What is wrong with balding hero? He looks realistic and mature I quite like it, much better then generic dudebro badass hero

Mr. Baldy seriously breaks immershun.

Firstly, it messes up the whole escapism thing - people play games to experience themselves as something else. Considering that a fairly sizable portion of the gamers may look like R3's protagonist, it may be like an insult thrown back at them. What's next - Dark Souls 3: Milhouse? That's gonna hit a nerve, hehehe.

Secondly, it's about suspension of disbelief. People expect that an occupation somewhat reflects on an appearance. Mr. Baldy here, for example, I could buy as some trader guy, or maybe a non-military ship captain, or maybe a scoundrel of sorts. But he sure doesn't look like the guy who'd venture into an unexplored dungeon to perform feats of endurance and martial skill by massacring the entire dungeon population. He looks like a G1 digger-for-life.

He looks gruff and malnourished, like you'd expect some guy with "Job: Adventurer" on his resume to look like.

Of course this is all a moot point since you'll probably cover his entire head with a helmet five minutes into the game.

Well, there's always Mr. Baldguy "The Everyman" Nondescripton.

Strap Yourselves In Serpent in the Staglands Shadorwun: Hong Kong Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag. Pathfinder: Wrath I'm very into cock and ball torture I helped put crap in Monomyth
I don't mind the baldness, but that chin. Or lack thereof...

Actually that'd be pretty funny to watch while playing.

it's one thing to look "unattractive", it's another to look like a drunk pornslinger from Turkey with severely hampered tonus.

I just don't like it when I play a non-party rpg with a predefined generic character without customization options and that generic character looks more fucked up and whimsical than myself.

Funny thing is, helmets have always been kinda sparse in PB games. Gothic I and II didn't have helmets at all aside from ones integrated into some of the armor models, Gothic III had only a few unique helms that you could play the entire game without finding one, Risen 1 had helms but I found my first one only in the second half of the game and Risen 2 had pirate hats. So, the hero's head is most certainly visible in PB games if anywhere

does this guy look like a baddass dudebro to you?

what about now ?
Paladin_(vorne).PNG
grosse_Feuermagierrobe.jpg

the whole point of Gothic is that you start as a believable regular guy who happens to be able to pull ahead by using his own resources, wit, str, dex, magic and is favored a little from time to time by the Gods themselves. Not that you start off as some baddass hero who can 1 shot 10 of goblins per encounter just like in dragon age
And when you do get your first militia armor, or fire robe, or join mercenaries your status is elevated and you look more badass in correspondence to your deeds, there is an actual progression. And you feel like it is earned and wear it with pride.
To me that is the whole point of progression not just random ego trips with no consequences that any moron can do so that little 10 year old Billy can feel immersion. But little retard Billy cannot take that he can die, he must be able to kill 10 bandits from start using EPIC AWESOME BUTTON, he must be constantly spoon fed ego candy like a retard he is. He cannot savoir that the forest is dangerous and you can die from a pack of wolfs, a one goblin at a start, that some bandit can mug you if fuck up, that you work as a farmhead to get your suit, that nobody gives a fuck if you get beat up and robbed, that there are actual consequences to your action (think of the poor children)
No, dying by wolfs for little Billy is teh ruining imershun, from him dying must be at least from a fire God, or a dragon just like in Skyrim

And that is why modern gaming is shit

One week later and the Codex is still discussing how derpy the protagonist looks in Risen 3. I had to double check to make sure that I am not the Bioware Social Network. :outrage:

No, really, is discussing that a neckbeard looks lame on the hero on the same level as pondering what Tali's sweat tastes like? Fuck off.

Gotta love the resident Codex PC police spouting their "ugly = good" slogans. :decline:

Well, we have seen screenshots where the protagonist didn't look derpy, he had a beautiful chin, a perfectly formed Arian nose and a full head of long, luscious and healthy hair. Everyone on BSN would approve.

Maybe the game has a character creator and PB decided to make the protagonist look like Mr. McDerp in those screenies, because lol.

Codex 2.0 requires a Ken doll dress up mini-game in Gothic. Why should that be surprising to anyone at this point?

The retarded thing is that the camera is over the shoulder therefore his ass is more important.
