Wasn't there supposed to be an update yesterday, or even on Tuesday? Obsidian! :x

No. They took two weeks off to work on the second prototype. Read the last update.

Nobody's promised that the prototype will come out next week. They're taking a break from updates to work on it, but that doesn't mean it'll be done.

Would be pretty stupid of them to do another Fantasy setting game. Would like to see them possibly try a Cuberpunk or Sci-Fi setting.

So, anyone taking bets on the next project Obsidian will take to kickstarter?

(Tim Cain RPG plox????)

We don't know whether they even plan to do such a thing until Project Eternity is released. Unlike inXile, Obsidian can find other tasks for its designers after pre-production is complete.

I would say that it might depend on the reception of Wasteland 2. If the game is a big hit, that would be motivation for Obsidian to hop on the Kickstarter bandwagon again.

In all seriousness, I think Obsidian will wait to see how well P:E does. Unlike InXile, they aren't riding the crowd-funding wagon on principle. So if P:E grows into its own, they'll try to fund the future themselves. So one possibility is that they Kickstarted not just a game, but their own independence.

Arcanum Spiritual Sequel. With combat fixed. Turn Based Mode ONLY.
I would prefer no spiritual sequel. Just make Tim Cain project lead and leave it at that. If he comes with the next Fallout great. But the whole spiritual sequel of this and that has become silly.

The best for Obsidian is to kickstart a new IP, and use P:E profits to make P:E sequel on their own.

Securing a next-gen title would be much more important to Obsidian than to think about the next Kickstarter.

In the sort run, yes. But kickstarted games belong to Obsidian. P:E will make too much money for Feargus compaired to let's say New Vegas. So it makes sense to return to it.
And if they have P:E and one or two other kickstarted IPs to genarate money they will become trully indipendent. They could still work with publisers, but they would not have the pressure to have two contracts at all times.

And Feargus will have the money to make his own New Vegas successor, Action Skyrim-killer game :troll:

Why not? Kickstarter is free money. They could continue P:E francise on their own if it is succesfull, and use kickstarter to make new IPs free of risk. The same reason Fargo said that he will continue to use kickstarter.

Why not kickstart PE2 and use the PE money for the new IP?

Why even make a new IP, why not just focus on making the the best PE2?

Why not make PE2 and PE:spinoff?

Odds are that they are going to continue the PE IP itself for a while. It's possible that they will make a second IP though, in that case it should be something Sci-fi.

Why would they stop using kickstarter? As long as people are willing to give them money before production, it would be stupid not to get it...
They will be judged on the quality of their first kickstartered games during their next campaign. Their games will be evaluated harshly as they promised the earth and they won't be able to hide behind the everlasting excuse "it's the investors' fault!". If they succeed, people will still believe in them and will be willing to give them money again, maybe more. Why wouldn't they? As long as they have the trust of their players, they should use kickstarter whenever they need extra money. I mean, everyone wins: they get more money if their games sell, they take no financial risks, they have more freedom and we are playing the games we want. It's really a virtuous circle (if they deliver). They just have to keep in mind that they expose themselves to a backlash of a new magnitude if they don't meet people's standards. Nothing short of excellence will do. If they fail, they're finished.
