Make the Codex Great Again! Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag. I helped put crap in Monomyth
how come virtually everyone in here praising this demake are the same people that shill for troons, '''''''f*male codexers'''''', the latest thing, ukraine, the vax, etc?

curious
Why is it that you come here to push narratives instead of talk about games?

the remake is pushing a narrative and so talking about the people pushing the game that is pushing the narrative is talking about the game

Enough with the fucking remasters already.
Gmanlives can be a real shill, as he has demonstrated on many different occasions.
Absolutely sick of "remasters"...

Twitter getting mad about this video is pretty hilarious. It’s a pretty innocuous video, and I’d imagine in a year or twos time a lot of people bitching about it will be like: Yeah, those thing were better in the original. I’m sure the title alone just turned a lot of people’s brains off.

Some of comparisons are also just completely inarguable too. Like you could chalk up the art direction to personal preference. You can even do that with some (but not all) of the direction and staging of the cutscenes. But nobody is going to look at a comparison between the death animations (even if you like the new eye one) and honestly say the largely less violent ones of the Remake are better. The death animations being toned down is actually a little weird given Resident Evil 7 brought violence back to the series, and the remake of 2 was largely pretty violent too. This Remake of 4, and the original 4 was the last of the violent Resident Evils before 7, almost feels like we got the censored Japanese version. Like the new chainsaw kill would be pretty cool if it split Leon like he was the T-1000 or Ben Bertolucci in RE2, but it doesn’t.

Someone has mentioned DMC5 art direction and genreal graphics have aged badly and its the same engine. i havne't played since release but didnt dmc5 sell well? yet no dmc6 lol

Devil May Cry 5 (which is a whole different team) still looks good. Devil May Cry 5 also looked vastly better than the Resident Evil games on RE Engine that came out before it and around the same time. The DMC5 team did their face scans at a different, better place, (they talked about it in one of their streams) and it really shows when you look at it next to RE2R (which came out the same year) and RE7.

Last I looked Devil May Cry 5 is now Capcom’s 10th best selling game. It’s right under Street Fighter 5, although Street Fighter 5 has been on sale for 7 years.

The Devil May Cry 5 team is working on Dragon’s Dogma 2. Although even if Capcom did have another team working on a DMC6, I wouldn’t expect to have seen anything of it yet. DMC5 came out in 2019, and Covid fucked up games development in 2020. As an example, you look at the leak from 2020 and it has Capcom looking to release this game during Q4 of last year, and Street Fighter 6 (which comes out later this year) during Q3 of last year. We might also get a new Resident Evil next year.

I can’t remember, but “Hank” may have been cancelled. And Outrage was cancelled. But maybe it was only the Outrage game that got canned.

One of the two that hasn’t come out yet might be the Resident Evil Switch game that’s reported to be in-development. Talk of the Switch timed exclusive started far enough back that it’s likely on that leak list. We’ll probably have to wait until June to see more from that list get revealed.

I think Outrage was the switch-exclusive game. It was supposed to be a RE1-2-inspired old-school survival horror set in a zombie-infested medical university, with Rebecca as the protagonist.

I hope it's not actually cancelled.

I wasn't aware of that. I also hope that hasn't been cancelled, as it sounds amazing.

The butthurt is out of this the world. It's clear that while technically it's an okay remake, it does miss a lot of things. Obvious things as well, like the censored parts. It went from campy fun to something serious... and boring?

Edit:

And making Leon a simp is unforgivable.
The cinemafication of video games.
Said this in a Tomb Raider thread, but most developers/publishers don't understand movies and the original RE4 came closer than any modern AAA game of your choice. A good movie director would do everything they could to make some character's climb up a perilous mountain suspenseful, but in a "cinematic" modern game the developers keep the player from falling with magnetic walking and invisible walls and give them lots of automatic checkpoints, removing their fear. (How about sections where the rocks slide away under the player character's feet?) They also take them out of the experience by repeating the same canned "cinematic" animations over and over, like the character squeezing between walls or hanging on with one arm as they briefly turn their head at the long fall below. It all reminds them that it's orchestrated. Good movies try to avoid that.
Your post reminded me of that Rich Evan video where they talked about fake tension and how climbing is similar to a walking simulator. There is no skill involved.

They didn't play the multiplayer nor survival mode.

Modes so few people cared about that Naughty Dog didn't even push the developer to include them in the PlayStation 5 and Windows ports. (Then again, they didn't push for the first three games either, believing new players would want to skip straight to the new.) I've had my PS4 for five years and only paid for multiplayer for about a month. Remember the survival mode having a lot of bloated hit points and multiplayer being poorly balanced.

Survival mode only has bloated hit points when you're low level. Also these modes were popular, just like Factions in TLOU was popular (still is) but for some reason Sony didn't include it on Part 1 remake.

So, are they remaking RE5 next, and if so, do they have any intention of making it not shit this time around?

