Did you fight getting there? Although I actually had some fights on the outskirts of the camp so maybe that does not matter.

I don't remember choosing any special options aside from the I'm a Watcher ones and mentioning the dreams you had.
It's possible to get to the tent without fighting?
So I guess Westgate and then sneaking? Hmm maybe I'll try that. Don't wanna fight that guy.

That's what I did. I got to the Westgate fighting like 3 or 4 people (talking to one of them too) and then stealthed my way there. Can't say for sure that it's why he did not want to fight me but it could be.
Umm, I guess your party had high stealth skills? Because in mine only Sagani has above 10, and I don't seem to find a way thorugh the guards once inside without being detected.

I don't remember exactly how I did it but I had two characters with 1 stealth. I think I found a door in the camp on a rampart near the north and that takes you right above the commanders tent and then you just walk down. I had to take my characters there one at a time. I probably could have done two but I was playing it safe.

Yepp, I still had to kill about maybe 5 inside the camp, but with the door and all I just managed to get the peaceful solution! Very nice, thanks! :salute:

Nice. I guess the game keeps track of how many you kill. I think the Ogre Matron quest does that too. Makes sense.

I googled the map to try and remember what I did and found out that you can use the White March Cannons to blow open the door in the camp. That's awesome. Did those in the reverse order.

guys is it possible to creat a pike and shot party?
like having 3 members at the front with pikes,1 with 2hander and 2 with arquebus?is it viable?

Would fit with the lore. But isn't it a pity to have all those spears if you don't have a tank in the first row.

I killed basically the whole camp to get there but still managed to negotiate a peaceful option. Tried sneaking a couple of times but couldn't sort out a route from the NW gate to the tent without being detected.

Was "realism" really the criticism of the stats? I was under the impression that things like e.g. Might were gamist, and it was unclear what the stat was supposed to represent with respect to the game world.

Yeah I didn't really get that either. I heard complaints about for instance Might (in particular) not really representing a tangible character trait (like Strength). I wouldn't call that lack of realism.

I'm asking it this way because I wouldn't put it past Neogaffers or Obsidian forums people to lodge the complaint in that manner. SA I really don't know about, but I'd guess they're in the same boat.

I can't believe that I just noticed that he used the Codex's "NO FUN" emoticon in his slides.

Surprise surprise, he was talking about his own ideological purity in that slide.

Wherein Josh Sawyer downplays Tim Cain's contributions to system design (!!!!!!!!!!!!!) http://forums.somethingawful.com/sh...=17931&perpage=40&pagenumber=13#post458346841

rope kid you can't just throw cool names all over the place with different languages and then not expect nerds to want a complete dictionary and grammar book, or at least a huge glossary.
The problem is that I'm not a linguist and can only mimic language concepts from languages I've studied to an extent. It works fine for all of our purposes but really building it out would require a dedicated resource. On PoE I was the world builder, lead designer, only system designer, and director. I didn't have time (or the academic chops, really) to dig deeper.

For a variety of reasons, it has been difficult to find dedicated system designers. I was the only system designer on Icewind Dale I & II and Fallout: New Vegas as well. Matt Sheets did junior system design work on the White March, which was a great help to me -- in part because in addition to the system design, I was responsible for the majority of non-programming system implementation, maintenance, and bug fixing.

So I guess you really can blame Josh for everything. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I thought that was obvious. He did however credit Tim Cain for helping him with implementation in the GDC talk.

wonder if we are going to get another update for PoE. Still don't understand why we don't have arrows or something showing when we are side scrolling like in IE games.

I was under the impression that Tim only designed the stronghold and something about the crafting system. Neither of which are particularly popular in these parts...

I'm not sure. Seems like people may have used "designed" and "implemented the design" interchangeably throughout the game's development, causing some confusion.

At one point, I thought Obsidian were using Tim Cain as the "front man" for representing the game's most controversial elements (like the Crafting/Durability skill if you remember that), to take the blame for them instead of Josh. :P

That does seem likely, yes.

In any case, I suppose it's always safest to blame Josh. He seems to be taking it in stride anyway...

I like the crafting system.

Not my favorite one, but it was still fun and strategic.
