Rock Paper Shotgun doesn't play Skullgirls (but talks about how sexist it is)

Pretty much all male characters are woman "gazey" so hey, eat a dick.
This is what some men actually believe.

From the comment section:

“Our lead animator is a woman,” lead designer at Reverge Peter Bartholow told Eurogamer. “She intentionally lavishes attention on the breasts herself because she thinks it’s cool. All the people who seem bothered by it are guys. It’s a weird chivalry intent thing that’s sort of misplaced and maybe shallow, even, because they see breasts and panty flashes and they go, that’s sexist, but I’ve yet to meet a woman who has complained about it. They’re over-thinking it.

“I’m like, did you know our lead animator is a woman? Then he’s like, that’s amazing. It’s like I gave him the excuse to think it was okay all of a sudden, or to admit he liked it, which really amused me and seemed emblematic of the entire situation around that.

I don't really understand why men White Knight like they do. What's even more befuddling to me is how easily tricked they are.

Well sit on my lap and let me tell you why son. These men are white knighting because they hope that this crusading will earn them one day pity sex from some feminist. What they don't realize is that this act is just as successful as a guy that has been friend zoned and we all know how that goes.

By "stuff" my mean "snuff rape porn", right?
:D

So the incredibly muscular perfect man wearing only a loincloth that serves as the protagonist of God of War is okay. Dante's perfect abs on Devil May Cry (exposed on several of his costumes in DMC3, including one where he only wears pants) is okay. Every superhero with a ridiculously muscular body (with muscles that dont even exist) and impossibly tight spandex as their only "armor" is okay. Having the astounding majority of male protagonists in the gaming industry as muscular men with wide shoulders is okay. But a female in a game possesses breasts? OH MY GOD SEXISM I'M BEING RAPED RED ALERT RED ALERT

We all know that women cant be sexy. Right guys? Sexy is bad. Who likes sex anyways? Sex is horrible. (Extreme violence is okay though)

There's so much hypocrisy in that article that i couldnt even read it thoroughly. It made me cringe so hard i looked like Judge Dredd for a few minutes.

Welcome to :patriot: Where were you over the last 2 decades.

Translation: I want a game composed entirely of little girls.

Isn't there a whole industry in Japan doing just that?

That is a lie as they are all 18 and are just under developed.

Frankly I totally think men are far more 'abused' in their stereotyping portrayals. Especially in video games, where all male protagonists are perfectly muscular and commanding. EVEN if by some chance you get an anti hero... he still somehow manages to ooze/exude an aura of "I'm not really a bad guy guyz, I just have trouble with my emo emotions." It's a joke. At least the women in fighting games who wear clothing that barely cover's up the entry points to their body come with distinct personalities. Also as some have said... since when is imagining perfect people doing awesome things become a taboo?

All that body image crap is in your own head anyway. If you think the problem will suddenly go away if you remove the billboards with those stuck up anorexic bitches, that are always sneering down at you, will somehow help....

Anyway I have an appointment with a plastic surgeon, be back later bros.

FFS. People need to accept that video games are low culture. Low culture does shit like that, celebrate the basest, superficial aspects. It's van art for the most part, or shock radio. Cool dudes and tits ahoy. So if they're so high falutin', progressive, and educated, why are they wasting so much time on low culture? Why isn't this beneath them, like mud wrestling or rodeo would be beneath them? "But we want video games to mature/improve/be accepted/citizenkane/blargh!" Yeah, and I want midget tossing to clean up its act, so it's less moronic for me. Actually no, I don't waste time on things that aren't up to my standards. Or...maybe I'm not as progressive and educated as I think I am...*hmmm.jpg*

And if they truly think that video games are worthwhile culture, maybe stop propping up stuff like Bioshock: Elizatits and Degrassi Effect starring IGN Camwhore Jessica Chobot as the best shit ever, 10/10. That's like a self-styled champion of higher music talking about a new Gucci Mane record instead of a lost Bach piece just got discovered. Stop celebrating the equivalent of Russ Meyer films starring Reb Brown.

Eh, I think with Skullgirls it's like bitching about how one of the underground auteur-cartoonists draws women, it's basically just Alex Ahad (the character designer) communicating his personal inner world of girly images. You can say the patriarchy put it there but it's pretty straight self-expression. Skullgirls is not some AAA game that exists to service capital investments.

