Pretty much what Jaedar said.

But I have to correct my earlier suggestion of taking the chaos and directly applying them. Considering the softcore exchange rates, if you trade the (or original exalt) chaos for alchs and scourings, you can actually turn 1ex=170chaos into around 350 scourings + 350 alchs, giving you 350 attempts to make a decent rare out of a base item. By the same token in hardcore you can get a bit over 200 alchs and 200 scourings for 1 exalt.

So trading for alchs+scourings gives you a ton more attempts at rerolling rare properties than using chaos directly.

Did you figure in the price of a new mouse when the key breaks?

Just on go on poe.trade. You can find claws like that easy.

https://www.pathofexile.com/trade/ is actually better nowadays, poe.trade is kind of outdated. The currency-site is so outdated it doesn't even have all currency items as options anymore.
I'll have to disagree there. poe.trade works fine, so it's just a matter of preference. The currency site is outdated because no one ever really used that. In fact, you get better trades using the main poe.trade site for currency exchange than its currency trading spinoff, but for the most part currency trades are easy enough to obtain just by asking in chat, so the only thing you care about is the exchange rate.

There's a crafting mod that lets you add multiple crafted modifiers. They're not as good as RNG mods but they'll do. Advanced crafting usually adds a random mod while using methods to guarantee that only a single mod or limited pool of mods can be rolled.

Also, see: https://www.poewiki.net/wiki/Guide:Crafting

noob: how i craft life on my 3L chest senpai

absinthe: throw 2ex at a multi mod and read the wiki, scumbag
He asked. I answered. There is a reason why a lot of people don't bother though.

The classic easy way to craft something is to just chaos (or alch+scour) the shit out of it until you get good properties. You may want to slap a "cannot roll caster modifers" or similar onto it before hitting chaos tons of times. But it's usually cheaper to just buy a decent rare than keep rolling for it. Most of the advanced crafting stuff is done only for extreme gear or SSF. HC's crafting community is a bit better because the economy isn't flooded with max clear speed builds destroying exchange rates and giant amounts of players putting almost every rare you'd want on the market for cheap.

There is some basic vendor recipe crafting that is done often enough though, like making perfect roll resistance rings, movement speed magic boots, and weapons that give flat spell damage while leveling.

It's really a matter of preference for the most part.
No. One is inferior to the other.
If you're going to say that, then explain why.

As for asking in chat, maybe the softcore chat is an insane shitshow
And where is the new guy playing? Hint: it's not HC Trade.
That's fair.

People definitely still craft like that in SSF.
No they don't. Watch any SSFHC or SSF streamer for 20 minutes and you'll see that only the flat spell damage craft is ever used during leveling. Movement speed boots craft requires a Quicksilver flask just to get it started at 10ms. You're much better off simply using 2 Quicksilvers until you hit maps and identifying all rare boots on your way. The likelihood of you simply dropping a 10/15/20ms boot is much much higher than finding a third/fourth/fifth Quicksilver during campaign.
Oh boy, the Twitch streamers you watch don't do it so obviously no one should ever do it. Case closed, I guess. Look, you can just check vendors for quicksilvers, or just roll a new character and run for another quicksilver quick. It's really easy to get extra quicksilvers on demand. Trying to loot them is the dumbest fucking way to go about it. You loot them because free extra quicksilvers is handy (assuming you don't have better shit to loot and you're not already sitting on enough quicksilvers, obviously). You don't loot them because that's the way to obtain them if you need an extra quicksilver.

All endgame rares come from Harvest crafting.
We weren't talking about endgame rares but sure. Harvest crafting is great for making super items. And on that note, may as well link: https://www.poewiki.net/wiki/Harvest_crafting

People don't even want triple res jewelry anymore. People want "curse on hit" rings, reduced effect of curses, life gained on spell hit. They want +1 gems amulets with dot multi on them. I have like 6000h+ in SSF now and I have never used these vendor recipes unless they were part of a challenge requirement, except the flat spell damage on wands one.
That's meta shit. Just because the meta is leaning in one direction doesn't mean you have to do that in order to be competitive. This is what your brain on Twitch does to you. You just end up bandwagoning whatever shit you see others do because it works and assume it's the one true way or something.

