From a systems standpoint the writing is better. Deadfire has the most dialogue checks of any game in history.

The worldbuilding is also better. They went from a fairly generic FR inspired setting, to a whimsical colonial Polynesian inspired setting.

That's not a given. I prefere a classic setting like Poe1, with gothic castles and proper dungeons, i can't care less about pirates or fucking tribal zulù amokabonga bonobo villages

classic setting like Baldur's Gate, Poe 1, Pathfinder Kingmaker, Divinity original Sin, King bounty, Heroes might and magic, Age of wonders 3 and many others. You can't go wrong with classic, people will always like it.

To be fair, I think it's why the writing isn't their best. It's impossible to have that much reactivity without sacrificing quality.
I think it's because their good writers were all gone, or on contract in a limited capacity (despite PoE1 I think Fenstermaker is mostly a good writer)

All of their writers have demonstrated talent before. The overall package just isn't consistent.

And contrary to the codex narrative, I think the writing is generally much better than the first game.

95% on Steam in the last 30 days, 94% all time from 2014. It may not technically qualify for GOTY 2018, but who could argue that it isn't more worthy than PoE 2. We need to GOAT this pigeon in 7000 codex polls... steamtards cannot be wrong.

Deadfire's writing was panned for being too corny and lighthearted compared to the first game.

It's funny because people complained the first game was too serious and depressing. I personally preferred the writing style of the first game.

White March struck a decent balance I thought, but it was clear from Maneha in part 2 that they were going to go too far in the wacky direction in future

This is pretty moot though, stat boosts are relative - what's a baseline is entirely up to the developers, it's not like all enemies in Dumpsterfire are made to follow player character rules.
The baseline is what they shipped with and kept for six months after release.

Hi.

gosh spend time playing the game and step away and so much is going on okay? The game is massive there is so much to do right and there is not a lot of the annoying lore dumps like Durance made during the first game which I am thankful for they just ended up in my strongholdto do quests but so much flavour when you arrive in the city it is nice to just take a breather and walk around to explore while you work on reparing your ship and buy the supplies and just meet people to get sucked in to the world that is what I have really liked. Okay so my most memorable moment is going down the wooden eleveator to the under city and trying to find a way out, sneaking into a wizard tower, then there is Serafen exploring the bath house without a shirt on and rping his character, and finally leaving the city to sail to a new island! There is just there is a lot to do and become part of in the world it is thoughtful.

I read the threads and scan the comments how it has not done well and that is really a shame because I really think it is a fun game exploring the world with characters from the first game and hope there could be a third game but based on the low sales and reception probably not right? :( Do not think it deserves the mean comments it gets and ahppy to be still playing it when I can that is what truly makes the game fun because I miss it when I cannot play it. Was not interest in the seoncd add-on to the game but got the first one and will get the last because they sound like places worth exploring and expanding on the world. :salute:

Thanks,
Sherry

I don't know why they put DLC ending slides and scripted interaction scenes in the base game files, but I'm so glad they do. I am hyped for this damn thing.

Even more dire, Fallout 4 has 90% positive reviews and is no longer mixed on steam.

Why not? Fallout 4 is a great game. One of the best games of the current gen. Just because it does not have gay romances, sperg combat using d20, and pseudophilosophical main story that really when you think about makes no sense, does not mean it is a bad game.

Make the Codex Great Again! Grab the Codex by the pussy Insert Title Here RPG Wokedex Strap Yourselves In Codex Year of the Donut A Beautifully Desolate Campaign Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire Pathfinder: Kingmaker Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag. My team has the sexiest and deadliest waifus you can recruit.
The best thing about PoE2 is the modding, actually. Now is much much easier to go to nexus and find something interesting there. New classes, prestige classes, items, fixes...

Overall PoE2 is a better game, but the main plot is a train wreck.

Just because it does not have gay romances
Except it does have it. The male character can date male companions, same for the female character and female companions. I think at this point you're just trolling.

Seriously? I wasn't aware. I never attempt gay romances and since i don't recall anyone mentioning such romances in PoE II i was under the impression it didn't have them.

There's also probably a case to be made that Fallout 4 does indeed have a pseudophilosophical main story that really when you think about makes no sense
