Re: Pallegina, not sure I have much to add about her godlike status, but the game gives the impression that having to participate in all sorts of Vailian mercantile shenanigans (like the one involving Verzano and the Doemenels) is a big part of what's made her cynical about life.

Yeah, I get that she's discriminated against, the problem is that she basically blames fate and yells and rages at the darkness, with no clear goal or motivation. She hurls *personal* accusations against the gods, as if they constitute a philosophical position, but that can't be further from the truth. At the end, what does her character amount to? What and why is she doing whatever it is she's doing? Is her helplessness a part of her character? I don't get her or her place in the story.

I did not think highly about Pallegina's writing before but you humanised her in my eyes.

She doesn't get involved much in the story, one of the most isolated companions if not the most. If something to be questioned about her, I'd have started with her patriotism; where does her love for her country comes from while she'd never been allowed better options(or more than one option) for her life choices in that country?

Oh, don't get me wrong, Pallegina has always been one of the better written companions, the problem is that her themes and the issues her character brings up don't go anywhere. It's not about her not having justified opinions, it's that the lack of justification is not addressed. She does have potential, but it needs something more to justify her existence as a character, simply stating her opinions, no matter how correct or wrong, is not enough. Is her helplessness against fate a point of interest? Is her rage something that will consume her or would she triumph? If so, how? Is her defiant and personal tone hurled at the gods something she thinks she has earned due to the discrimination she has endured? Etc.

Poor Pallegina. She is a godlike, but the gods are a lie, nothing more than a construct of an ancient civilization. Imagine how she feels about the gods, knowing that she is just a joke of an extinct people.

As already stated, her opinions of the gods were already tainted before the reveal. And much like the real world, I think her first problems with them start with their followers.

The fact that we are celebrating New Year according to a calendar devised by a homophobic and patriarchal religion (of all things), is deeply problematic. It's basically rape, in other words.

I'm predicting that a 'Remove Gender Flags' mod will be the #1 most downloaded mod shortly after Deadfire's release. If those fan questions are an indication of PoE's fanbase, I guess Sawyer deserves more credit than I thought. While he may have failed to make a spiritual successor that satisfied fans of Baldur's Gate, he certainly seems to have succeeded in attracting fans of Bioware's other RPG's, the more degenerate part of the fan base, to be precise.

I also like how he makes it perfectly clear he thinks he is personally involved in the romance, so woe if he doesn't like the only gay dude of the bunch. That's weird. Stop being this kind of weird. Or he's "trying to fight stereotypes", but we all know that's not true, lol. You also won't dissolve if you see a vagina, dude, man up a bit.

Clearly you don't know what BG2's fanbase was like in that game's heyday; there was a heap of romance mods, fanfiction, and other stuff like that.

I'm pleased with Josh's words. It's good to know there are still developers who didn't toss their common sense yet. Regarding the context.

Um, he literally said, "each writer writes their character, and decides what kind of romances, if any, makes sense for that character."

Isn't that exactly what we want people to do, instead of filling some kind of gay quota or shoehorning shit in?

Sorry, Lacrymas was following up on a post of mine that I deleted. He's referring to the guy who asked the question, not to Josh.

Ah, good to see that discussions about PoE are still centered around what's most important: romances and gays.
Maybe Obsidian will finally achieve their dream and literally become Bioware instead of just pretending to be Bioware.

One guy asked JS on his tumblr about it.
There are pages and pages of talk about the alpha and other stuff.

There's also the fact that nobody is providing us with info about the new beta build, so we are latching onto trivial scraps.

Ah, fair enough, that's my reading comprehension.

I mean, yeah, Bioware style romances are basically a tier below soft-core porn paperbacks sold in train stations in terms of cheap gratifications. It's genius, in a way: Bioware unintentionally managed to activate this massive, desperate demographic for their products.

I heard on the Obsidian forums that the orlan baby has a portrait in the companions folder. Can somebody upload it?

They may be referring to this small portrait labelled "Vela":

There are a few other unusual portraits in the companions folder that don't have large versions either:

I see a Vithrak, a Xaurip and what I believe is one of the familiars used as security by the Archmage
