It's absolutely ridiculous to let people from twitter vote in what's supposed to be a Codex poll.

We know what the average RPG fan likes (bad stuff), a Codex poll should reflect the tastes of Codex users; only people with an account should be able to vote.

If all the redditors, shills, and twiteristas can vote, the results wont reflect a codex opinion at all.

In other words, if people who never posts here can be voting, this is not a codex poll anymore.

Fucking Eiyu*senki, a fairly shitty game that apes its superiors, gets a mention, and Rance Quest doesn't? :baka:

I'm very into cock and ball torture
I think there is a very simple trick that can cut down a lot of wining about this list without actually changing a thing.
As the comments to this GOTY list have revealed frightening things about the mental qualities of the average codexian, I think a lot of people take the impressions that too many JRPGs are on the list from the first page full of ports and remasters. That page is almost entirely Japanese games, as Western devs have no respect for the past old Western games still run on PCs. Swapping the actual games in front of the remasters should curb down on crying a bit, without being an actual change.

First impressions matter a lot, and that way when you open the poll you will be greeted by a bunch of decent games like Atom RPG, Age of Fear and Black Book, instead of seeing 5 different games named Atelier Dorothee and Lyselle : 3.1 a fragmentary Prelude to ver.1.22474487139..., upon which a lot of god fearing grognards here cracked their alt + f4 keys by in horror by trying to close the page as fast as possible.

the distant past.
So I joined the Codex late, but I've been playing RPGs since Ultima III. Please forgive an old newfag who loves classic (and classic modern ;) ) RPGs for the temerity of having an opinion.

Anyway, I voted 4s for the Geneforge remake and The Chronicles of Myrtana: Archolos.
Despite one being a remake, and the other being a mod for an old game (a full new adventure, though), I thought they were worthy. And, also, RPGs...

The classic modern Realms of Antiquity was a 3.
There were one or two others at 3 or 2. Not worth mentioning, really.

Didn't play almost any of the others. Most I've never heard of, so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Back to lurking...

The problem is the symbolic meaning, as the codex prides itself as being a super secret enclave of prestigious taste, and sharing our polls on twitter is metaphorically opening the gates to the barbarians.

13 likes, at least half of them from Codexers. Clearly Mass Effect will win with 5 billion votes.

Get real, the Codex hated by most of the internet, long gone are the days of having CrookedBee doing important retro interviews with developers, roundtables on RPG design or smart editorials that would go viral. No one cares anymore.

I don't think the rest of the internet knows this place exists. Don't over inflate yourselves.

people are complaining and taking a brave stance but I cant see anyone brave enough to start pinging DU about it. You know, the only person who can actually make it happen

I am curious, which other 3s did you gave out?
ATOM RPG: Trudograd and Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous, IIRC.
Although I freely admit that I have not played either more than the beginning areas, and definitely not played enough to say for certain that they're still a 3 if played through fully.
But both ARE RPGs, pretty good as far as I've played, and P:WotR does seem to be a good implementation of the PnP adventure path.

Well, another thing: GOTY votings should be conducted at least 6 months after the end of the year. Rusty has taken that advice onboard and he's conducting his 2021 GOTY poll at the end of 2022 (IMHO, that's the correct way of doing it).

Haven't played enough new games to feel like voting, but hoo boy, this topic is a trip. I'm surprised some people around here can even sit down with how butthurt they are.

Also, fantadomat's poll had 37 games and people complained that stuff was missing. I did 150, now people complain that there's too much
LoL people didn't complained about missing games, retards were whining for games that they liked but didn't fit in the poll. Like fucking kotc2,because it hasn't come out,or some hentai garbage game,i believe konjad was screeching about it. Also if you want muh prestige, you need to have some fucking curation and not let every shitty generic jrpg on the fucking list. If you include jrpgs at least keep them to a few good ones. If it was like voting for a single or a few games you like out of the 150 it would have been fine, but your poll is about giving an ''honest'' rating to the games you have played, that is like half an hour of wasted time. Also i mean the list that abu gave you in the recommendation or maybe me goty thread. If you just put the whole steam rpg release garbage it would have been more funny lol. You could have just used me list and just added a few more games that you thought that are good or deserve to be on the list.

This poll shouldn't be available to non-Codex people.

this

i can't wait for the 'codex consensus' influenced by twitter randos
Yeah, because this is not something that happens for years now lol.

Jokes aside, the kodex does have very casual collective taste. It is pretty hard to talk about niche games in here, most threads get ignored for the bigger titles that come from 'star' hasbeens. The best discussion that i have had here about rpgs were in the shoutbox with the weirdest users lol.

I am curious how the good games will do in this pool, like vagrus, black book,nu atom,nu gothic, encased and a few others. Gamedec was not bad too. It is pretty tedious to see people bitch about muh commercial games yet end up with the most generic choice for a goty lol. Also people that brag about how they haven't played a single rpg this year, should be kicked out,it is the RPGkodex.....for now.

Codexer: Complains about everyone only liking or discussing popular rpgs for the masses.

Codexer: Sees less popular and talked about rpgs. Get butthurt. News at 11.
WRONG

It's actually:

Codexer: Complains about popular rpgs for the masses being shit.

Also Codexer: Complains about obscure no-name weaboo garbage being shit. Gets butthurt about it being mentioned in the same converation as some stuff that's at least half-decent, or even just an actual RPG.

In conclusion, everything is as it should be. The poll can fuck off.
WRONG

It's actually:

Some significant part of the codex are going to be cynical edgelords no matter what is released. It doesn't matter if it's an old-school RPG, if it has turn based combat, if it's isometric, if 3 games gets released this year that are as good as BG2 or PS:T, they're still going to be cynical dickwads and probably inject their right wing politics into their "criticism" of it.

Being cynical and edgy on the codex has always been a valid substitute for having a brain, and it has always given you credit within certain circles.

DarkUnderlord

(Rig it to make sure The Chronicles Of Myrtana: Archolos wins is what he means).
The Archolos fans are more butthurt about Wrothfinder than the other way around, so the poll allowing for 'negative' votes has a pretty decent chance of meaning Archolos will take this one while Wrothfinder took the "positive votes only" poll.

How many of the games on the list have you played and finished ? You seem like one of the few people that actually play many rpgs and I'd like to get an idea how many games people actually manage to play. After a quick count I'd estimate myself at 10-15 games per year over all genres and also including replays of older games. I will play Chronicles of Myrtana: Archolos in the future, the same goes for Atom : Turbograd but these game have barely been released, (at least on my time scale). In another 1-2 years I could vote on them. I still think that the poll mostly shows which games were played at all shortly after release and I doubt that the poll is a good measure of quality.
