A newly released RPG has bugs up the butt? Oh, no! This is so shocking and totally unexpected! Nobody could've foreseen this.

Might as well quote the post:

Exp is never divided for 12 members. In general, switching off the shared exp option is beneficial if you plan to run the game solo or with reduced number of party members (let's say 4 or 3). When this option is turned off, only active party members gain the exp and it's divided equally among them (except for exp that you gain for skill checks).
If you turn the option on, all exp you gain will be devided in 6 parts and all companions, no matter active or left at the capital, will get there share.

So the option only makes a difference if you have fewer than 6 people in your active party.

I watched Dan while he was doing a Nymph I think related quest.

During the ambush, how can you escape if you can't kill the monsters, climb the wall and don't have invisibility potion?

He was playing an Alchemist, he manged to kill some of the monsters but some were way too hard for him so he tried to climb the wall but couldn't no matter how he tried. Finally he found an invisibility potion and after many reloads he manged to sneak out without being killed.

Is there another way to survive that encounter? I think he tried to go to the temple but couldn't enter it anymore, he couldn't outrun the monsters because of the traps as well.

And then if you switch it off you have to spend BP to train companions via Kingdom management if you want them to increase their level.

There's bugs and there's a whole community wondering why they are constantly behind in XP :M
They're not behind in XP, they go to fight CR3-4 things with level 2 party ignoring all content and all quests around them.

You're not supposed to level up to level 10 by fighting random encounters (and it doesn't work like in BG1 with flesh golems), you level as you go through particular milestones and adventures which usually earn you a level before you proceed to next one.

So wait - the XP is supposed to be divided between non-active party members? Guess I'm the retard then, but how the fuck are people supposed to sort through those options? Logically the default doesn't really make sense.

No matter what a bunch of rando's are gonna wonder what the fuck is going on.

You can't fall behind in xp, because each character can never receive less than 1/6 of the total xp reward. However, a solo character will also only receive 1/6 of the total xp unless you disable the option.

She's the iconic character for the barbarian class from Paizo, by the way.

Now the question is what happens if you turn ON to not share XP will non active companions when you are at start of the game and have not met any new companions yet. Does your party of 4 get more XP now and when you meet your fifth, that one will lag 1000 exp or something?

Yes. Like my Harrim who still lags 3k xp. Not that it matters much on higher levels. And my Lindzi eats all traps for herself so she is 1 level higher than every party member. (but that's a plan to push Bard class further than game would allow me otherwise)

By the way, I would recoemmend against getting Bokken to help in the tavern fight. Turns out, he can die, and he'll just be gone forever as a result

The journal outright tells you to bring invisibility potions for that lol
