Come on man, that shit is not concept art, you and I know that is pretty much exactly how they are gonna look/be portrayed in the final game, they've even done wallpapers and shit.

WTF? The game is going to be top-down. Did Imoen's sprite look like her portrait in BG? o_O

What I mean is, these pieces of "concept" art don't just show how the character looks, they portray personality, demeanor, character. The whole idea of them is to capture those things in a piece of art work so that by looking at it you understand the character and what kind of role they might play right away.

In both an artistic and characterization sense, the character art so far has been...pretty fucking mundane. I look at those characters and I really don't give a shit about them or what their back story might be. Do you?

I don't feel that way about any character art. Guess what, the MotB characters' art would have looked equally banal-shit-boring. OH LOOK A BALD WIZARD CHICK AND A WHITE HAIRED PRETTY BOY.

You don't feel that way about ANY art? I find that hard to believe. Ignoring great pieces of actual art throughout history, just looking at say, the IWD2 portraits, aren't you FAR more interested in knowing what kinds of characters could be developed out of those portraits? I know I am.

Okay okay, since you mentioned NWN2, just for you I found something special

Cynic Those are concept arts, not portraits about the characters. That is a fact.

:what:You really are thinking about this when you choose a portrait in IWD2? For me, it is just a picture, which shows how the character looks generally. I'm not imagining some backstory behind it. That is what dialogue for.

Should've just given 'em bastards a link on the whole softcore erotic gallery with that lass and her loveable ranger Bishop. It's like an epitome of fangirl art... and an insight on how to make girls buy your CRPG :?

...if an artist is a girl of course. I never bothered to check. :M

The portraits are definitely something I factor in when say, picking one for my character. For example let's say you make a half orc fighter, you aren't going to pick the picture of a short halfling woman cleric now are you? Right there you are characterizing through the character portrait. Don't you think even a little bit about who that character is? When you name them? Give them an alignment etc.,?

These character portraits have names and personalities already. I can ALREADY PREDICT pretty much the exact characters. I mean it's pretty fucking obvious isn't it? Aloth is the dark brooding one, Edair is the stalwart, Cadegund (or whatever) is the dyke with a chip on her shoulder but a heart of gold. FFS come on.

I found that shit randomly when Infiltron mentioned NWN2 concept art. It scarred me, but I needed to share my pain with Codex.

I agree that the art is pretty generic, but you can't hire a great artist with a small budget, and somehow I think that PE will focus its budget to other things. Too bad Leo Boyarsky has a job at Blizzard.

I was watching the KS and we're waiting for the backers to reach 55000 to have a 4rth megadungeon level. Bah, I really hate that stuff. And even 4 levels are too few for a goddamn megadungeon. The should have gone with my proposal about a megadungeon with 99 random generated levels.

I made two fake accounts on FB to "like" the project and asked couple of bros to "like". I want that dungeon big.

Make fake KickStarter accounts and donate $1 each, $2500 for an additional dungeon level, now that would be an effort worthy for the Codex funds, not a merry gay adventuring party.

Of course I look at the portrait when I choose one for my character, and I won't choose a halfling for my half-orc fighter. But if the portrait is not the best, it is not a big deal to me. We roleplay differently, that's all.

J_C the point was that these can't really be considered "concept" art when it's quite obvious that these are already developed characters. Perhaps I'm wrong and they'll change them completely (like the name of the game) but I doubt it.

It's a shame that Justin Cherry doesn't work at Obsidian any more, because I'd really would have liked to see what he could have done with a new fresh setting. From what I've heard about the game so far it seems very unimaginative, considering this is Obsidian free from the shackles of both distributors and an existing setting, so maybe the blandness in the art isn't entirely the artists fault.

No Cynic. You do understand what concept art is - art that reflect the concept that is going to be developed. I don't get where do you get that what we see is definite or that it will be used in the final product.

Here is some concept art from BG1-2:

380962-art_01.jpg

380970-art_05.jpg

380986-art_17.jpg

bg2_01.jpg

bg2_02.jpg

bg2_halforc.jpg

As you can see concept art varies in detail, depending on the stage of development. You cannot really say, however, that the pieces Obsidian presented us with are definite, because they haven't even started the project yet. Sure they are more detailed than usual initial drawings, but then again they had to bring *something* to the table to pitch for money. Fairly competently drawn concept art is the very minimum they could do. This doesn't mean they have all characters ready or their assetts for that matter.

Besides I rather like these concept pieces. :troll:

No. And let me show you why:

That's why only brain-dead fucktards with no basic understanding of usability will use radial menus in their programs while normal people will use regular menus.

Holy fucking shit. I can totally see how that radial menu is better than a drop down. :retarded:
