Roguey you'll be satisfied with this review :P

Fast forward to like 16:10
Great! Now all the fps retards watching him will know that "cRPG" = Pillars of Eternity :D

If that will be the casei - it is a massive improvement in their knowledge ;)
And hey - at least Angry Joe is honest, he openly admits they both know shit about such games. But they met with that Josh guy, and that Josh guy has all the answers

In b4 "I saw it on AJoe and when it comes to consoles?!11!" threads on obsidian forum.

You are too picky, which considering all your PoE posts, and this being the codex, is a ridiculously obvious accusation to throw around.

Game looks good enough to make me not notice imperfections, which I guess is the point of it all.

Not picky at all here, still notice.

It's kind of when the combination of short characters, tall grass issues, blending with environment and overblown graphical effects makes you rather run away to combat log and play textual adventure there, for to better see what's going on. Then you start to notice things, first subconsciously, you wouldn't otherwise by just looking at game.

Of course the gameplay is bearable all right, but that's different to noticing.

Also the perfection is made of details. That's why we need the picky ones around.

Yes, next week.

finally some concrete info on stacking rules

rope kid said:
There's a glossary entry for Stacking, but the essential information is that there are four broad categories of bonuses: passive, active/modal, equipment, and weapons/shields.

Passive almost always comes from things like Abilities and Talents that you don't need to activate. All passive bonuses stack.

Active/modal abilities come from spells, Abilities, Talents, consumable items (potions, food), and resting bonuses that are activated and/or have a duration to them. The highest bonus from this group is applied. All others are suppressed.

Equipment is everything you don't put in your hand slots. Armor, hats, gloves, belts, books, cloaks/amulets, etc. The highest bonus from this group is applied. All others are suppressed.

Weapons/shields are just weapons and shields. All of these bonuses stack.

Food and inn bonuses are useful for long-term Attribute checks and Rite scrolls can be used for long-term Skill bonuses.
I have no idea about what spells and item boni the game will have.
Would +2 dex from spell, +2 dex from ring of dex and +2 dex from dagger of dex be possible? Would they stack?

"The game looks great! It looks a lot like Baldur's Gate. It has tons of monsters and like 150 maps! And storyboard style interactive cutscenes which is cool! And some Josh dude from Obsidian answered all of the questions! We didn't have any questions for Le Josh because we don't know jack shit about RPGs."

Exactly what I expected to hear from Joe and his sidekick. :M

Overall i think the game looks superior, in terms of fidelity, to the IE. In terms of aesthetics i think ToEE feels more natural and has better character models and proportionality to the environment.

Considering the size of the game, the budget and time frame with witch it was developed, i think it looks good and is an excellent base to work on for further 2D isometric games from Obsidian.

You can't get an attribute bonus from a weapon, so it would be +2 from Armor, +2 from Ring and +2 from a spell - they would all stack. +2 from an Amulet and +2 from a Ring would not stack.

I agree that it's a good base to build upon, but I think their current unit size demands larger areas. Certainly taller ones, anyway.

You don't have to be picky to notice that characters blend in way to much with the background. It isn't terrible, but still somewhat annoying. Same with the floating problem in certain areas.

edit: BTW based on this map, I now see how they 'gated' Twin Elms. Stormwall Gorge is flooded currently in the BB. Now I know when the flood clears ;)

It has been said the game has around 150 maps, and that it's very long, but an estimate in hours was never given as far as I know.

I always noticed the Dwarf morningstar clipping through the ground. Even tho it does not bother me much, it is very noticeable even when i just watched vids and never played the game. Feet i didn't notice.

I'm rly disappointed that as it turns out, the expansion is more like a DLC than a Throne of Bhaal-like expansion. The cost of the expansion was $15 and the base game $15 or $20, so I assumed it was a continuation of the story, not a Watcher's Keep type of thing... That was seriously misleading.

We're not actually sure yet. I was hoping for a Tales of the Sword Coast style one that added an extra quest hub to the base game, but that's just me. It may end up being a Heart of Winter style one yet, the wording was a bit unclear.

Hey Sensuki are there hks for the abilities, spells, etc? I asume not, since you do mostly everything with the cursor. Do we know if there will be any?

It's not gonna be a Heart of Winter-style expansion. Think Mask of the Betrayer/the four New Vegas DLC for an idea of what an Obsidian expansion looks like.

I think you can assign hotkeys to spells. In previous version, you could just hover over a spell and hit any keyboard key and that key was assigned to that spell, even if you didn't want that. And you couldn't unassign it.

Er, what's the difference?

MotB and the FO:NV DLCs aren't that similar either...

Well, I was replying more to this:

In terms of it not being just a dungeon crawl.

MotB and the FO:NV DLCs aren't that similar either...
They are in the sense of veering off in more interesting territory plot-wise (and even gameplay-wise to an extent).

Roguey, can you remember what Jsawyer said about this? Iirc he mentionned it will be bigger than a FO:NV DLC but smaller than MotB?
