

I wonder if they will tally Paypal backer numbers (not money, people) into the mega dungeon as well. Might be the difference between an extra floor or not.

Wait. Bizarrely, that ain't me.

Now I'm curious. Try to think of something you may have said on the Codex once, or a big flamewar you were in. We can search for it.
Hmmm. I was 15-17 during the time I was hanging out around here. The big names were Rosh, SP, Killian, and Exitium (who was a noob news-poster then). Odin was cool too, but he was too moderate for everybody else and mainly just ran NMA. After I left, I think VD did all the newsposts by himself or something.

Ummm. SP and Rosh really started hating me over political topics, but... it was cool in those days to despise Fallout 2 and I loved it. Anyway, the biggest flame war I remember was over a poster who said he liked watching transvestite porn and insisted he was straight, lol.

I remember we'd fight a lot about whether it made sense for Fallout 2 to have things like neon signs and porn studios. They HATED New Reno and it was one of my favourite parts of the game. So we fought a lot about how they were generating power, or who would consume the porn and how they'd watch it, or who was bothering to gamble at all the casinos, etc. They also hated Chris Avellone's Fallout Bibles, which were just being produced for the first time, and they thought he was bullshitting and retconning basically all the good stuff from FO or trying too hard to bend that "trash" to suit Fallout 1 science -- i.e., ALL ghouls were created by FEV, not by radiation, etc. They thought the Elder's visions in Fallout 2 were stupid too, but I didn't really care about that.

They also HATED WITH A PASSION Fallout: Tactics. It was seriously the Antichrist to them. So there were flamewars about that too.

Basically they thought Fallout 2 was trash and we had a shit ton of fights about that, in which Rosh was very very mean and I was not nearly as mean, lol.

The biggest flame war I remember was over a poster who said he liked watching transvestite porn and wondered if that made him gay, lol.

Now that sounds like something that somebody here should remember. :smug:

VD is a dumb game designer, I dunno. Then, like everybody does here, he flipped out over my registration date like that means something. Yawn.
Like I can't determine that you're a moron without looking at your registration date.

damn, i've had to browse through 40 pages of those shitty kickstarter comments to find the source...

Hmm, the backers for Paypal would count towards the levels, wouldn't they since we are already using them to reach stretch goals?

@Voror Yes they will.

Also, fuck, easily the best memory I have of those days is the time that Chris Avellone had this back-and-forth with SP where he mocked Saint MERCILESSLY, like fucking Mike Tyson Knockout triple spin with a face-down into the ground, calling him "Clayton" all the time (possibly Saint's real first name?) and dropping other strange RL details. I wish we had archives of that because it was one of the funniest things I've ever read. I probably posted HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA 12 times in that thread.

That's me. SP's name is Clayton. Chris decided to use my real name, and I didn't want to edit his comments.

Hahahahahah, that's definitely several years after the event I remember, but that's hilarious shit right there.

I got a little irritated, since I don't cotton to that kind of slander about a respected member of the web community, so I kicked him right in his Kilzigs. Now, if he had presented a rational, well-constructed argument as to why Proverbius is an ass, I may have listened to it, but without a critical argument, no, I can't condone idiotic prattle like that.
"Killzig" being Killian, who ran DaC with some other guy who dropped off. Forget his name.

Some other big names in that thread, like Section8. He was involved in the game industry somehow... I think he was an artist or something.

Anyway, SP and crew used to wreck house on forums, and Chris Avellone was the best I've ever seen any developer at making fun of loud-ass critics. He's been doing that for about 10 years.

It's right up front in Update #15.

PayPal

First things first: our PayPal is now set up and ready to use! If you'd like to back the project using PayPal, you can do from the Project Eternity homepage at Obsidian:

http://eternity.obsidian.net/

Please note that pledges made through PayPal will not show up on our Kickstarter page, though we will count them toward stretch goals at the end of the campaign.

yeah, but why using nebulous quotes with lots of room for interpretation when there're definite ones. i knew that feargus said something about this and just had to find it.

Looks like I missed all the fun. :(

They seem to not want to 'penalise' you later for using up spells/resources in one encounter, which is a bit disappointing. Cain ignored the bit about overall resource management in my question, instead focusing on the per-battle part.
The rest of the answers seem mostly solid to me though. Although the bit about grappling slimes is a bit :retarded:

This really just proves they can't win though. If AoO & flanking aren't in, it's 'lack of tactical depth'. If they are it's 'clusterfuck combat'.
If you can't create your own party it's 'storyfag party mode'. If you can it's 'drone npc followers'.

That's not surprising. It's obvious that they're still deliberating over that part. They haven't decided yet how punishing it should be. Maybe they want to make the game first and then playtest/tweak the "attrition" aspect.
