Codex 2016 - The Age of Grimoire Make the Codex Great Again! Grab the Codex by the pussy Codex Year of the Donut Shadorwun: Hong Kong Divinity: Original Sin 2 Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag.
Phew. Made it out of the tutorial. Just wondering though. Are mages supposed to miss that much with spells? I know mages have a rough time in the beginning but dear lord. My guy is as useful as a stick in the eye at the moment. Very demoralizing game when it comes to combat. I do enjoy a challenge but damn, everyone regardless of place I explore wtfpwns my little party of idiots.

What do you mean by missing with spells? Enemy saving throws?

I didn't read the log, but every spells just floats past every guy I try to attack, and it comes up as miss. Will check next time what it says.

Getting the impression a lot of people here say it's hard because they're playing on the stat-bloat/dice-bloat difficulties i.e. not the Rules as Written. :M

That's why your Deadfire is tanking now, and not in the MMO sense!

Might want to wait until Kingmaker surpasses Deadfire's concurrent players to say a thing like this.
Have you looked at GOG's sales indicators? There is no doubt it's blowing Deadfire out of the water, pun not intended.

At lower levels, mages usually go with spells that don't require an attack roll. Magic missile is pretty much a staple, and my high level mages carry it for generic, unmissing, (usually)unresistable damage.

So is this like Neverwinter Nights HD, except with no modding kit and no multiplayer?
I was thinking of pira- I mean buying, but read a bunch of people insisting it has memory leaks out the ass, so I'll wait for a patch.

If you are using ranged touch spells.. yea they are. Unless you took feats that remove penalty of shooting into melee. If you don't have those feats, shoot those spells at their ranged enemies and disable melee guys with flare and daze.

Yesterday I saw a stream of someone who never played any tabletop games at all. They played on Unfair difficulty, and by accident managed to create the literally perfect Monster Tactician stat/spell/etc wise, and got through the tutorial. That was such a bizarre experience, watching someone accidentally be good.

I wish I remember what their twitch name was

Cohh is back at it.

He is rerolling but is still refusing to not play on hard.

Cannot wait to watch him get wiped on the 3 wolves for 1 hour again!

Yeah difficulty buff to enemy saves screws casters triple time compared to fighters. Thankfully I'm in summoner build. Only another advice I can give is to use spells that do not rely on penetrating enemy saving throws.

Increasing your BAB or AC is easy. But increasing your spell DC is a lot harder. I think it is one thing devs should be told about.

I'm only extremely early in the game, but I'm always playing without percentage bloat if at all possible, and PF:K is no exception. "Hard" and "Challening" is supposedly RAW, whereas the default is nerfed stats, so from that perspective, you might be right.

I don't mind, though, but the intro sections *are* quite hard if you're a caster playing on anything above the default difficulty.

Owlcat had a quarter of the Kickstarter funding than Obsidian did with Pillars but is more of an IE successor? And Obsidian has employees that worked on the IE games. And this is more fun. I don't even...
Maybe Owlcat simply realized that trying to actually cater to your target audience works much better than patronizing and pooh-pooh-ing it.

GOG's numbers are small compared to Steam's, with the possible exception of the Witchers.
For most games maybe, but IE-like RPGs are an exception. PoE & Deadfire itself are evidence of this.

Actually odd, Pathfinder: Kingmaker has gone DOWN the GOG bestseller charts since before it was released. It's now on the bottom of page 34 out of 53: https://www.gog.com/games?sort=bestselling&page=34&as=1649904300

Before it was on 31, same page as Deadfire.
Maybe it's time to renew my patreon-ship of SteamSpy...

As for Deadfire, the Versus Evil sale appears to be payng off. Though probably more on GOG than on Steam. The unpaid SteamSpy still shows Deadfire in the "100 000 - 200 000" range.

You gotta respect Cohh for refusing to give up playing on hard.
I just laugh how many people refuse to lower difficulty because they are used that hardest = normal and "I for years played on hardest and only play hardest, picked it here and game kicks my teeth out, this is not fair".

At least *try* to deflect first, then lie, and *then*, if pressed further, do the whole "Try to contain yourself and hold your sword, but I'm of the reincarnationally disinclined, or as others would put it, a conscientious objector to the living state."
I disagree. This kind of trying to imitate realistic characters in an isometric fantasy RPG is much of what made Deadfire's writing so boring.
Are you certain that trying to make characters believable and realistic, no matter the medium, is at fault - but not the ineptitude of writers who failed to make the player care about it and keep him interested in what's happening? I disagree; I like to read flavor descriptions of emotions, showing that characters aren't blank slates; the problem with PoE was that background world and people in it are uninteresting and unrelatable. Planescape: Torment managed to make Mortuary zombies interesting - each of them had their own number and their own story told in an unique way.

I'm not saying "no matter the medium". On the contrary, in the quote you reference I have specified the medium very narrowly :)

So about the main problem I got nowadays, what the hell I'm gonna roll...

My favorite is dwarven axe and shield fighter.
2 hander paladin is also another favorite (I blame Sturm)
Or an thief, fighter/thief (blaming Artemis Entreri)

Pathfinder balance goes like this: Play a caster.
