The butthurt is out of this the world. It's clear that while technically it's an okay remake, it does miss a lot of things. Obvious things as well, like the censored parts. It went from campy fun to something serious... and boring?
I don't know if there's some glitch that's only affecting some people or if the people saying it's fine is a coordinated cope campaign but even with maxed sound settings I felt the game's ambience and ganados dialogue was fairly quieter than the original while the actual characters dialogue and combat sounds were fine. It was something that was bothering me before the Crowbcat video even came out as I still haven't taken the time to watch it.
that's just a different approach to the soundscape. The OG RE4 was a very "gamey" game, and wanted its sound effects to be distinct so the players could use it to keep track of their surroundings. The specific lines ganados were saying arer actually signals (the most famous example is "detras de ti, imbecil" when there's an enemy behind you). Same with other sound effects, armaduras and el gigantes all have thumping footsteps so the player could hear whether they are behind him or not.
Since remake's Leon can move while shooting and the player has more control over game's camera, the game no longer needed to sound distinct. Devs also added Leon's in-game quips which (together with Ashley's screams) drown out all other sound effects when playing.
Remake's theme. For the most part it's really different because remake uses dynamic music (the game stitches the background music from small pieces depending on what's currently happening on screen, whether there are enemies around, etc). OG's motiffs kick in at 1:01 and 2:40.
Remake's theme (actual fight theme starts at 1:20)
I tried playing with OG sound effects and music, and it didn't really change the vibe tbh. Some of the older tracks are also less memorable than the new ones. Shooting range, El Gigante duo, Salazar's theme, minecart ride - all are better in the remake.
Lots of the ganados voice lines still are signals, about things they are about to do in that moment.
The enemy voices are way better in terms of quality and fidelity. My favourite ones are the zealots, they are way more creepier on the remake. The rocket launcher guys from the island sound pretty comical though.
PD: Did the guy actually change the video title? Lmao, what a pussy.
The empty headed contrarianism of this place (and that video) is a sight to behold. Old = good, new = bad is virtually the entire extent of any and all criticisms made by the Codex.

I'm not even a fan of Resident Evil and haven't played RE4 yet, and even for me it was immediately recognizable due to the Censorship, dialogue changes and a bunch of choice changes that were obvious around release that they're going for an entirely different mood and atmosphere and that the Original is the one to go for when I get to play RE4.
It's the equivalent of say Remaking "From Dusk Till Dawn", while removing all the iconic lines about "pussy shopping" and most of the other dialogue that could "offend" anyone, replacing the table dance scene and remaking all the action scenes to turn them into blockbuster shit. Then claiming that "it's just the same, bro. lol, what's the issue?"
It must require a lot of cognitive bias for actual fans to persuade themselves that the Remake is "better". Deep down they seem to know though and are in denial about it. There's no other explanation to reconcile the overreaction to a simple YouTube video not actually making any statements, but simply comparing the Original and Remake side by side. He didn't even say which one has the "soul" and now he even changed the title to "Resident Evil 4 Remake is a masterpiece". Yet somehow everyone, including the "haters" immediately knew what he was referring to and the footage seems to speak for itself.

Said this in a Tomb Raider thread, but most developers/publishers don't understand movies and the original RE4 came closer than any modern AAA game of your choice. A good movie director would do everything they could to make some character's climb up a perilous mountain suspenseful, but in a "cinematic" modern game the developers keep the player from falling with magnetic walking and invisible walls and give them lots of automatic checkpoints, removing their fear. (How about sections where the rocks slide away under the player character's feet?) They also take them out of the experience by repeating the same canned "cinematic" animations over and over, like the character squeezing between walls or hanging on with one arm as they briefly turn their head at the long fall below. It all reminds them that it's orchestrated. Good movies try to avoid that.

Shills are getting mad because the original still exists and the remake hasn't entirely supplanted. Otherwise you can't explain them becoming so mad at simply seeing footage of the original.
"You guys still have the original, nobody wants to remove it from existence" has always been bullshit. Like gamergate, "nobody's coming for your games", yeah, right.
This reveals the seemingly innocuous ideological push of remakes, which is rewriting and removing the past. Something the guys on certain ideological spectrum love to do.
The original game is a more "cinematic" experience than the remake. It's filled with over the top, hollywood style cinematics and QTEs everywhere. The remake is actually more grounded, with a lot of stuff happening during the gameplay itself.
A quick comparison: The "Gigante" first appearance. In the original he's unleashed by a bunch of villagers, who get slaughtered by him in a pure popamole cutscene. In the remake, a red cultist seems to do something to him, and he escapes breaking the door of the cave, in a simplistic way. But the thing doesn't ends here. When you kill him, you're allowed to enter his cave (Which is impossible to do in the original) and find some goods. You can find a document file that hints that "Gigante" might be a baby/young child inflicted with a special plaga. The document also gives some lore, explaining that the villagers couldn't feed him properly due the famine, and they were forced to ask the castle for aid. The cultists "casted a spell", making him sleep. The red cultist that you see in the cinematic is the one who controls the monster, and it doesn't ends here either: This concept of "awakening/enraging the plaga" is actually used later as an in-game mechanic, when you face those same red cultists in the castle. They turn the zealots into monsters inmediately, stunning you in the process.
This are the small things that are making me like the remake.

I was actually thinking of Uncharted when I mentioned the character hanging on with one arm as they look down at the drop below. Happens a bunch of times in the series. I would have liked Previously Recorded to continue for more videos like that, but with how homogenous so much of gaming is now and the two never digging deeply into mechanics their commentary probably would have become very one-note.

how come virtually everyone in here praising this demake are the same people that shill for troons, '''''''f*male codexers'''''', the latest thing, ukraine, the vax, etc?
And so, after 32 hours (probably a good chunk went towards the damn shooting galleries), I finally killed generic abomination final boss with a rocket launcher and escaped with the chick on a jet ski.
Missed the very last medalion of the very last side-quest (it's designed to be as easily missable as possible, entirely on purpose I think), got all the clockwork figures without even trying to get them all, and got all the treasures. Didn't get all gold tokens on the last shooting gallery, because fuck aiming with a controller.

Also, why is Ada constantly showing up to try and steal the sample of whatever horrible thing is turning people into monsters at the end of every game? G virus, plaga parasite, is she collecting these things? Shame she didn't show up in RE7/8 to steal a sample of the magic mold.

Modes so few people cared about that Naughty Dog didn't even push the developer to include them in the PlayStation 5 and Windows ports. (Then again, they didn't push for the first three games either, believing new players would want to skip straight to the new.) I've had my PS4 for five years and only paid for multiplayer for about a month. Remember the survival mode having a lot of bloated hit points and multiplayer being poorly balanced.
