Just a fun fact, the great and horrible beast the codex, opened a single eye for only the second time in history, and it seems it was mostly pleased with the 2.8M stretch goal. ;)

Jaesun "Mostly Pleased" is like an 11 on a scale of 1 to 10 for the codex. :)

I noticed that he pronounced inXile as "in exile". Have to wonder if that was intentional. I'm a backer now. At a tier dictated by my religion. But a backer nonetheless.

That is the correct pronunciation.

I would also love to see more games that are based on real-world historical periods, apart from the European Middle Ages. Central and Eastern Europe in the 16th to 18th Centuries were full of interesting conflicts, not to mention superstitions and mythologies, that could inspire both narrative and gameplay. I also think a game set in the Ottoman Empire of the 18th or 19th Century (think: the setting of James Goodwin‘s Yashim the Detective novels) or during the French Revolution could be a lot of fun, but there are tons of other historical settings that could be equally compelling.
...
Another setting that I think is underused is “real” science fiction. Most scifi games are actually space fantasy, like Star Wars. Mass Effect pays lip service to some actual or predicted technologies, and it includes Earth, but it still feels like a collection of space fantasy tropes. I’d like to see a game that projected technological trends two or three hundred years into the future and based its gameplay and narrative around what *could* really happen.

My god, Ziets actually said this? :salute: Fuck me, I'm upping my pledge. He's one of us, guys.
He has a very informative formspring.

This.
I would so much love to see crpgs inspired by p&p settings like Ars Magica or Eclipse Phase, instead of that old D&D stuff old the time. That goes for mechanics as well as for lore & background, by the way.
Still, bringing this guy in can only be good news for PE ! Too bad they're making him do high fantasy... again.

I can imagine that Obsidian will carry on making mainstream RPGs like South Park because they'll get publisher funding. I just hope they will carry on using Kickstarter for proper RPGs. I'm worried that by the time the next project comes along, people just won't be interested in donating any more.

Could you also hit "Like" at Obsidian facebook for another dungeon tier if it's not shabbat for you?

The Koran or some shit like that dictates that I must not join a book with a face. Nothing with a face. That is our way.

How about replacing Sawyer with George Ziets as lead designer ?

That's how much I like your design decisions Josh, I would pay money to keep you away from the project.:smug:

It is funny how they are placing Josh with these game design gods. He must feel kind of intimidated by it.

No no no, Ziets is a writer not a systems designer. Ziets should serve as creative lead.

Also, good decision to reserve paladins for the higher stretch goals.

I mean - playing a "holier than thou" faggot - the bioware retards will rush to your trough like pigs.

I'm betting that the game won't look half as good¹ as Chaos Chronicles does at its current stage (edit: or as good as TOEE). In fact, it will most likely look like utter crap. I know; early stage and everything but hey: you get measured on what you show. If they feel confident enough about showing a screenshot this early, it better be good. And after all, Chaos Chronicles is also WIP.

In fact, I am so certain of this, I promise self-sacrifice to become a an hero martyr

if the screenshot turns out to be as good or at least as promising². But since that won't happen, here's what I predict: a shitty 2D background that looks like vomit in colourful kiddy fantasy style with 3D characters sticking out like sore thumbs.

²: by my own standards :troll:
¹: in before Jaesun makes butthurt comparisons to the WL2 screenshot :smug:

George Ziets, Paladins (and not the mediocre healer, mediocre tank variety either thank fuck) and non-musical Bards. P. good update. Very close to upping my pledge.

If what they mean by "stringing together magical effects for prolonged periods" means something along the lines of "prepare spell-chains in advance and unleash them" that could lead to seriously interesting gameplay as you attempt to anticipate the needs of the coming encounter and shit goes badly when you chain 3x Ice Blast against the White Dragon diving at you!

Would be cool to see something like that.

That would be about the most fucking cool thing to do with magic in any CRPG.

And that is why it won't happen. Obsidian doesn't seem to be into tactical preparations like that, what with Sawyer wanting to turn mages into spammers of spells.
