How much is that exactly in numbers?
Since i'm going to replay on hard anyway it is good to see options. Care to share?

This isn't even that optimized. I'm still level 4.

Main Hero:
18 str 14 dex 16 con

Feats: exotic (falcata), weapon focus, weapon specialization, power attack, cleave, cleaving finish

AB: +8 (+4 bab, +4 str, +1 magic, +1 feat, -2 power attack)
Damage: 1d8+4(str)+4(power attack)+2(specialization)+1(magic) = (12+19)/2 = 15.5 average damage w/ x3 crit
crit deals average 46.5 damage roughly 10% of the time, 46.5 x .1=4.6, so that increases average damage to 20.

Also often gets free attacks when he kills stuff. It should also be obvious that there are significant tactical benefits to dealing 40+ damage in a single hit.

AC: 26 (10+10(+1 full plate)+1(ring of protection +1)+3(+1 large shield) +2 dex)

Valerie:
14 str 13 dex 19 con

(strength too goddamned low for power attack)

Feats: exotic (bastard), toughness, dodge, weapon focus, weapon specialization

AB:+8 (+4 bab, +2 str, +1 magic, +1 feat)
Damage: 1d10+2(str)+2(spec) = (5+15)/2=10 average damage w/x2 crit
crit deals average of 20 damage 10% of the time, so +2 average damage=12. No bonus attacks

AC: 26 (10+10(+1 full plate)+1(ring of protection +1)+3(+1 large shield) +1 dex +1 dodge)

This is without any stat-increasing items. Both of them have access to the same buffs so that is irrelevant. My guy deals almost double the damage and has more utility than her for no tradeoffs. The lack of 15 strength really hurts Valerie, upping that and getting her power attack does even things out a bit.

Next level Valerie will get her Tower shield for free which gives her +2 AC but that along with evasion and immunity to flanking are all she will ever get. Those bonuses are nice, sure, but there's no reason you can't give your fighter the tower shield specialist kit but still end up with far more power. Also, if you go with a 2-handed fighter you will sacrifice minor AC for a whole lot of damage. I actually made this guy as more of a theme build.

Really, if Valerie can't convert to Paladin at some point in the story, her stats are a crime.

Is there a Codex Consensus yet on what the right difficulty setting is? I am unfamiliar with Pathfinder ruleset but am willing and able to read the manual.

I'd go custom. Start with challenging, then change enemy stat adjustments to normal. (For whatever reason, none of the set difficulties use normal). If you want to rest less when you get stat damage, change Remove negative effects on rest to true. If you don't like always walking slow, change 'party's speed depends on the weight you're carrying' to false.
I use dead door settings. You still can be one shot. And some enemies will finish you off if you get to 0 hp.

Bought the game from GMG, 5% off, unfortunately the 23% sale (that's just ending) doesn't apply to the game for some reason =(

Only reason I bought the game was to get access to the character creation screen... not gonna play til the game is fully patched

It does not matter. -15 to Stability is instant death for a starting kingdom in the troll act.

That's because Amiri is a fighter and not an advisor.

Anyway, all kingdom's quests can be done by you and this is one of the critical ones.

Can you make an evil Cleric that can spontaneously cast Inflict Wounds and then go with Jaethal? Seems like a good alternative to Valerie.

Make the Codex Great Again! Grab the Codex by the pussy Insert Title Here RPG Wokedex Strap Yourselves In Codex Year of the Donut A Beautifully Desolate Campaign Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire Pathfinder: Kingmaker Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag. My team has the sexiest and deadliest waifus you can recruit.
I really want to make another char, but I don't have any will to start again, after 15 hours. They could implement a respec at the end of chapter 1...

After all my whining yesterday I beat the damn bandit boss.

-I killed the three bandits without an alarm, then went for the group of 6. Killed 5, and the last one made it to the bell with a sliver of health left. Eh, good for him. I let the Stag Lord come out and line up his posse.

-The AI shits the bed. The barbarian guy charges me alone, I kite him back and gank him with my whole team. The game tells me "You killed both lieutenants" even though there is one left. I pull out bows and pelt him with arrows while he just sits there. "The game says I'm dead so my AI is shut off, herp derp!"

-I attack the rest of the generics and my reinforcements appear. They slaughter everyone, including the stag lord. GG.

The argument that the enemies need stat buffs to compensate for bad AI holds more water to me now. On the other hand, no PnP game would have "insurmountable barriers" like this:

Does it have anything to do with his kit, Eclesitheurgwead? They're supposed to be able to pick their second domain once a day.
Nope, I'm an Ecclesitheurge myself, and I've got two domains. In the game, you can't actually change your domain once a day, either.

Nope, Tristian specializes in Healing and Good domains.

EDIT: Maybe?
Well he sure as shit doesn't have the Healing Domain in my game, although it would make sense that he'd have Healing, based on the character.

If you want the game to be closer to the core rules then pick challenging then change everything to normal or average except enemy difficulty, change it to weak instead.

If you want a challenging yet not entirely frustrating experience then pick challenging and change everything to normal or average.

If you are a masochist or an autist then pick challenging or an higher difficulty.

apparently low steam review are working in favor of the game: the message going around is "negative review are from people that are bat at the game" so basically nobody consider the bug and broken stuff (maybe the 3 hotfix in 3 days cover that).

I just pray that tomorrow we don't get invaded by review with the title "PATHFINDER KINGMAKER THE DARK SOULS OF ISOMETRIC RPG"

Most important thing in difficulty menu is to disable movement speed depends on carry load.

You still seem to move slower in some cases (valerie is moving slower than everyone else for instance), but it helps make walking everywhere be less annoying.

Three skeletal champions are kicking my ass inside a tomb in Old Sycamore Depths.

:shredder:
I had huge troubles with those at first. I would advise just clearing all of Sycamore and then come back and try again, even if you haven't leveled. Also, remember that you can pull shit with an archer and tell everyone to hold position with H, allowing you to get a couple of shots in. Make sure to be rested and do proper pre-buffing, even if it's "just Bless" or Linzi's Inspire Courage. Those actions taken actually matter a lot in combat - sometimes it's not about the buff, but the fact that you just can't afford to spend the time doing those buffs once the shit hits the fan.

Is Pathfinder the Dark Souls of RPG:s?

That said, I think the game is getting enough shit over bugs and such for it to get through to the developers, and word-of mouth regarding such things and getting a reputation for buggy shit is far worse than any steam review. But yeah, most of the people are just fucking retards, skewing the reviews.
