Other challenges don't look very interesting except, maybe, Ondra's.
And it looks like i finished current playthrough. Got trapped on some island. Feargus just running circles around and won't leave. My starting ship can't fight him, i can't outrun him because of Ondra challenge and i can't board because my party is much lower level.

Any tips for playing Ascendant on POTD? As I get higher in levels I'm struggling to max out my focus once in a battle :M

Get some good guns. My no. 1. recommendation is Kitchen Stove from the old city questline. Enchant it with Thunderous Report (1/per encounter) and aim the cone well (as enemies close to engage, but haven't arrived yet). This should typically lead to instant Ascension. Then get a Cleric to cast Salvation of Time on you.
A decent backup for a second Ascension is Amira's Wing rod from Amira's roost ruins on a south-western island. It casts horrid wilting or whats-it-called, unfortunately only once per rest.

Red Hand from Neketaka is a good general purpose backup. Target squishy enemies with it.

I second the Red Hand for Ascendant cipher! Blunderbusses like Kitchen Stove I find doesn't have enough penetration to cause a large enough damage later on in PotD meaning your cipher won't be able to ascend fast enough. Usually the first two shots, or at max one reload of the Red Hand does the trick. That was the only weapon I always upgraded to the max as soon as I had the resources even to Mythic. The +40% damage is a great property too if you generally don't rest very often, its basically always up.

Didn't have much issues with Pen on Thunderous Report.

Also if you use mortar blunderbusses, they do best of slash/pierce.
Best of all, their aoe attacks target Reflex, which leads to a lot of crits VS many enemies (+50% Pen). Granted I usually used them under Tenacious (for example from Thunderous Blows or the Priest buff) or with Rogue Crippling Strike (also +2 Pen).

Btw I love the 9th level Cipher spell which gives +8 penetration, that shit is unreal :) Shame Ciphers cannot cast it on themselves, still it is immensely useful... like Ciphers generally with all their soft CCs and buffs. Especially Ascendants with Salvation of Time from a priest do wonders; the two of them can make the party unkillable in a long fight.

Hehe. Not bad, I'll definitely try it later.

Usually enemy ships leave if you embark on island, but this time it didn't worked. So it's either 1. It's bug. or 2. It's:slamdunk:

If he's circling around couldn't you wait until he's at his furthest point and try to outrun him?

He's not circling around island, he's running circles near port. I tried but with ondra's and me being on starting ship vs his big un he always catches me before i can run far enough for him to lose interest.

My only hope for now is to try to run away in ship battle and pray he will miss with cannons. But with him being stronkest kaptin in the game it's unlikely.

Random thought - would be nice if ship battle was RT...
Ever played Patrician III? Amazing game overall, but the realtime ship combat used to be a nail-biting experience for me.

First time I heard of that game. There's a 4 and 5 - are they worth?
Had Sid meier's pirates' combat in mind. I think it was Sawyer who apologized to the community at their forums about the ship combat and said that they had plenty of ideas but no time to realize them. How difficult could it be to make something like this :( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DOj2JGM7mwA

I tried to outrun him in ship battle mode. My speed is 50, his is just 52 but he gets 80 from time to time so sooner or later he catches me anyway.

Presumably threads are split when they're already big and a large number of new posts are expected, which isn't really a factor with Deadfire

I've had 4 crashes so far in 30 hours, and the game itself has pretty poor performance -- definitely gets worse after playing for an hour or two until I restart the game.
edit:
5th crash.

Sawyer's 2016 GDC Europe talk on PoE is now on Youtube:

In this GDC Europe 2016 session, Obsidian Entertainment's Josh Sawyer looks at the origins of Pillars of Eternity, and how Obsidian aimed to update the classic PC RPG genre while paying tribute to the games that inspired it.

Does the Troubadour bonus even do anything in turn-based mode? It has the same linger times as a regular chanter.
