In terms of the blank looks: the key thing to remember is that while those gamers rule the mainstream (and, perhaps also the "art-house indie") market, I am not persuaded that they are the dominant force on Kickstarter. Rather, with a few exceptions, Kickstarter seems to reward projects that persuasively invoke 80s-90s game nostalgia. Within that set, people may not know Ishar but they'll certainly know Eye of the Beholder.
