Bethesda does not care about adding any cRPG improvements, only what sells to the mass public.

Like DRAGONS!

First place:
Neverwinter Nights OC (expansions were mostly shit too). I hated it so much because, when I held it up to BG2, I couldn't believe it was made by the same people. Sure some of the mods were good and I had a lot of fun playing in a hardcore, permadeath, persistent world for awhile, but fuck this game sideways.

Honorable Mention:
Neverwinter Nights 2 OC (Terrible controls and so goddamn boring and vanilla. Plus Ferret stink is all over that game)
Dungeon Siege 1-3 (first two were just grindy and boring, third one's controls/camera a chore)
Witcher 2 (Great visuals, but I hate the Geralt character and have no interest in "being" him for 20+ hours)
Fallout 3 (Post Apocalyptic Theme Park. So many retarded factions/locales - "Hey let's build a town on top of an un-exploded nuke", "hey look, here's town populated by 8 year old kids ... hundreds of years after the bombs fell," ad nauseum ad infinitum)
Ultima IX (Spoony was right)
Might & Magic IX (blerg)
Dragon Age 2 (Fuck you Bioware)
Mass Defect 2 & 3 (Double fuck you Bioware)
Elder Scrolls IV and V (At this point I should just know better than to play Bethesda games ... but I'm stupid)

I doubt it. Asking Codexers what they hate isn't particularly valuable information. In the supply and demand sense.

Added Game of Thrones to my list of worst RPGs.
Doesn't RPG mean it should posses some gameplay elements and not only cut-scenes?

I heard this from other Codexers. "It is mostly story" or "Don't worry, there's hardly any combat".

I found the story to be mostly so-so, the dialogue and voice acting tedious at best, aggravating at worst, and the combat was nearly constant. There was so much fighting in the game. I couldn't stand it. I'm quite impressed with myself that I managed to complete it.

Pool of Radiance: Ruins of Myth Drannor (it can't get much worse than this)
Most games' shittiness doesn't extend beyond uninstall.
:troll:
That game was one step to publishers recognizing that releasing demos is not always a good thing.

Of course, nowadays, they went one step further and they make customers pay for demos, but that's a different story.

I've played some abysmal shit, The Red Crystal, Shadowlands, Faery Tale Adventure. Do you really think Skyrim even comes close to how bad those games were?

I'd like to know why you are only defending Skyrim and none of the other games mentioned on this page (or in this thread).

Seems to me that like you actually really like Skyrim. Please, tell us why Skyrim is such a great game and does not deserve to be mentioned in this thread.

I picked it to represent any Bethesda game because people were talking about Bethesda here. I don't think it's great but compared to this it's a masterpiece. You can't seriously think that compared to some of the unforgivably bad games of the past, this good-looking hiking sim with absurd production values is trash.

B-but I actually liked Fairy Tale Adventure! ...I think. The second one. Can't for the life of me remember why though, never replayed it again. Was the first one really that bad?

The shitty color scheme means it literally hurts to play this game.
2: Oblivion
Not a single redeeming feature, or even something that could be in better hands, except parts of optional 2 quest lines (which are let down by the horrible mechanics anyways). Inferior to its predessor in every single way, even graphically.

Agree with the sentiment.

There's a lot of mainstream games that I don't particularly care for, and it's certainly dismaying to see the praise heaped upon them by relatively uninformed "gaming critics". Doubly so when said praise influences the direction of the industry/medium. That's probably the main source of vitriol leveled at AAA stuffies like CoD/TES etc; that they have such sway in the gaming world.

But I can't deem things like Oblivion or even DmC: Wuboot/THIAF "WURST GAEM EVAR!!!!!!111!!!!" in any seriousness because there a a ton of awful titles, mostly shovelware, released throughout the history of the medium that make them look, well....decent.

Here's an interesting exercise: go to some sort of (relatively comprehensive) database of games, select 5-10 at random, and play them, if able. It's certain to ground one's perspective on quality.

Duh, of course such lists should about naming games that had a wide recognition in the gaming world for their time.

Absolutely no point in naming some god forsaken budget shovelware bar waving the "I played more obscure games than you" e-dick.

Well, that's the crux of "worst game ever" threads. Games will land on these for a multitude of reasons. They probably engaged you on some level, otherwise you would probably just have forgotten them. Games like Oblivion end up there because they somehow broke a promise.

On the other hand, I had to be reminded of Pool of Radiance: Ruins of Myth Drannor. It was just dreadful with its clunky interface and it's monotonous endgame that was hardly ever seen by anyone trying to play that piece of shit. Or Dungeon Lords with its asinine respawn mechanic and that "gorgeous" town hub. And that's still better than some nameless shovelware. The brain tends to mercifully remove the truly bad stuff from memory.

I can give you a much simpler reason than the one provided:

Of all games listed Skyrim is the only one that's both so trendy to be considered shit here so that simple :nocountryforshitposters: no longer works as sufficient rebuttal, and not shit enough to actually make reasonable poster's list.

Even when only considering worst somewhat successful or near successful games Skyrim doesn't quite have what it takes to make the list.

No, it's horrible but you love it
When I think about writing down such a list, I don't even remember if I hated any of the RPGs I've played. The only exception that comes to mind is Skyrim because it makes me rage and unlike many people here, I haven't spent 200 hours on it only to declare it shit later. I don't even know how to classify it - it's a bad action RPG because the action is fucking floaty, unexciting, unrewarding and ugly looking and the engine is garbage. It's a bad RPG because it's not that much of an RPG, it should really be called action RPG and thus the previous criticism applies. It's even a bad game because nothing you do fucking matters, it's derpy as fuck, it's got annoying cliff racers, it shits all over the good premise/franchise, it's aRPGlite+sims without actually being good, as evidenced by the brainless cocksucking zombie retard gamers who play it as if it was their real life, without having a clue what a good game looks like. Girl gamers, autist gamers, old gamers, nigger gamers, children gamers, SKYRIM IS FOR EVERYBODY so that the only people who can't enjoy this fucking shit-fest are people who like games.

Uh it really made me angry just thinking about it again, that's silly. I'm so sorry, dragon :(

Well... duh. I have several CDs of horrible shovelware I picked up at some late 90's sale, plus I remember playing some obscure Hungarian 'RPG's that were both complete shit and never translated to any other language. Most of these games are barely playable, and even the 'best' ones are bland and unmemorable. Thing is, posting a list of those games would be kinda pointless.

IMO this thread should be about games that were either massive disappointments based on hype (Ishar, Septerra Core) or expectations from previous games (Dungeon Hack), or high-profile shit (Legends of Valour).
