"There is also a bald black NPC you can recruit who only cares about killing as much as possible"

Thanks for the review, but from it I did not understand anything about this "greed system". What is it practically?

A pretty short and to the point review. I don't really like when other titles are mentioned in reviews when used for comparison but I guess that's kinda inevitable when it comes to CRPGs. Besides, it looks like this was written with the idea that RPG folks are the main audience.

I liked what I read. The greed system being only cosmetic is a bit disappointing. And I wish there was more info about the royal diplomacy in the game. Most games try to make you feel like a king but you only end up promoting you to a mercenary pretending to be king. The weight of the crown should not only give you obligations but power as well.

Putting this on my buy list. Good job on the review. I would have liked if it was a bit longer but this format has its merits as well.

Tried it and didn't like it. This is like someone tried to make Baldur's Gate but with 1/2 the budget and worse writers.
As I mentioned, the beginning kinda sucks. I started to like it once I left the first big town and started to explore the surrounding maps.

And I prefer the concise writing in this one to the pretend-literary style in PoE.

I'm replaying PoE 1 right now and I'm liking it, definitely a worthwhile game in the isometric real time story fag rpg tradition. Black Geyser... it seemed hollow/shallow when I played it last, but I'll revisit it some day now that it has had some patches. I stopped playing at the point where you visit a fair or circus, there's a bunch of tents everywhere and I encountered a bug. But also, that area was just so lacking in content and meaning, it was offensively mediocre and dare I say lazy.

PoE 2 was a really great sequel, hopefully "black geyser" gets one too.

Not to repeat my self but the carnival one is a late in-game area so I guess they ran out of budget by that time. I loved its art tho, some tents are awesome imo

Is that first big town the only big town?

It looks like they tried to make a Baldur's Gate or Beregost.. but ran out of money and time so you get these huge open areas where you have to sprint for 2 hours to get across them but there's nothing there to do or see.

EDIT

Not to repeat my self but the carnival one is a late in-game area so I guess they ran out of budget by that time. I loved its art tho, some tents are awesome imo

Lady Error says the beginning is boring but it "gets good later"

No, it has another ( ! ) big town later, which is slightly better, and has more exciting side quests imo

The other thing you asking. So, it looks like this:

1 . unskippable tutorial (as its party of story)
2 . first couple of hours can be boring, especially the big city
3 . it starts to get better and eventually become awesome in many aspects (again, imo)
4 . SOME late stuff like the carnival one is empty But You Don't Need to spend time there, just do the Main Quest and move on
5. ending maps have very dense and intense battles

also, note that games are not developed in a full Linear Way. I guess (again) that they were like "we will populate the capital city and this carnival later once we are done with the Main stuff" but they ran out of cash. Hope this makes sense

Thanks for the review, Lady Error . It was a little dry, but very informative, and definitely bumped up the game on my to-play list (got it on GOG some time ago).
