Human is one of the best race all-round from a metagaming perspective, asimaar are also very good, but you will probably already get wing with one of your bloodlines.

Stats are perfectly fine.

DD dip is more a meme than anything, you're delaying important class feature if you take them early on. Unless you know what you're doing, which isn't the case here, I would not even consider taking another class before lvl 12 at the very least. The magus capstone though isn't very good, so upon reaching level 16, you might want to consider taking a few level elsewhere, at this point in the game you should be able to know if you want to trade the few feature remaining for a bit more stat or something else.
Conversely, it's also around this time that you should pick blind fight to spare you from tedious encounter during the last act.

Thanks bros *updates txt* - will go with this build and see along the way whether to dip DD.

Difficulty-wise, I feel pretty comfortable with party-based iso crpgs (e.g. had easy time in both Pillars on POTD and had to run with XP nerf mod once I grasped the system etc), it's just the >2.0 DnD ruleset is totally new to me and seems kinda overwhelming at first glance. I'll start on hard and see how it will go - good to know that you can adjust diff anytime.

Hard is most likely going to be too hard if you are unfamiliar with Pathfinder build autism.

Dudes, I'm about to start my virgin run and need some advice.
I'm D&D 3.5 illiterate - haven't played anything past IWD2, not even NWN or ToEE (yeah), so bear with me.

I suffer from chronic restart syndrome, which usually leaves me burned out and not finishing anything, so this time I want to plan MC build at least in general.

Looking at classes, Eldritch Scion looks cool - checked some discussions and seems the general consensus is that STR build is generally better than DEX one, which is feat hungry.

I don't wanna overthink this and spend too much time on planning feat/spell/skill progression, so just couple of general questions:

1. Race - human will do fine or should look at other options?
2. Stat-wise - 16/13/14/10/10/16 - this ok for STR build?
3. Dip of 4 lvls of DD - this seems to be popular option to boost STR and better than going pure ES - if so, what's the best timing for the dips?

Also, what's the suggested diff for a 3.5 newbie who doesn't know how to min-max shit and make custom party of heavily multiclassed munchkins?

We found that DD can work on a martial base to facilitate fighting in Dragon Form without having to cast the spell.

You already have a Barb companion, but no Barb doesn’t suck.

Extra Speed (longer Charge range) and Uncanny Dodge early, Inspire Ferocity for stacking team AB, scaling Natural AC and Pounce from Animal Totem. I liked Cleave Feats.

You also already have an Eldritch Scion. Magi are an advanced class to master.

Aldori Defender/Swordlord is fun/thematic/reasonably strong. Won’t feel like you’re doing a ton of damage but you can tank and debuff and face and rest of the party can do plenty.

Sylvan Sorc is probably favorite class for first-timers. Pets are strong and casters underrepresented among companions.

A lot of difficulty, especially at the start of the game (which is by far the hardest) comes down to knowing how to micro to take advantage of combat mechanics specific to the engine. Past the first chapter or two the difficulty tends to drop dramatically. You can adjust it on the fly midgame so I'd start with normal and bump it up if/when it becomes too easy.

No, he just sucks.
That's what he said.
Mad Dog is good but base Barbarian is subpar imo.
Barbarian is interesting. Some of those rage powers can get quite powerful and give you bonuses you can't really get elsewhere like pounce or significant crit range expansions and multipliers.

I just wouldn't use them as the main focus for getting hit on any significant difficulty which is somewhat counterintuitive given the class fantasy. They're great at making stuff explode though.

Nope, it's like that from the start, actually it was the first thing that strucked me. And to think that people complain about Underrail walking speed.

Guess that's default speed and I just got used to fast mode from PoE.

Have you been picking everything up? Is your party encumbered? Note that your party can be encumbered, but there are also considerations about individual encumbrance which could make single members slow or the entire party slow.

Nope, forgot to add in prev post that I'm not encumbered (saw that people are suggesting this on forums as a potential reason). Not a performance issue either - I guess that default speed is just slow as fuck, like e.g in Tranny. With exception there is no fast mode toggle.

Circa 2018 take

Reality is just about the opposite. Pets are fine but there are better classes to get them (Ekun specifically, or Sylvan Sorc for beginners) and it costs you the most important class progression that makes Barb worth playing.

This is solo brain again.

Amiri is fine for Barb fix and she’s surprisingly good as straight Barb once you figure out how not to tank with her.

Also works as Barb2/Freebooter or Sylvan Huntmaster. I think I even did Defender of True World with her (WIS was a stretch).

bonuses you can't really get elsewhere
Look up Inspire Ferocity.

If you do want to tank Guarded Stance works well with Animal Totem. In Wrath Skald can share those bonuses with team which makes P:K feel underpowered there, while Inspire Ferocity buffs team (including ranged) in P:K.

+3 AB untyped for whole team at lvl 8 is no joke, and keeps scaling up.

I don't mean the difficulty. It was actually pretty straightforward on hard - you don't have many tools at your disposal or party choice anyway. I'm talking about writing/NPCs so far.