Man that UI is atrocius
I specially can't take my eyes of that monstrous clock, seems like something out of a mobile game
Also Hunk's neckbreaker looks so silly now

Also, why is Ada constantly showing up to try and steal the sample of whatever horrible thing is turning people into monsters at the end of every game? G virus, plaga parasite, is she collecting these things?
She's a mercenary that steals bioweapons for however pays her best

are they remaking RE5 next
Capcom as hinted it yes
do they have any intention of making it not shit this time around?
No because RE5 is already good
If anything it's more likely its remake will be the one to suck

A few things I've noticed about this "Remake" (imo "Reimagining" would be the appropriate term):
- first concerning the gameplay is the fact that there seems to be inertia to Leon's movement, meaning even compared to RE6 this game's controls aren't precise
- the shotguns seem they can't stun multiple enemies, that leads me to assume that this game's combat just isn't as suited toward "mob combat" as RE4 and RE5 are
- because of the change in camera and the less "restrictive" movement, the remake lost that tension the original played with of the player always worrying about what could be behind is back or even at his sides
- the art direction seems to have taken a hit, the castle is perhaps the clearest example, in the original the castle was (barring the "dungeon" section) very well lit and pristine, here however the castle is quite gloomy and decayed

Yeah, what is Hunk doing after breaking neck, saying "Vuala" to the audience? Super gay.

Yeah, the timer UI is a mess.

Character levels suck. Get them out of my shooters and multiplayer.

The empty headed contrarianism of this place (and that video) is a sight to behold. Old = good, new = bad is virtually the entire extent of any and all criticisms made by the Codex.
I'm not even a fan of Resident Evil and haven't played RE4 yet, and even for me it was immediately recognizable due to the Censorship, dialogue changes and a bunch of choice changes that were obvious around release that they're going for an entirely different mood and atmosphere and that the Original is the one to go for when I get to play RE4.

It's the equivalent of say Remaking "From Dusk Till Dawn", while removing all the iconic lines about "pussy shopping" and most of the other dialogue that could "offend" anyone, replacing the table dance scene and remaking all the action scenes to turn them into blockbuster shit. Then claiming that "it's just the same, bro. lol, what's the issue?"

It must require a lot of cognitive bias for actual fans to persuade themselves that the Remake is "better". Deep down they seem to know though and are in denial about it. There's no other explanation to reconcile the overreaction to a simple YouTube video not actually making any statements, but simply comparing the Original and Remake side by side. He didn't even say which one has the "soul" and now he even changed the title to "Resident Evil 4 Remake is a masterpiece". Yet somehow everyone, including the "haters" immediately knew what he was referring to and the footage seems to speak for itself.

The 'censorship' and dialogue changes that has the Codex up in arms is minor stuff to everyone who aren't trapped in the edgelord bubble that this place has turned into.
So the game doesn't have Luis' "Ballistics" line or Leon getting sawed in half by a chainsaw or some other 'essential' thing from the original. Okay. At best, these are minor gripes. But then everyone here turns them into major issues and acts like the rest of the world is 'blind' for not giving a fuck about them. All the while completely ignoring how genuinely well crafted and impressive the rest of the game is.

And it's the same with every fucking thread about a new video game here. It's just a bunch of angry people honing in on anything they can find that justifies being mad at the new popular thing. You can guess exactly what goes on in each thread without even clicking it.
It's not cool, it's not counter culture, it's not cutting edge criticism. It's just one sided and predictable.

Maybe if you only view the threads about current thing goyslop. Many of the indie or lesser known titles have fair threads with creators that aren't cutting harmless jokes that are perceived as problematic by modern standards.

People will stop reacting this way when devs/publishers stop reworking games for a modern audience™. It's the same with books and movies, and the only reason anyone would be against this reaction is if they are on the progressive train. What's the point of removing humor and making Leon a simp? Because it's sexists? So damn lame.

But enjoy the neutered stuff!

You mean as one-sided and predictable as Modern Remakes or Reboots (which seem to be like 80% of Modern AAA gaming output, since they are in obvious steep decline) that should be easy enough to do faithfully since you're working off of something that worked and is generally beloved, instead being sanitized for "Modern audiences" by removing iconic lines and jokes people are still remembering and repeating/making Memes about 20 years after the initial release and race-swapping or ugly-fying half of the Original cast, not to mention just generally artistically shittier? (see recent 40 minute video as reference) Is that "cool" and "counter culture"? And this isn't reserved to video games, but equally true for most movies and TV series nowadays (which have their own threads) with Capcom by far not being anywhere near the worst example since it's still a Japanese company and they aren't laying it on as thick as their Western counterparts. Although we'll likely see this more clearly with the Remake of "Resident Evil 5", if there will be one.

I mean, why even change something as innocuous as this?

You can guess exactly what goes on in each thread without even clicking it.
Do you think people at this point need to click on a thread to guess what the newest Western Blockbuster AAA Remake or BioWare/Obsidian/Arkane etc. "product" will be like or what the newest Netflix adaptation is about? Do you honestly think it still comes as a big surprise to anybody? The only reason there's even still a debate here is because this is a Japanese production and people generally still expect more/better from them.

- the shotguns seem they can't stun multiple enemies, that leads me to assume that this game's combat just isn't as suited toward "mob combat" as RE4 and RE5 are
it depends on what kind of shotgun are you using - riotgun has a very narrow spread cone and thus more suited for dealing direct damage against stronger foes, striker has a wide pellet spread and can stun multiple enemies in one shot, starting shotgun can stun multiple enemies but only if they stand close to each other.

- the art direction seems to have taken a hit, the castle is perhaps the clearest example, in the original the castle was (barring the "dungeon" section) very well lit and pristine, here however the castle is quite gloomy and decayed
that's not what art direction means. The new castle is darker and more decayed on purpose.
