I don't understand why they put in the effort to "painstakingly recreate the graphics" if the result is those blurry sprites. I play the game on an iPad, and it's an o.k. port, but the character sprites are really ugly and don't fit in with the background graphics.

I mean, you still bought it so there's clearly some appeal to it. At least platform-wise.

I'm guessing they wanted to make as much money as quickly as possible with low risks. Take note of the other Final Fantasy mobile games (V and that one you have to pay like 15 bucks for that's only on mobile), and notice how similar they are to the VI port. My best guess is that they needed to scale properly for different resolutions but didn't actually want to pay anything noticeable for re-doing anything. They're not blind, I bet they can tell how bad it looks too.

Or not. Maybe they actually like the bad filter look.

Grandia https://steamdb.info/app/289860/ (The entry is old but recently updated. Maybe recent Grandia 2 release affected it. There's also an entry named "Lunar" associated with this.)

Gung-Ho twitter account responded to the leak:

On an unrelated note, I wonder what are these listings.

SEGA Mega Drive - Dev App https://steamdb.info/app/400670/
Sega Mega Drive Workshop Tool https://steamdb.info/app/400690/

SEGA is selling Sega Genesis/Mega Drive games (with awful front-end interface) on Steam from years ago, but these entries are recently created. Maybe more MD games and/or improved emulator interface?

Idea Factory International president explains why simultaneous release on console and Steam is difficult for them: http://www.rpgsite.net/interview/46...steam-otome-games-and-the-topic-of-censorship

RPG Site: How has Steam as a platform been treating you? We had three more games (Hyperdimension Neptunia U, Hyperdevotion Noire, and Monster Monpiece) announced for the service during the event. Do you see more of a simultaneous release happening going forward?

President Akenaga: To answer your question as to how it’s doing [on Steam], it’s been doing really well. As far as the simultaneous release is concerned, it’s really different. Idea Factory in Japan is a developer that’s focusing on Sony consoles. To do the games, Idea Factory works on those systems. Idea Factory International, sort of a separate identity, we do the ports to PC. To do [a simultaneous release] we would have to get with the developers to analyze it and re-release it on PC. It’s a little difficult.

RPG Site: XSEED Games had basically the same comment. They have a couple people doing the port.

President Akenaga: The problem is that the market in the US and Japan are totally different. The Vita in Japan is still totally alive because it is a country that does a lot of traveling. People aren’t nice to the PC or the Xbox.

---

And XSEED added two unknown and recently created apps (427680, 427700) to their Steam master package: https://steamdb.info/sub/13578/apps/

What could these be? TitS TC? Ys Seven? Or another Marvelous game?

Atlus, you reading this? Why do you hate making money?

Unlike Sega and Square, there is room for them to fall.

Atlus actually tries to foster a reputation for being a company that is responsive to its fans. If they started releasing their backlog on Steam it would eventually create the expectation that big games like Persona 5 would be released on the platform, which Atlus may not be able to easily accomplish depending on their relationships with Sony and other publishers. Then fans would start getting pissed that the company is treating them unequally to other platforms because they aren't getting all the releases even though the hardware capabilities of PC vastly exceed those of consoles. Thus letting Atlus fans on PC "FEEL" down to their bones how much Atlus prioritizes its relationship with Sony over its relationship to its PC fans.

Gamers are very sensitive to issues of "fairness" across platforms and don't like being slighted. If Atlus only releases specific franchises on specific platforms, then these issues of "fairness" never arise and its popularity remains unscathed.

Of course they don't like money, specially one from Europe. Just check release date of their games there.

Some of their best games: SMT Strange Journey and Etrian Odyssey 3, are still import only. :negative:

At least these two are on DS which is not region locked. Could be much worse like SMT4 on region locked 3ds.

One Way Heroics is great, the recent Plus enhanced edition even better still---it'll be interesting to see exactly how Mystery Chronicle diverges from Plus really.

Director/Scenario Writer is known to produce mainstream titles, so game may turn out to be like Fire Emblem Awakening/Fates...
