Anyways, if it's not and it's an actual sequel : no, I'm betting they stick to this formula. Microsoft bought Obsidian, not Bioware. They clearly expect Obsidian games and a return to classics is clearly the directoin they have advertised. It's not the early 2000s anymore.
A decline is still possible, but I don't think they'll change "how it looks".

Microsoft would be insane to have bought Obsidian and have them do projects like PoE with any sizeable amount of staff. They bought them to make an exclusive Oblivion, not indie style games. I guess it's possible a small portion are working on it, but I'd sooner believe they want all hands on deck working on a big Xbox 4 exclusive.

Isometric doesn't automatically equal indie-style. The problem at Obsidian is that there is no one left there with the balls to make a good RPG which doesn't underestimate the player's intelligence and will try to innovate. If there was, then it would make sense to worry about the perspective..

Yeah, Diablo 3 and Divinity: Original Sin 2 were certainly big budget games with a pseudo-iso presentation.

It's infurating that competition between Larian-Obsidian-Inxile ended up being entirely about production values.
Larian clearly won the "fun game" competition, even on the Codex.
Won over what? it is 32th in last popularity poll and megathread separated in 2017 after release is embarrassingly short for a game of this caliber.
Quite a surprising with all rants about TB supremacy being trendy on Codex this season.

A pan flash, but clearly better-received than the California clowns.

It took BG3 announcement for massive interest shitposting about Larian's game. Obsidian is waay ahead in this department.
InXile though... did they made at least one decent game? I've only tried numanuma and this one was horrific. I wonder why Microsoft wasted money on them.

Wasteland 2 DC is good.
Also Bards Tale IV DC (you sense a pattern here with the DCs) is "decent".
Wasteland 3 seems to be shaping up pretty nicely with Microsoft's Geld

microsoft decided it was time to self indulge a little and buy themselves a present

in ages past great feudal lords would buy a horse, these days great corporations use tax loopholes to buy a bunch of indentured serfs from california

Codex polls can't be trusted because everyone can vote, even people who never post or only post in the decline sections. It's impossible both Twitcher 3 and Age of Decadence to be in the same spot or D:OS2 to be undisputed GOTY.

Yeah let's ignore the holy codex consensus for unreliable polls for stupid conclusions to the topic at hand! I'll be fun!

It's actually fun tho :P

Judging from these graphs, Codex favorite is always the game with the least pre-launch expectations. Dragonfall came after disappointing SR:Returns, no one took Larian seriously, Battle Brothers came out of nowhere.

But the more pre-launch hype, the more psychotic meltdowns after the launch.

Witcher 3 and dark souls had no pre-launch hype?

This is some retarded reasoning, but it's exactly my attitude towards Paranoia. Since there's not as much hype for it, i'm fully expecting it to be fantastic. I am an idiot.

While its writing may be cute, its repetitive combat encounters are available for all to see. Additionally, it's always a gamble with unknown eurodevs.
