If only this kind of difficulty didn't plummet after Port Maje, I would be soooo happy.

I replayed the whole thing with patch 3.0 and I'd say that with level scaling the difficulty is sufficient. You can definitely get your ass whooped in few places if you're not careful.

Yea but that Drake Pack in the dig site I would say is probably one of the hardest encounters in the game.. If you don't cheese it.

After that you can pretty much meander your way through the whole game without a single consumable if you want.

"Deal with it, noob"

"Yeah three different difficulties below that , get gud noob"

- stays the single difficult thing in the game. that encounter is a load of bullshit, everything in the dungeon below that is a cakewalk. requiring you to hire mercs or use consumables just for that single occasion when you hardly have any abilities or ways to gain experience is annoying and incredible stupid. sawyer is a fucking retard.

I'd agree with you if the game didn't offer several lower difficulty levels all the way down to story mode (just like Sawyer said). Swallow your pride and lower the difficulty like a gentleman instead of complaining about the game offering hard difficulty for people who want it.

i dont see the point of its difficulty as its not further along enough to be a meaningful build check. its just a random spike
but its skippable (which i did) so i guess it could be forgiven.

id love to see sawyer beat this with a multitude of 'balanced' builds/tactics.

Yea I don't think that probably 90% of builds could make it past that point without hiring some boiz from the tavern.. which Sawyer generally frowns upon. So I have to assume that encounter is "over tuned".. Which is a shame.. I wish the whole of POTD was like that..

You can beat it though without hiring anyone.. but you need to toss Sawyer's Balance philosophy out of a moving car window and munchkin cheese your build quite a bit.

I never hired any help for the digsite. Sure, reloaded a fair bit with some chars, used most of the consumables gathered, did try to ignite the powder barrel with varying success. Generally its doable - but you probably should have at least a decent main character.

At that level your build hardly matters, it's a decent litmus test to ward off casuals from POTD and a get good tutorial on the basics approaching/pulling difficult encounters. Lots of players never even used consumable in POE 1 potd, so this sort of sets the stage what you might expect going forward.

The butthurt this encounter has spawned is amazing though

whats poe 1 potd has anything to do with this? if that was so this difficulty would have been present in release version
also pulling is nothing but a casuals strategy. if you were supposed to take that encounter in packs they would have placed it as separate packs.

I appreciate Sawyer's fervor in this, but the drake fight vastly misrepresents the level of difficulty going forward, soooo don't know what to think about that.

Not sure how the drake fight is in any way good gameplay, you zone in with three lvl 2 NPCs and deal with upwards of lvl 6 enemies. With PotD(+Galawain) buffs being static and bigger early game, it's just a massive cheesefest.

From what? You get lvl 2 when you talk to the governor.

The faster you're off from the railroaded tutorial island the better.

Not like Gorrecci street is much easier at lvl 2 though.

I was level 3 there
enter Gorrecci street from the south, solve it peacefully

for the ruins: up to the left where the ladder is has a tiny chokepoint, pull them there and you can fight the mobs one at a time

is there any way to learn in game how much bonus arcana/alchemy/explosives provide to consumables?

I ding level 2 in the starter cave. Then in Port Maje you get xp for arriving, for speaking with the Governor, routing troublemakers from the tavern, recovering money for the vailan beaten by the huana guard, helping Rum Riggere escape. Gorecci at level 3 I guess.
I always ding level 4 when arriving at the ruins. You get a big chunk of xp then.

Everytime I try to replace Maia I always fails. Her subclass is way better than any Ranger subclass available for the player, and that's after they nerfed her once. She can deal almost as much damage as my main character, which is insane.

How can you have trouble with anything below Veteran (or even below PotD), though. Are some people not using any abilities at all or something?