And perfect roll resist rings are also pretty handy while leveling.

And the movement speed boots recipe is fairly popular, last I checked.
Where did you check?
This is getting ridiculous. Hardcore chat, mostly. I also remember when the recipe came out a lot of people liked it.

Pretty much what Jaedar said.

If your mouse breaks that easily from clicking a lot, you needed a better mouse anyway. But if you can, you may want to try macroing it.

They don't get perfect results, but they do get pretty good ones. I have known top players in HC who did this back when the exchange rate of chaos to exalts was like 30:1. Now you can get 200-300+ attempts doing alch+scour for 1 exalt. Sure, it's not as easy to roll a top item anymore, but you do have a shitton more attempts to get some very good items. It wasn't popular even back then and it isn't popular now, but that doesn't mean it doesn't work.

The Twitch streamers for PoE are also the best players. Take anyone who finished the Uber Boss Race Event held by GGG for this League and you'll see that none of them use those vendor recipes.

Vendors don't sell Quicksilvers.

Trying to loot them is the dumbest fucking way to go about it.
Aside from the 2 you can get through quests during the campaign, which you should use directly instead of wasting them on a pair of magic boots, dropping one is the only way in a League start scenario. This is the only scenario where you would ever need this recipe too, since as soon as your second character or even 2 days into the league a pair of Wanderlust should be all you ever equip until maps.

That's meta shit.
Wrong.

Reduced Curse effect is useful for everybody. Assassin's Mark on Hit is mandatory for every crit build. Life gained on spell hit is extremely useful for any build that utilizes fast hitting spells like Blade Fall. Despair on Hit is extremely useful for any chaos build. Warlord's Mark is extremely useful for any rage build. Are you telling me all of these are part of the current meta and once balance changes roll in, everybody will be playing builds that want perfect tri-res rings again?

And perfect roll resist rings are also pretty handy while leveling.
You're getting rings with 3xT1 resist rolls while leveling? Which recipe are you even talking about? The 5-to-1 magic or rare that gives you another rare just to reroll the implicit while leveling? You get Purity of Elements at lvl28. Min-maxing implicits on shitty leveling rings should never be a priority to anyone.

This is getting ridiculous. Hardcore chat, mostly.
No further questions, Your Honour.

hey don't get perfect results, but they do get pretty good ones. I have known top players in HC who did this back when the exchange rate of chaos to exalts was like 30:1.
This was indeed a thing some people used to do. Years ago. Before Harvest existed.

In conclusion, I think your retarded aversion to Twitch made you miss out on a lot of development in the overall game, community and personal skill. IMO either get with the times, grandpa or just stop giving out advice. All of your takes and infos are outdated as fuck.

What is this about easily crafting rings with 3x T1 resist rolls?

I think it is worth keeping mind that the things that are correct to do for people who can beat the campaign in 4 hours on a new league are not going to be the things that are correct for someone who is still a beginner.

(I also don't think movement speed boots recipe is very useful)

tbh I'd rather just buy an item on trade than waste time spamming chaos or alchs/scouring.

You're almost certain to get something better than chaos spamming at a much cheaper price.

Neither the streamers nor me nor anyone (non-retarded) is asking new players to push sub 4 hours campaign. The current fastest speed-runner Tytykiller routinely tells people to take the game at their own pace, play the skill they are most comfortable with and not to "sweat it". Yes, a new player shouldn't try to "vendor walk", because without any practice the attempt will slow you down and whenever you ask the top players about it, they'll tell you to focus on it last.

