Eh, I wouldn't say that POTD diff swings that much - there is some spike at the beginning, but around lvl 7-9 it flattens out and goes downhill from there, mostly due to spells you get around that time (confusion, devotions, some cipher ones etc etc). E.g. confusion and call to slumber trivializes all of the fights with ogre druid packs.

Beside WM dragon I can't recall any really tough/unfair fight tbh.

To be honest, I mostly avoid per rest spells much more than I should, unless it's a boss battle. I also tend to avoid campfires. So my play is a bit skewed. I had six campfires by the time I finished Durgan's Battery (two that I was carrying, and 4 more lying around inside the battery that I hadn't used). Even with the two rests I did, I was doing them because my party was dead. Aloth usually had half to 3/4 of his spells left.

I checked the flags, I had only upscaled White March, not Elmshore. So the Sky Dragon I was having difficulty with was actually just the normal PotD Sky Dragon. I thought I would give it another try, with a little more prep (setting up some consumables, swapping around a bit of the equipment), and she ended up doing while doing barely any damage at all to any of my characters? Everyone was still in the green, almost all the way up to the top of their health. I did a little prep and changed my tactics a little, but it didn't feel like that much of a difference for such a drastic change. One thing I noticed, though, was that the dragon kept targeting Eder, and never did a single breath attack, even when everyone was at a distance. Both of these things made the battle much easier, but I'd have to try the battle a few more times to tell if the different AI was just RNG luck or because of different equipment.

It's my second attempt at PoE (I gave up ~3/4 of the way through my first), and looking at my playthrough I started it almost 4 years ago. Maybe I'll finish it up next year if I have time.

All the files in my "\Pillars of Eternity\PillarsOfEternity_Data\assetbundles\prefabs\objectbundle" folder have the '.mainasset' suffix rather than '.unity3d' and as a result i can't install any mods. How do i fix this?

I know they released a patch a year ago on Steam (3.7.1.1411) that broke the IE mod. Probably broke others. The instructions for mods that you see probably all predate this patch.

Assuming you are on Steam you can right click on the program in the list on the left, then do Properties, then Betas, then Legacy to install 3.7.0.1318 which is the 2017 version that should work with all mods. You might have to uninstall first, I don't know. I was mid-game when this patch came out so I froze all updates to stop it breaking the game.

Overall, it's not a good game, but the highs it has is worth a playthrough.
I disagree, it is a very good game, notwithstanding its RTwP combat. Some companions are really interesting, others are annoying (that happens in every good family).

White March, in my opinion, is a very well crafted expansion.

There are almost no interesting things in the base game, everything that is worth playing came with the expansions. The base game is a slog with borderline awful writing that goes nowhere and I'd argue a lot of the encounters are not that great either.

Name me 5 games that we can all agree are better than Pillars 1 and that came out after the game was released.

Let's start and see where this goes. So much people give PoE so much shit here and forget that most crpgs have shit stories and are over bloated with text and unnecessary mechanical complexity.

PoE has awful story pacing, next to no notable characters, and bizarre design choices when it comes to mechanics. It starts out ok, but by the third act I was bored to tears and deleted it. It's about as engaging as NWN2 OC, the other only game by Obsidian I didn't bother to finish.

Good point. Can anyone remember a notable personality trait of Lady Webb (for example)? She's a major character in the story, and I can't remember anything about her except that she provides exposition. Why not exaggerate some of these characters so they stand out? Even if you make no changes to the story, people will say "Oh yeah, I loved talking to that NPC. He/she was a lot of fun." and it makes the prospect of replaying the game far more enticing.

The sheer amount of shit tasters on this thread is baffling, feels like a sadder version of bioware boards, less sweat on the aliens, more sweat on the players.

Pillows 1, 2, icewind dale 2, pentimenented, they are all utter shit. Worth a playthrough tho, but only if you into scat or are studying examples of what NOT to do in a game.

When you enter the 1st village and are accosted by that little big mouth Raedceras cock sucker and see the bodies hanging from the tree…. Very notable. It all goes downhill from there….

Atom
Atom Trudograd
Recon Control
Svarogs dream
Black Geyser: Hiting ass and cheeks
Kingmaker
Wrath
KotC2
King arthur
V rising
Underrail
Tunguska
Etc, etc etc.

The list is endless, even if we keep it to the west.

Pillars of eternity 1 is probably one of the worst rpgs ever made, by virtue of being uninteresting slop, add to that the fact that it was made with money that was supposed to be going towards a Baldurs gate spiritual succesor instead of "Josh Sawyer Pet Peeves: Fuck you pay pig".
