The player witnesses an extraordinary and horrific supernatural event that thrusts them into a unique and difficult circumstance. Burdened with the consequences of this event, the player has to investigate what has happened in order to free themselves from the restless forces that follow and haunt them wherever they go.

The obsidian forum has been brought to its knees once again. I like the story 'setup'. It could result in an interesting story. The whole update sounded good actually.

Josh,

Even if everything goes completely wrong with this game I want you to know I think you are a true bro who really cares and really tries. That is all.

Update looks good. I was already willing to bet money on six-person party, but having it confirmed is good.

Really glad to see PC/NPC difference is not limited to race (more akin to 'species' on a social level there), but that multiple cultures are being developed as well. The story starting point is vague enough that it could go either way, but from the fact it's Obsidian, the story and characters are not on my list of things to worry about. Certainly has potential; I hope they avoid it degenerating into a cliched "save the world" festival. (Nothing inherently wrong with saving the world, but it's overplayed and the build-up to that situation for the PC usually rapes suspension of disbelief in all available holes and carves out a few new ones to boot. If a clear, logical and interesting escalation of circumstances leads there, so be it. If we play the Hackneyed Chosen One of Some Sort of Mystical Birthright Seeing Some Wacked-Out Shit Go Down, a resounding "meh" shall be overheard across the ennui-stricken land)

Honestly its starting to sound like a mash-up of Torment/MoTB in both theme and style. I'm just now re-installing my NWN stuffs for the first time in half a decade and forgot how detailed character creation is...if this new game's character creation is set up like a NWN game I will be a happy lad.

They set the bar far too low at the beginning. Why only 1.1m?

Now they'll have to be satisfied with somewhere around 2m total-- instead of the 3-5 they probably could have had if they'd played their cards right.

People said the exact same thing about Wasteland 2 - which received pledges at a far slower pace. They were wrong.

The difference is that nobody knows who the fuck Brian Fargo is, or what Wasteland was. They know Obsidian; Avallone; Fallout; Kotor-- and the rest.

Yes. Because 1.5 million in 3-5 days, when they have 31 days total is nothing.

Wasteland 2 did have a insanely clever ploy to suddenly drop that Chris Avellone bombshell just as the money really started to slow down.

I'm not sure what Obsidian can do to pull off a similar bombshell when they already have Chris Avellone on the team.

George Ziets would help but I don't know if he's quite as popular even he's comparable in talent.

They'll bring Brian Fargo into the team, obviously. :smug:

I never said it was nothing.

But that they won't get more than Brian Fargo-- who NOBODY had ever heard of-- and who made Wasteland -- a game that almost NOBODY had ever heard of, because Obsidian insists on some sort of shrinking violent notions-- am I really that pretty?-- about themselves is fucking dumb.

Bleh. Monday morning quarterbacking is dumb, too.

Cool story bro.

I wonder how they all missed:

They couldn't have asked much more, because a high number might have driven away some people. They look at a 3 million minimal pledge and they think, they will never make this much, so why should I donate?