However if one does actually wants to improve, watching them is the absolute correct path. You're never going to hurt yourself by watching top players, unless you're watching a turd like Path of Matth or some non-english speaking streamer (maybe they are good, but I doubt it and I can't vouch for any of them).

Oh dear

I thought about going back to some good hack'n'slash action after 2-3 years of a break, but seeing the builds on various sites, it seems the rigidness of the builds gets worse with every league I play. Like, all Raider builds on poe.ninja are using the same skill, and every goddamn build I find includes some extreme yet seemingly bog-standard mechanics, skill links, and gear choices. Is there really so little variety in the game atm?

I'm a very casual, SSF player and usually lose interest on low-tier maps, but from the comments I read, I gather that even my ultra-generic shock nova Elementalist will hit the wall before real meat comes into play. Or am I wrong? How casual-friends is the game right now, if one assumes that my character doesn't need to melt some tier 50 uber uber bosses?

For campaign I think any skill can be valid (except for ones clearly not meant for it, like siphoning trap). Making progress in maps within a human lifespan requires builds with pretty fast clear, and maps scale in difficulty very fast as well. There's also a bajillion mechanics to keep track of, thousands of mod types (some of which are insanely good), but most of it happens only in maps.

I think poe.ninja sorts builds by how much xp they got and how quickly, so that's probably why? There's a lot of endgame viable builds to find if you look around, but I don't know any decent index sites.

Raider is pretty pidgeonholed, as it's the ascendency for "elemental damage attack skills that use evasion for defence", so you're only going to see ele attack builds for it.

Summoners are usually one of the more faceroll options for a beginner. They generally require very little early investment as most of the summon stats comes from passives and gem levels.

End game is a bit of a different matter as the gear investment requirement usually gets quite high for summoners.

For a game that boasts 100+ active skills, I expect more playstyles to be viable choices. Especially since it's a hack'n'slash RPG, I want to slaughter hordes of monsters by myself, not to watch my minions do it for me. I had similar issue with everyone on net recommending trap-based builds for beginners a few years back: they are fine, but those are not what I expect from the genre in a first place.

but I don't know any decent index sites

I checked most of the popular ones that can be found via search engine, and there's a dearth of more staple builds. Hell, it's easier to find a cyclone witch than nova witch those days, which just tells me how messy the game mechanics have become.

No. One is inferior to the other.

There are a couple of reasons that the official site is better than poe trade, but the most obvious one is that the official site is better at identifying modifiers and thus if you want to search for an item with a specific set of modifiers, or you want to search for an item with a certain number of open modifiers, you will have an easier time with the official site. Say for example, you search for a chest with 700 es. On the official site, you will get a result that looks like this:

J2ze6AL.png

On PoE trade. you will see this:
gayCtGg.png

Note, in the first picture, you can see an exact breakdown of what modifiers are on the item. It is obvious at a glance what combination of prefixes and suffixes are on the item and thus if you are wanting to craft an item further, what changes you can make. This is not true of the second picture. This is something that PoE trade will never do, so no amount of time is going to fix this difference. There are other differences however, for example, PoE trade has not yet implemented the new influence types (searing exarch and eater of worlds). Furthermore, the bulk item exchange on the official site is much more developed. There are also some nice browser extensions for the official site as well, like Better PoE Trading, which has convenience features like being able to save search strings which are particularly useful on the side to easily access later, or compress identical search results into a single result.
eihtwz6.png

Obviously, you could make addons like that for PoE trade, but they already exist on the official site and using something that already exists takes less work than making something fresh.

I expect you could just take Enki's arc witch (or whatever lightning spell Enki recommends these days) and run shock nova instead. It's not going to be as good obviously, but you could probably start there. Shock/Frost nova are not great skills, so you're not going to see a lot of builds for them because anyone who cares enough to optimize out a build is going to use better skills.

Then you don't have to concern yourself with what you see on poe.ninja. As long as you know how to link skills and use them, you'll be able to clear the campaign just fine. Shock Nova is probably on the weaker side, but should still be doable. A league ago there was a big buff to most self cast spells in the game. You can always pivot to Spark, if it becomes too difficult.