The combos are also too hard

Careful. It's objectification if you can't hide it in your nightstand like a Petey North molded dildo, or in the pages of a "romance" novel.

Actually, I'm surprised that Roguey didn't bring up this comic, which attempts to explain the difference. Many tumblr SJW use it constantly in discussions.

Basically, it comes down to two points: a) all women in entertainment (comics, games, etc) are made for an ellusive male gaze to be visual candy; b) while muscled man aren't sexualized but used like an "ideal self". Oh and c) that chick doesn't find overly muscled men attractive. Personally I think it's a gross oversimplification at best, but here's SJW for you.

Wow, reading the quotes from the article and not knowing the game I thought it would be some weird japan rape game. Then I clicked on the hp for the game and saw that it's a fighting game with anime cartoon girls and couldn't stop laughing for a minute. And this on work.

It has nothing to do with oversimplification, the comic is out right lying by pushing an agenda within an agenda. It is trying to argue that women do not in fact find power male fantasies to be attractive. This is just projecting the author's on view on what women ought like in a man and has jack to do with what women actually do like (which is muscular and powerful men). The thing is, the author could have easily argued that both male and female characters are made to appeal to men, whatever it is that women like, but that would have required not having a huge l1brul dick firmly lodged up his asshole. Of course, the reality is that women prefer attractive female characters as well, which is even more ironic. Boys fantasize about being big and powerful. Girls fantasize about being beautiful and attractive. Those things have jack to do with patriarchy or oppression, its just how boys and girls are wired.

Yep, women totally don't like tall, well-built men. They like lean guys with big eyes, puffy lips and... hurr... rosy cheeks. Yep, that's totally it and I, for one, am glad that we have internet comics to spread truth among the stupid and the blind.

I think that comic knows more about what women want than you guys do. Look at sexual fantasies explicitly aimed at women, such as boy bands. All of them lean guys, no bodybuilders in sight.

Or even consider the archetype of male beauty, Michelangelo's David. There's that lean guy again. Firm and strong body yes, but no inflated bodybuilder muscles.

RPS is shit, my black brother. Why do you even care?
Skullgirls at least provides some decent 34, unlike other shitty fighter games

There is no "the women". Some women like muscular men and some don't. Like some men like big fake boobs and some not. Too much generalisation never resemble the reality and is therefore pointless most of the time.

Willis is a well-meaning idiot and his female characters don't speak for all women.

Also that comic suggests that kind of man is never depicted in comics which is totally wrong. Hot.

I usually don't take part in this kind of debate, but I never understood what is women's problem with pretty, sexy women in videogames. I understand that portraing them in little to no clothes, acting like a whore is bad, I get that. But they are up in arms even if they have large breasts and tight suits. What's the problem with that? Let's face it, everybody- be it male or female - would like to be handsome, pretty, sexy, as good looking as possible. So why doesn't women like pretty ladies in the game. Would it be better if they had to watch and control a girl abomination in the game? Or are they jealous that they are fugly and not as pretty as the game characters. Well I'm not a handsome man and I take no offense in controlling a handsome hero. And don't talk to me about that power fantasy crap. That shit was just made up, so feminists can answer something to the "why muscular heross are not objectified, but women are" question.

A) Elusive "male gaze"? That these female characters are attractive it's a fact. What upsets feminists is that these characters reflect the fact that men prefer to relate with attractive women in real life.

"eye-candy"

Yes, men love looking at hot women and do this all the time in real life. By this logic, you can't include this kind of stuff in entertainment products aimed at men. Feminist logic at best.

B) That 'ideal self' is sexualized, otherwise, these male characters wouldn't have sex with female characters all the time.

Also, the author of the comic is a (surprise) man and the term "male gaze" is feminist crap which aims to demonize male sexuality.

A feminist or manboob would say that these male archetypes appeal to men more.

Well, if they did they'd be right. It's not like Duke Nukem was designed to win over female gamers.

Edit: That is to say, that in these situations the archetypes are for men, not that the archetypes as a whole appeal more to men than women (Which I don't know; they obviously appeal to segments of both).
