Like I said, because of the post-Kickstarter costs such as the 5% to Amazon and Kickstarter each, along with the cost of rewards and pledges that failed to get through (let's say another 10%), the net budget isn't going to be much more than $3 million. I'm really just hoping they make another $150k in the next seven hours so that the game has some extra funding in case they need it.

i dunno about u.s. law but ain't the pledges regular income for obsidian? so they also have to pay taxes for the whole sum, right?
No one's ever given a clear answer to this, but I'm pretty sure the answer is 'yes'. Tax law in the US is horrendously complicated though, particularly for businesses, so it's hard to say for sure.

They stated in the Kickstarter comments, near the beginning, that they will be contacting a tax consultant on how to set up the funds so that they are counted as spread out over the entire development cycle instead of a lump sum at the start. At least, I think Feargus said something like that.

btw you noticed the u.s. only amd loot bag? wonder what this will be - locally restricted tiers could kill the momentum instantly :D

yeah, but taxes will lower the budget nonetheless.

Going outside for a few hours has left me utterly outside the loop. Someone care to explain to me why the chief Obsidian Ordernite jumped ship at the last minute? Lack of romance options kill it for him?

I read that some Dlux guy threw a hissy fit over the "no xp for kills" idea so he took his plushy and went home.

Insert Title Here RPG Wokedex Codex Year of the Donut I'm very into cock and ball torture
They said they don't know yet and are discussing it. And I believe it. I am sure they expected a ton more than $1.1 million but they sure as heck didn't expect to meet $3.5.

Seems like they don't really want to have another stretch goal. Perhaps it's for the best.

The tax is not payed from this KS fund necessarily. It is possible that the tax is counted after the sum of every income they have in a year, and it is payed later from the companies budget.

fify

Seems like the vocal crazies want PE to change from a game inspired by IE games to just copying everything including fucking Minsc and Boo. Can't have Stamina and health, can't have a non vancian system, must have romances.

Sounds like they won't. Sensible, although it could make the final hours feel like a bit of an anti-climax if punters don't have anything palpable to donate towards.

This morning the team is discussing what to do with those remaining eight hours or so. They don't really want to add more to the already enormous game, so Urquhart says he thinks they'll instead invest any more money donated into polish.
"That was the last stretch goal," he said. "It's almost that the game has gotten to be the size it needs to be. Now we just need to fill it out even more."

If you see stretch goals as a way to increase pledges, and keep the momentum, I'd rather have an unrealistic or gimmicky stretch goal rather than nothing at all.
