They set the bar far too low at the beginning. Why only 1.1m?

Now they'll have to be satisfied with somewhere around 2m total-- instead of the 3-5 they probably could have had if they'd played their cards right.
They couldn't have asked much more, because a high number might have driven away some people. They look at a 3 million minimal pledge and they think, they will never make this much, so why should I donate?

Not really.

W2 got very close to 3 million.

They should have asked for 2 or 2.2 and use the same speech "in fact we need 2.5 million, but if we don't reach it, we'll inject from our own funds"
This would basically allow them to drop the needed bomb which made the codex whine like little bitches (only 3 races?! only 5 companions?!)

I mean that there are still people who doubt kickstarter, and if they see too big of a number, they might think that they won't make it anyway, so why donate. Better to start small and build up donations during the month.

Not sure why so many people fail to just concede that despite the hype-buildup previously and a very good start they failed at keeping the momentum.
As some people said the start and the end of a campaign are the most important parts, and they could have fixed this by just a few days spent planning and pre-writing some updates and drawing some pretty pictures, one would guess that if they have ever laid eyes on some of the successful KickStarters they would have gotten that by now. Instead they let some guy that nobody knew write down uninspiring "goals" in plain text. What could have potentially been the largest funded KickStarter so far is maybe just about to replicate Double Fine's success. And as people have said Fargo was out and about everywhere on the Net giving Interviews and throwing stones, yet with ~4-5 known personalities within their teams there have been a total of what, 3 Interviews so far and they're rather slow on Information too.

It's more disappointing than anything else, because I would've really loved to see what they could do with 5 Million instead of the 3 they will likely be able to barely reach if this goes on.

Good ideas and there are more in this thread. And I'm wondering if someone from Obsidian is reading this, cause they should.
Also, I cannot stop thinking about Fargo: that weasel was on all sites hyping his game. He knew what to say and when to say it. He kept the flame alive for the entire campaign. And maybe he should step in a little bit and give a helping hand to these guys.

"Weasel"? Without Brian Fargo there'd be no Fallout or Planescape: Torment. Give the man some respect.

Why do you think I don't respect the man?

Because we're not delusional.

I'm tired of teaching people basic math. We'll see in the end whether they "barely reach 3 million".

One of the programmers on Project Eternity is currently doing an AMA at Reddit, and there are some interesting tidbits there. In particular, I want Zed to read the following snippet because this seems like what he was curious about earlier:

On the game: Have you guys started coding and making the game come to life, or are you still just getting the design docs and pre-production stuff finalized?

I've got a prototype of the game running on my machine. It doesn't look anything like it will eventually, but all the stuff under the hood is coming together! The design team is still working on all the details, but I've been here long enough to know the things they will definitely need.

Shut the fuck up if you don't know what are you talking about. Their first day was better than Wasteland 2 and almost as good as Double Fine's. They are keeping a 100K/day income rate so far, which is better than DF or W2. Also, Fargo started the heavy PR stuff after a few days. Eternity's kickstarter is not even out for 5 days. Every major project's pledges will decline after the early rush. You don't really think that they could have sustained their initial rate, do you?

Can it be? Is this truly the age of :incline: coming to a head at last?
Yeah, it's coming and will be gone just as fast as most of those kickstarter bandwagon games turn out to be bad and people stop caring about RPGs again.

Everyone that has been playing video games for a little while knows that this sort of hypefest always end up badly.

A good KickStarter isn't as much about math and pure numbers, as it is about creating enthusiasm about the project and not letting people the time to think things through while keeping the hype level high, both Schafer and Fargo managed this well with their "rebirth of Adventures/RPGs" events. Obsidian probably did the start with the countdown and speculation (what was it, like a news every day on the good ol' Kodex?) the best of all of them, but again instead of keeping that momentum and people engaged they ruined it with a big wet fart shortly after they reached their goal, despite having about double the amount of backers that Wasteland 2 had and a lot more money in the first two, they've managed to drop below that on the third day. I'm not sure ytf you people are allergic to just admitting that.

This is how they could've announced their "Stretch goals" instead: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects...nihilation-a-next-generation-rts/posts/293648

They are not using Onyx. Other than this, there isn't new info.

I still think that they did OK. They made their updates in time (not later then DF, W2), and even though their stretch goals were not stellar, it was decent. And as I said, they are keeping the momentum (100K/day, which is huge), which is a big thing compared to previous projects. And if they can keep this rate, they will break a record among the KS games.

WTF with the J-C fanboy shit? Most of us want this game to do well, but the hiveresque shit posts from him lately are an embarrassment. Goddamn man, use your head a little more.

As far as enemy AI goes, in top down RPGs like this, the enemies don't typically need to be very sophisticated. The challenge usually comes from their stats (how hard they hit, how many hit points they have, etc) and what types of attacks they use.