That's a stretch. Just because 1 (one) singular skill you favour isn't the current meta, doesn't mean that all of the game mechanics are now "messy". poe.ninja only indexes characters above a certain level threshold. Maybe there are thousands of players like you, who only ever want to play up to white maps with a non-meta skill. People like you never show up on the graphs, because you never reach the level threshold.

On the other side of things, people who do show up on the ladders are very motivated by results and seek the most effective way of achieving said results. It's the nature of the world and PoE is no different in that regard.

If you want a better representation of off-meta builds, look no further than Mathil:

You know, let's make an experiment out of myself. While I am by no means a newbie (I've played a few leagues in the past, last one was Metamorphosis one, I think?), the last time I dared to brave the game without a preselected build was... well, there were only three acts back then, so it was basically an Ancient Era of PoE, before all the bloat.

I'll try to build character on my own, going in almost blind. So far I've only played various witches or cyclone marauders/duelists, so I'll go with Ranger this time, for some variety. I'll try to build a viable bow wielder that can quickly massacre large swathes of foes while being a bit of glass cannon - just like I like'em. No idea which skill I'll pick as a main, since I never played similar character, but I'll be judging them based purely on fun factor. No trading. Let's see when do I hit the wall.

Okay, so, after 3 chapters (lv ~38) I think I finally found a skill that feels right - Tornado Shot, when supported with the volley gem, makes for a beautiful AoE massacre, just like I like it. So far, I feel no difference compared to preplanned builds, though admittedly, it might be still way too early.

My passive tree so far: https://www.pathofexile.com/passive...v67UIun-7476nxKLTft0N45_qYu969Pj2o_66_sgAAA==
I have the next 5-6 steps planned, but after that, I have no idea how my char will develop. Probably towards more life-increasing nodes.

Other impressions: I don't know if devs increased the drop rates over the last few years, or maybe it's the Stalker league, but compared to my previous characters, this one feels like it's drowning with currency and uniques. I already got 12 of the latter, while, i.e. my highest-leveled character so far (lv 80 during Essence League) found only 7.

The league mechanic right now is pretty loot explosionish. I didn't play this league for very long, but I was surprised how much currency I ended up with by the end of the campaign.

I had the opposite experience, wound up with way less currency than usual, but I did also forget to activate it a lot (also it frequently made rares annoyingly tanky).

A lot of uniques are really common, as in "you can easily find more than one in the same map".

week 3 is over and I was pretty lazy overall. Unlocked all favourite map slots except the Feared one. UElder down, but I'm not even using the 4th watchstone at the moment. Did a couple more challenges, now at 15/40. Mostly farming for my quad tab of Crimson Temples right now.

Rog gave me a base to work on. Maybe I shouldn't waste my Exalts on it, but I haven't played a bow build in a long while.

A lot of streamers seemed to be afraid the mechanic would be tedious to manage, but then flipped on a dime on release going "ok, this is actually really easy to manage." Which I found odd because I found it a total hassle to remember to activate them, swap them out, re-roll them etc. Other mechanics you sort of stumble upon and that reminds you "oh right, gotta do this thing." Even metamorph spawns after the boss.

I forget to activate mine from time to time, but it's not a big deal because the next map is 30 seconds away by that point. It mostly happens in random maps, when I'm doing some Guardian or some Kirac mission. The 2x2 size is also an issue. I just wish they would drop already identified, since they are unmodifiable anyway. If I didn't have 5 quad tabs to spare just to mass sort them, I would definitely mald more about the hassle.

That said the blue one is very satisfying to both use and loot. If they end up keeping one, I hope it'll be the blue one. I'm doing the yellow one for the challenge at the moment and it's so much worse compared to the other two. It's not helped by the fact that you can't really spec into the yellow one properly without giving up many of the very good reward passives on the tree.
