since you seem interested in talking about this game again recently.

I find discussing the failure of the combat system/design of this game often produces light bulb moments that will be useful in the future.

You mean the future when you again hallucinate that you're a developer, waste a year of your life thinking your opinions matter and get completely ignored?

edit: I think I get what you're saying but I think he's right about some of the stuff he said like lots of enemies being immune to Terrify and Sicken does make those Barbarian abilities less worth picking.
Than that is not a problem of immunities but how monsters are designed. For most of D&D history Rogue could not backstab many type of enemy. Didn't not make them less useful.

or lets put it another way. In NWN2 Obs decided to give all enemies their MAX HP. This made attack spells like Fireball almost useless. But didn't mean fireball was weak or wizard class sucked, it meant they fucked up monster design.

You ignored the rest of my point. Which was that no class was made weaker by immunities but maybe in what manner they were implemented. If most enemies are immune to fear that is a problem of monster design, not class balance. This part that guy does not understand.

I don't believe he explicitly said it was a class balance problem. He said that the implementation of affliction immunities screw with class balance (obviously due to how they were implemented).

That comes down to same thing in my book. And how much did he analyze the immunities to be able to claim there is a problem here? Maybe Obsidian did take care to have monsters not have overwhelming immunity to one effect.

They don't test these things. 2.0 patch was the supposed to be the biggest update, came with the expansion, etc and it had the blurry text bug that somehow they never noticed.

I'm not sure I understand you, but if someone is trying to draw a conclusion that since many enemies have the same immunity, then causing that affliction and taking talents/spells that cause it is useless, then they are wrong.

I was under a similar illusion when I was trying to figure out every enemy's worst DR and had arrived at the idea that I should only enchant weapons with fire, because on average, there are almost no monsters especially resistant to fire, while there are many which have lower DR vs Fire. So, go enchant with fire and you can't go wrong. But that was, well, wrong.

Instead of theorizing, playing the game is the best way of testing a hypothesis.

How is it best if you're against an enemy that doesn't have a weakness in DR vs Corrode? Zero difference.

In battle what matters is not the statistical mean, it's the chances with in the current environment. If one is a patient at the hospital and they tell him that people with his condition have 70% chances of survival, this wouldn't reduce his worrying about his personal chances.

I've heard some complaints about affliction immunities being too severe and the fighter boosts not being significant enough. I asked our internal testers, our external testers, and our QA community tester for feedback on both before and during the patch's beta and heard nothing negative. If it's a problem, we can adjust it during the next patch.

I'm aware of what they say, and they obviously make sure the game works (whatever that means to them), but nothing will convince me that they test these things enough. There really is no excuse for the blurry text and map getting past testers when it was the most important update and it would come along with the first DLC.

Well in the beta it was bleeding obvious that they didn't test stuff they said they tested.

twitter quotes

That's gold, although completely in line with the usual "yes man" theme of their QA. They promoted their best tester - Nick Carter, so ... (and even then, I've never been sure of what his actual gameplay preferences were, but he was definitely a switched on guy).

LoL.

I Liked this game, unlike some people. But it honestly melts my brain, watching them 6 months after launch, still vigorously changing the tiniest, irrelevant bullshit in the name of balance.

Just. Fucking. Stop. Nobody gives a shit.

i'm gonna make an sa account then, cos sawyer almost hit it perfect with the knockdown 20% dmg bonus, he just didn't fucking make te ability a full-attack.

right now it's a primary attack only, if it was a full attack it'd bump up fighters dps in a very reasonable way and make knockdown useful for any purpose, cc, dps, or whatever. give them a more active flair in combat. this is the key reason rogue abilities are so damaging, btw, they're all full attacks so shit doubles-down when they're utilized by a dual-wielding rogue.

full attack knockdown would open up very interesting dual-wield fighter build. ok, not very interesting, but um better? this would syngergize beautifully with their increased recovery time reduction from armored grace and being -20% recovery time. would make the dual wield fighter a tanky-as-fuck dual-wielding dps badass, but still not steal the dmg role from the rogue, as the rogue has many more additive dmg talents than the fighter and is the only one that can become a legit crit-build.

primary attack using wepaon. primary attacks don't use both weapons if the attacker is dual wielding. two attacks are made while dual wielding but the bonus from the ability is applied once, veruss being applied twice when the ability is a full attack.

also, i am now officially starting a game of subtle trolling on the PoE forums.

this is my first strike:

"why can't we wear two belts either ?? they managed to get that feature working in kingdom hearts just fine sora has tons of gear ARGH

come on OBSIDIAN JESUS "

on a thread about which NPC is the most caring to the PC:

"none of them can begin to compare to the tender sweetness and shakespearean depth of bg2 community/dev-sponsored npc project saerileth.

in fact, u can't even kiss the girls! not evne a peck on the cheek. jeeesus come on obsidian. sure, guns and murder for everyone but the true stuff of life, LOVE, can't be programmed in? instead they decide to make remakrs about pallegina's cloaca!!!!! OMG.

i just hope TWM 2 lets use have a house inside our stronghold where we can begin a caring relationship with a female of our choice (perhaps even GM too, even tho she is a spirit. but we're the Watcher so he'll find a way)

could buy/raise family units, etc, thru stronghold interface."
