What about games that looked like they were going to be awesome, but didn't get completed? Looking at you, Realms Beyond

I only played NumaNuma and the Pillars games out of this list, and Pillars weren't all bad.
NumaNuma though... wow. I joined this place a year or so after playing it and stil lwas angry enough to rant a few times.

Literally an anti-setting. Anything goes. Planescape is structured, in contrast. Oh and the "what does one life matter" question is lame.

If I had to choose the most disappointing, for me it would be the new Torment, closely followed by Fallout 3, and with FF7 Rebirth in 3rd place.

Early disappointments stick with you the most, for me it was Lionheart. Demo was very short, but character creation promised good or even great game. And then I played the full game and never backed any crowdfunded game once that became a thing, so at least something positive came out of this experience.

Lionheart was on my "to play" list.
Now I am not so certain anymore.

DARK SOULS 3

A sequel to the best game ever made, produced for a further generation console, what can go wrong? Just the same game with better graphics, right?

Right?

Grab the Codex by the pussy Divinity: Original Sin Torment: Tides of Numenera Shadorwun: Hong Kong Pathfinder: Kingmaker Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag. Pathfinder: Wrath I'm very into cock and ball torture
Ultima IX: Ascension is possibly the one true answer to this question

I second this. I also voted for Elder Scrolls: Oblivion and Fallout 3. I was a big fan of the first two Fallouts, but I really don't think Bethesda ever understood those games. There is humor in Fallout and especially in Fallout 2, but Fallout 3 leans into it too hard, and also takes fantasy ideas such as their Elder Scrolls vampires and tried to adopt them into Fallout 3.

My first Elder Scrolls game was Morrowind and I didn't expect to fall in love with it as hard as I did. Oblivion was a huge step down to me, as the setting was a vanilla fantasy one, the spells and skills were dumbed down, and the level scaling over the top. Such a let down.

If it's about the largest gap between expectations and reality, for me has to be DA2 and PoE1.
Yes, Fallout 3 was shit, but I never expected anything good from Bethesda (or a FPS Fallout) in the first place. So there was no big disappointment.

Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag.
Nothing in my life disappointed me as hard as Oblivion and nothing ever will. It single-handedly transformed me from optimistic teenager eagerly awaiting the future of gaming to a jaded old fuck pining for the good old days.
