I never had an opinion on whether stealth crouching is a good feature or not, but I think this reveals that when developers say they're "modernizing" something, it's code for "do what everyone else is doing". Because they lack the courage to stand apart, or the imagination to come up with their own solutions .

This time it has to be different.

I hope this time when Ashley invites you over to her house, you can accept.

Other than that, I don't see anything glaringly bad in the trailer (besides the voice-acting, yeesh). Cautiously optimistic.

I was annoyed to see a 'shooting corridor with convenient waist-high cover' at 1:23, and 'shoot the red barrels' a few seconds later. Can we still not do better than this?
Not saying it looks truly awful but ....

Except that we all already played the game.

I'd rather play a decent remake of RE4, which I consider probably the best over-the-shoulder survival horror game (or in less restrictive terms, the best 3rd person shooter), than whatever new garbage gets shoveled out year after year.

Wasn't that in the original? I remember shooting a lot of barrels in RE4. The problem with remakes is that players expect certain elements to return from the first game.

Looks like they're adding a lot of new stuff, and Luis seems to be a bigger part. Maybe there will be innovative elements? I wouldn't hold my breath for that though.

Imagine if we got something new with that kind of mechanics instead :negative:

Someone told me you can play this with the old soundtrack. Has Capcom confirmed that?

To be honest it's been what? 15+ years since I played the original? I think I replayed it somewhere in between too, maybe 10 years ago. I do remember some excellent highlights for sure, but these ain't them. :)

Yeah, that area he’s complaining about is the island section people were thinking would be cut.

Luis seems to be in the game so much more now, it has me wondering if there’s going to be an optional co-op mode. In the original game I’m pretty sure Luis dies before you get to that boss fight with the two El Gigante they showed in this newest trailer.

Are you seriously asking this? Yes, there will be the original soundtrack. Of course. AS PAID DLC. Just like with RE2 Remake. It's a lazy asf scam which they were greately rewarded for, so I can't think of why they wouldn't do it again.

he's a test version of Sheva's AI for the inevitable RE5 remake

Because they didn't do it for RE3. That's why I'm having trouble believing the guy.

The trailer looks like a marvel movie! I hope the RE4 fans are happy with what's been done to this franchise. They didn't give a shit that the RE2-3 remakes were an unfaithful mess, because those were never their favorite games to begin with. Now they'll be playing RE4 remake and telling themselves how amazing it is despite the controls not being the same and there being a plethora of content that's either missing or watered down or changed for no reason other than laziness. No surprise, as they never had any standards to begin with. All they want is "MORE LEON!" and "MORE ADA!", nothing else matters.

I rewarded RE2 Remake by pirating it. But I don't even want to do that for this game, even if I had a gpu to run it. I'll stick with the original this time.

I was thinking about a RE5 remake. That could potentially be there most interesting remake. There’s a whole lot of stuff they had planned for Resident Evil 5 that they ended up dropping during development.

The original version sounded much bigger. Stages were originally going to be designed with underground areas to get around shit. There were huge war zones sections. There was this whole system (a light survival system) where you’d need to find shelter from the intense heat and stay hydrated or else you might start having hallucinations...Chris would tan when in the sun too long. I’m pretty sure the first trailer opening with Chris being blinded by the sun, and how it played up light and shadows was a hint at the cut system.

There were also way more enemies. Even in the extended version of the second trailer you can see they wanted more enemies than the final version had. That second trailer also showed off Chris doing stuff that’s similar looking to moves they’d give you in RE6, but he seems to be able to do even more in that second trailer for RE5. Some of the stuff they had planned for RE5 almost sounds like a cross between what they did make, and Metal Gear Solid V, 5 years later. Some smaller version of what they had planned seemed to make it into RE6.

Okay, I see the "original ver. soundtrack swap" now, in the deluxe edition. I would have bought it if it had been available that way for RE3, which I guess they skipped because they didn't care enough about that game. Sleezy as this practice is, RE2 was unplayable without that DLC. The new music was so bland with its lack of melody and distinctive sound. I'll just wait even longer before I play it.

One interesting thing that was supposedly confirmed time ago (But I didn't believe) is that the game has no QTEs like the original. Everything goes around the new parry mechanic and the new melee combat system. The first Krauser fight seems like a regular boss fight instead of a cutscene, which is great IMO.

They have shown a lot: Basically the village-castle-island structure still in the remake. Also, Luis is still alive during the mine section (I guess he will die in the last castle section, and then some coop sections will be on the island with Ada instead of him).

I wonder how much they were just downplaying the bombast of the original game in previous showing of this game. Because this new trailer specifically seems designed to tell people this remake will also be crazy. The whole trailer is built around shit people were thinking the remake might cut for tone. People were wondering about the Island, they showed the Island. People were wondering about Krauser, they showed Krauser. (They also showed the QTE Krauser fighting is now an actual boss fight...which is what I figured they’d do) People were worried they might cut the crazier CQC QTE moves, they showed Leon doing a suplex. The mine cart section here seems to be adding bombast, it’s more crazy and more Temple of Doom like then it was in the original game. People have been worried they’d tone Leon down, and maybe they have, but the Luis stuff they showed in this trailer would seem to indicate the team has no problem action movie hero comedy stuff with Leon from the original RE4.

The suplex does have me wondering how they'll handle that this go around. In the original game, I think you unlocked moves on some invisible background system. I don’t remember how it worked, but I don’t think you just got the suplex, it was attached to something working in the background like kills or something. I wonder if they’ll do it the same way here, or if they’ll just let you unlock them yourself in some way. Because it’s something you buy in some manner, they could have whole new moves in this game for you to unlock.

Krauser is no longer buff and his voice isn't as chadish as it was in original :decline:

there was no such thing as unlockable moves in the OG re4, it's just certain moves (like suplex) were impossible to do on ganados, you'll have to do them on castle cultists or island militia.

I could’ve sworn the shift to the suplex was related to some behind the scenes thing similar to the invisible difficulty adjustment thing.

I was thinking Krauser looked smaller, but looking at his original character model during that moment now I’m not so sure. His face seems longer (and maybe thinner) now though, which makes look smaller in those close ups; but I’m not so sure he’s less buff.

Krauser's original design is better though. The changes, especially the costume design changes, just seem like changes made to change it as opposed to make it look better.

Didn’t notice it was infinite ammo. Unless they’re just throwing tons of enemies at you there that seems kind of weird. What they did show the the trailer is very different looking from the mine cart section in the original game. Although you could take most enemies out in the original with a single shot in the mine cart section, so ammo wasn’t exactly a worry there.
