Well, kinda boring, but probably they are the best pick in most cases for a grenadier build, so...

Yeah and there are still bugs, and many mods that haven't really finished development.
It's been 20 years since BG release and some prominent mods, with all due respect for SCS, still in active development.
Yes, but they are mostly finished. And, frankly, Kingmaker is good but it isn't on BG2's level.
Meh. Kingmaker is good. Perhaps, dare I say, a spiritual successor to the Baldur's Gate saga.

Last thing I need is to built my whole party around gimmick that gets totally neutered every time I encounter the immune to precision damage enemy.

Is that severe though? Sneak attack immunity is not that prevalent in Pathfinder compared to 3.5. You can do a full sneak attack party and don't really suffer.

No, immunity is not severe. Quite a few elementals though.
But a number of enemies have Uncanny Dodge, making sneak attacks tricky to set up. And some have precision damage reduction (or fortification?), making it much less effective. Also any kind of DR hits sneak attackers the most, as I think it's calculated separately for the precision part.

Is there a difficulty setting closest to the PNP?
So far I've put everything on challenging and just switched "somewhat tougher enemies" to normal.

Woah, turn-based mod makes the game real fun for me. My motivation was faltering a bit but with TB I'm actually looking forward to play this extensively!

I'm actually replaying through the Baldur's Gate saga on LoB. Just recently finished BG 1 on LoB. Pretty good shit. Anyways, yes, Kingmaker does hold up. The thing is Kingmaker was the best game we've had in a real long time. We're just starved of good RTWP BG like games. Doesn't help that I have niche tastes when it comes to this genre.

Both are great games that do certain things better than the other. I will agree with Pink Eye, the main point for me is that Kingmaker is the 1st RTwP game since BG2 SoA that did not disappoint me. Huge deal, for me.

Character development (theme/narrative-wise) is better in Kingmaker. Build porn is more hardcore in Kingmaker. Irenicus aside (I love Irenicus, make no mistake), the theme layers go impressively deep in Kingmaker. And personally, I also like the kingdom management aspect (despite flaws), which Kingmaker has. Kingmaker also supports various alignments much better than BG2 (BG2 is mainly designed to be played as a goody two shoes, clearly). Better C&C too. Better puzzles.

BG2 of course has Irenicus, some impressively fun characters that made history (Minsc, Edwin, pick whoever you like), the best encounter design in the history of full RPGs, mage duels, excellent side quests, Athkatla, and generally unprecedented polishing in all aspects that the game focused on for a game of such scope.

Even if I give the slight advantage to BG2 as a complete package, it does not really matter. Kingmaker is up there, and it has its advantages too.

Lantern King is certainly no Irenicus, I agree. However, I did enjoy how interwoven the whole story was, in regards to the Lantern King's influence. Everything in Kingmaker felt interconnected, nothing felt isolated. To me that is good story telling. To be able to tell a story where the main villain is involved, and is seemingly behind the scenes. Playing his tricks and curses. The mad jester. I need to replay through Kingmaker again after I finish up my Legacy of Bhaal playthrough.

Regarding storytelling so far (I am still level 4) I gotta say I find the early premises a bit silly and inconsistent. I mean, "King wanted, no experience required" makes little sense. You have two suspects of treason, naming both of them team leaders is stupid. The whole "traitor" thing does not really work from a logical point of view. Yet I find the whole thing charming, the tone is right, and I suppose story will get better.

In BG 1 I had the feeling from the beginning that the story was very strong and consistent, but I have seen too little of PF:KM to make a real comparison between the two.
