Avellone is a co-owner of the company, so his words do hold a sort of sway on the direction the company should/wants to take.

But it's also a lot of extra work. They've bitched about the amount of work that a successful KS pitch requires often enough. Also, why would they need a new IP when they have PE? They most likely are already making something for a publisher (in addition to PE and South Park) - I'm pretty sure both Avellone and Feargus have stated that they want to maintain that side of business as well, because Obsidian is too big to survive on KS alone.

I know they can't rely entirely on Kickstarter, but they'd be daft not to develop as many IPs as they can. I could easily consume two or three Obsidian RPGs a year.

Don't talk like that in public, you know what that does to me!

For me personally, itemization is probably top 3 of priorities and BG2 has my favourite itemization of any game. I can't wait to see some examples of P:E weapons. I really hope he's able to differantiate each unique weapon to a large degree without them just having different enchantment boni or something :)

Combat-focused game!

Seriously, 50+ unique weapons versus how many "unique" companions? Six... eight?
BG1 had something like 20 unique companions, but how many unique weapons? If you dicount weapon type and weapon type+1/2/3, it goes down REALLY fast.

BG1 had 20 unique companions because companions were basically just different stat blocks, some with (very) minor sidequests attached.

I don't think this game will be as massive as BG, so all this combat centric content will have a greater density in PE. Also, I prefer the unique items from Icewind Dale, which is what Sawyer's post reminded me of.

Ah, i thought you were saying that 50 unique weapons was too low. My excuses.

It will be interesting to see how many types of weapons are actually really good in this game. The strength of Unique / magical weapons pretty much defines which weapon groups everyone used in the IE games, but who knows perhaps the differences in the design here will lead to something different.

In content density, yes. Not amount.

So far we have Prototype stuff which is 1 village, a few wilderness areas and some dungeons; The Stronghold area (unfinished, and also possible the same worldmap location as the Endless paths) and Defiance Bay which will be 5 or 6 districts.

The first enviro screenshot is the exterior to the animat factory.

They've got probably another 6-7 months of environment art creation left before area creation halts I'd say. All depends how many external areas Hector can do in that time.

That's what we've seen or/and heard about. Remember we're not entirly in the know and always (for obvious reasons) a bit behind.

But what about proud tradition of dildo-weapons every modern respectful company strives to uphold? How could he go against the future and the progress?

So you guys think the two promised "big big cities" (like Baldur's Gate or Athkatla) won't actually be that big content-wise or that all other content will be reduced to make up for them? I still want to believe that Obsidian can pull it off with their budget.
