Afaik when you drown his wagon Jubilost should be somewhere in the Capital and joins party if you talk to him before completing troll chapter.

I looked for him everywhere and I guess I must accept the fact that he's gone for good. Something must have bugged out because I did have dialogue with him and even chuckled when he eye-rolled me for failing to help him remove his stuck wagon. I must have done something slightly out of order or failed a timeframe event that broke his option to have him join my party. I've been fortunate in that I haven't encountered hardly any bugs in a game that was notoriously buggy in its early release. Now I hit a big one that denies me a lot of content but at least lets me continue the game. Oh, well.

This patch should be around 1.5-2 GB if your game was at 1.2.7 version. It will be bigger for older version or you can try to "Verify Integrity of Game Files" in Steam, it sometimes fixes overbloated downloads.
I Verify Integrity after every major patch anyway, less chances to catch a bug jumping between beta and release branches.

there's a new 1.3m patch that's 7gb in size.

what's it do?

Two pages back.

Update on my little lost Jubilost situation: I loaded a save of just before I took on the Dwarven Fortress mission and went back to the fjord. Jubilost was there and his full dialogue option opened up and he joined my party. I'm one of those guys who hates to backtrack with a previous save and lose a lot of progress but in this case I'll make an exception. Doing a first playhrough on this massive game is like learning a complete college course on AD&D RPG game design, but it's enjoyable. For example, I wasn't aware that my Druid's Call Lightning spell only has to be cast once, then you get multiple uses of it according to the number of your lvl. Nice to be able to blast a baddie NINE times in a combat encounter using only a single spell. And now I programmed a hotkey to keep my old druid with the constitution of a sickly pink budgie from rushing headlong into a melee battle right after he casts a spell. I'm no longer fighting the interface, now I'm fighting the foes. Also, I foolishly accepted an offer of 500 BPs from that asshole in Brevoy and of course he ended up shystering me with an increase in building costs. You can be sure I'll be doing that differently. Suck it, Shylock, and use plenty of tongue. Metagaming has its uses outside of save scumming for retards.

Honestly I can't even imagine tackling this game without first having familiarity with D&D.

What do you mean by this exactly? The only AI options I'm aware of are cast-automatically and auto-attack toggle. Did they add more options into the game? (I haven't played in a while).

My familiarity with D&D is limited to Baldurs Gate and NVWN, and thats more than enough.

Hell, so long you play at Normal I think even someone who never play CRPG could play this game rather well after 3 - 4 hours of trying things out to get feel of the game.

I always manually control my rolled character and typically set the others on AI (but not always) and for some reason he would always rush into battle from the backlines right after he cast a spell, getting himself killed inevitably if I didn't fumble for and find the Stop key (default G) in time. Now I programmed my extra mouse buttons for quick access to that key and I stop him immediately after his spellcasting animation begins. I've been playing this game sloppily, until now. Shit is gonna get serious.

Actually, the unheard of and extensive customization of this game's difficulty makes it so that even a mental defective that only played Dora The Explorer Win95 games could probably complete it. Experience with D&D helps but is probably not necessary if you set the custom difficulty levels to Consoletard. I use whatever the defaults are for "Normal."

Yeah but a lot of the enjoyment of this kind of game comes from successful manipulation of the ruleset. If you don't understand the nuts and bolts then that enjoyment diminishes, I think. I usually know when a CRPG won't hold my interest if it fails to get me interested in how it works.

Or maybe not, I dunno. For me this holds true, but I'm sure some people must be deriving enjoyment from the game who don't know a lick of how it works nor care to know and just "play" it.

Uh, equip a ranged weapon?
Disable AI for that char (not sure if possible individually)?

Finding a ranged weapon that non-elf druid without weapon skills can use is quite a quest too.
My caster-druid ended up with Masterwork Dart bought from Oleg. It is one and only dart in first 5 chapters or so.

No, I don't think you can turn off AI for individual characters, or if there is that option, I never found it. And yes, my first thought was to just have him use a ranged weapon but why waste a feat on something like that (default vanilla Druids can't use shit when it comes to ranged weapons it seems) when I'd rather put it into Natural Spell or Spell Focus?

I agree. It's the sometimes very challenging micro-managing (ie figuring out which spells/weapons to use to defeat incredibly tough and resistant monsters) that's part of the enjoyment. It's the essence of D&D and the real fun of it, giving you the tools to use for success, like Doom (arguably the greatest PC game(s) of all time) did for weapons. But a good, first-rate, smart developer like Owlcat will always find a way to make it accessible to those that just want a more casual experience so the game has a better chance of succeeding economically.

There is an icon to turn on or off AI. It works only on selected characters.
I had tristian do this all the time because I had him equipped with 2x dodge daggers. In the end I turned off his AI.
But after that I learned that I should have done that from the start as it is very useful to have him be able to cast spells and healing at exact moment you need it instead of few seconds later.

Only arcane tricksters or other characters with powerful attacks should be attacking, all full casters are better to wait until needed. Sometimes seconds matter.

Hah. I thought it was a global on/off toggle. Thanks for that info. Now the problem of my suicidal kamikaze Druid is solved. I should have known Owlcat put something like this in the game :) Now the only question is: dare I install the 1.3 patch? And should it be used with existing saves? There are a few nice QoL features in it.

If you playing without mods and your saves are made at 1.2.7 or 1.2.6 than chances of survival are pretty high and saves will be compatible.

I only use one mod - the one that speeds up the zoom on the book menu in the title screen so I'll hopefully be okay. I have that Bag of Tricks mod standing by in case I need it but not activated. I was hoping it had a camera hack that zooms in on your character during dialogue scenes but it didn't. Sometimes playing isometric RPGs with a God's eye view can make these tiny puny mortals below look like flies with wings torn off by wanton boys ;)

I am thinking of starting a new game in 1.3

Can you make Valerie Eldritch Knight to utilize her high Charisma?

She fell off hard as pure tank even with Stalwart Defender, I am thinking of another build for her in this new play through.
