This feels like the largest RPG I have ever played, and I have played many. I have spent all day (flu) sitting glued to my chair, thinking this morning "eh, let's just wrap up chapter 2 and kill the trolls!" -- it's now 20 hours later and I am still in chapter 2, closing in on level 9. I haven't even unlocked additional advisor slots yet...

I just hit Level 8 after 43 hours. The scale is pretty immense.

Do they count loading screens in the play time?

Sitting comfortably at 226 hours after Pitax, waiting for something to happen. I think I've visited every place available at the moment. In retrospect a third of this time spend waiting for bugs to resolve themselves, save game editing, running the game under debugger etc.

The fact that they thought their game is 80 hours in the interview is hilarious and just shows they had no actual QA whatsoever.

Same interview, very interesting how they point out twice that they made game for a very particular player group and it was only important to show what they have done to them and succeed, and they feel they were successful. So they did not even try to make it friendly for people who don't like RPGs I take it.

talk about a difficulty spike in the last chapter lol.

heard you like your AC, how about i make your enemies spam touch attacks and magic missile only?

heard you like your chance to hit, how about i make ghosts immune to everything except sirocco?

heard you like your ranger, how about making his respawn in the house bug if your dog is dead?

pitax loading screens and the last chapter '' balance '' really took a toll. In the end the game was a great experience but it's so obvious this had absolute zero QA. Something went terrible wrong, there 's just no way those enemies, amount of bugs and loot position in the last chapter had any testing. the way you find loot really screams desperate measures, at the very least they did a part of the ending of the game with it released.

can someone please tell me if ekun was supposed to respawn in the house at the edge in that door in the corridor where there s stairs going down and the door where amiri is?

Don't even try going into Chapter 6 or 7 for now.

Just don't. Pitax is polished candyland in comparison.

You might finish the game but I doubt you would have fun. Especially if you're Good and is set on a path for waifu ending. Although for Evils there is a share of game breaking bugs too.

Wait, what are the chapter cutoffs?

I'm in Nyrissa's dream atm, when I get out I get hit by Wild Hunt. That still safe to play, and going into Pitax capital as well, afterwards?

Did any of you get a treasurer waiting for you event when you got rank 10 economy?

I just want to say, Darth Roxxor is a fucking retard for missing out on this game. This is honest to God the best western RPG in perhaps a decade for those who liked BG and RoA. I'm not even exaggerating.

Also, I have 100k gold. I buy every item that looks nice but I haven't sunk any into BP because I'm terrified that the very next merchant I find will sell something awesome... I missed that feeling. Honestly though, I think you're meant to buy BP with it like you would in pen and paper where you fund your inevitable stronghold with murderhobo things.

You won't get anything from merchants until the items cost 200-300k, spend it all on BP.

I recently cleared Armag tomb and some hidden loot is raising some serious questions. Stash with 5 breastplates and 3 spears under the rock? Yes please, in fact it's present on multiple maps.

It makes a lot of sense to wait after what happened to BT4. Game breaking bugs ruining your fun is not fun.

So you're saying they didn't make the game for paidrones? Color be shocked. Shocked I tell you.
Not that shocked.

It's funny how popular the game is anyway, though, despite people bitching about it. I think it shows two things:
  • A lot of people simply haven't had the opportunity in their lifetimes to actually play good games, and so do not know what constitutes a good game until they actually get to play it.
  • What people think or say they want is rarely the same thing as what they actually want or need, and Owlcat is being stupid in listening to people that say they want it easier or have "QOL" "improvements" (such as the get-out-of-jail-free card of Atonement Scrolls).
There's a primal appeal in solving frustrating scenarios and dealing with issues that most modernist games simply do not offer, and it's part of why platform games are still so popular today, even when they boot you all the way back to the beginning when you miss a jump. Most people don't actually want to "just be told a story". Most people want to succeed in the face of adversity and actually earn the right to say that they played on Hard or whatever.

Lowest-common-denominator develolment always result in sub-par gameplay and narratives that ultimately do not appeal to anyone in any enduring fashion. At least niched products can claim that they are cult classics, and even Tides of Numenera can at least claim to have had an impact Fallout 4 will never tout, in time. And Numenera was a fucking wreck.

That's fair but you can spend hundreds of hours without being anywhere near the end game.

The game deserves a review based on the first few Chapters, which are fine by now. I played on 11-13c-14 versions and had only a few minor bugs.

I keep starting over with new characters and groups and I even got my kid to make two different characters and play the prologue twice :D

Anyone know what triggers beginning of chapter 3? Been months since I killed the troll king. Visited a guy to the East, rescued a kid, did lots of quests. Just got a quest to go to Candlemere. Have I just been super time efficient? I avoid resting to keep the game hard...

I had several months of dicking around after Troll Trouble, maybe even half a year. It's normal.

The Ch triggers seem to be a combination of absolute dates and relative time passage, would like a detailed list for future playthroughs.

You have another half of Chapter 2 before Chapter 3 starts.

The questline that leads to Season of Bloom (the other half) begins after you get the quest where you hunt monsters in a competition. That particular quest starts around a month or two after the Candlemere quest trigger.

Efficiency does eventually lead you to dick around with the Barony because there's nothing else better to do for hundreds of days.

The Chapter 3 trigger is when 'Ancient Curse Part 2' begins. I had something like a 165 day gap between the first and second parts. You're basically meant to spend the rest of your time in Part 2 exploring the Narlmarches, doing companion quests and upgrading your barony.

[That particular quest starts around a month or two after the Candlemere quest trigger.

I had so much spare time to dick around that I ended up doing that quest before the event trigger. The guy turned up to my court and I was able to just tell him, "Oh yeah, thr situation over there is a bit fucked" and I got paid for it.
