Obsidian are as good at planning tabletop games in advance as they are doing the same for Kickstarter campaigns.

Hey, it was entirely possible in BG1 to grind away the first few levels quickly, plus if you cleared every zone, you hit lvl-cap in Candlekeep dungeons. Those little rivulets of monster XP do add up. And then you get into a habit of killing everything everywhere since XP is PRECIOUS. It wasn't as bad in IWD or PST because they were more linear and/or did not have random side zones to clear.

In Baldur's Gate when I was younger I'd just grind Ankheg's until max level. You can kill them easily once you're level 3 as a wizard.

Edit: that was on like the fifth time through though, just to go through it faster.

But if you have the choice of doing a quest for 500 xp or killing stuff for 5 xp piece then you are just ineffective and possibly wasting time. When it should even be questioned you could find those 100 cribs to kill to get that 500 xp.
