Mostly listing CRPGs here that looked promising, but were a huge letdown after I actually played them for more than a few minutes.

Captive (PC version; looked like it had lots of potential, but devolved into repetition quick-like)
Daemonsgate (this one was just crap all around)
Dungeon Hack (pointless, especially since FRUA was also available)
Ishar 1-2-3 (great graphics, but the actual 'game' part was uninspiring)
Legends of Valour (terrible graphics, confusing gameplay or lack thereof)
NWN OC (zzz)
Septerra Core (tedium++)
Witcher (dat inventory management and crappy combat!)
Witcher 2 (eye-rollingly bad dialogue and even worse combat. Also, QTEs.)

Not included: any Diablo-like game or Diablo clone, since I can't bring myself to play them for more than 10 minutes.

Worst of the worst:

Arcania
Descent To Undermountain
Gothic 3: Forsaken Gods
Dragon Age 2
Might & Magic IX
Ultima IX
Lands of Lore III
Dungeon Lords
Pool of Radiance 2 : Ruins of Myth Drannor

Dishonourable mentions (Saved only by the fact, that they turned out to be great toolsets and i've enjoyed mods made with them more than some classic RPG-s):

Dungeon Siege
Oblivion
Neverwinter Nights

I know this isn't an objective choice - hell, Ultima 1 and 2 are objectively far worse, but I enjoyed the hell out of those games in 1983. Oblivion, on the other hand, was the marker of the great crpg collapse - I don't recall being completely lost for good games to play until that arrived and dominated the market.

I like it that you hated mass effect and still played 2. Hated that too and then played 3 :D

I got as far as the citadel in 1 and never played them again. Life's too short.

The Elder Scrolls IV : Oblivion
Fallout 3
The Elder Scrolls V : Skyrim
Arcania : Gothic 4
Mass Effect 3
Diablo 3
Dragon Age 2

Unfortunately that means I played each and every one of these games.

There were a few others I was tempted to add based on being grossly overrated, but ultimately I decided not to. Most of said games are actually very good (and one I would go as far as saying is great) and don't belong in the same list as the above games.

Ok, somebody please check my math.

Oblivion - 51 votes
NWN - 44 votes
DA2 and Fallout 3 - 37 votes
Gothic 4 and Mass Effect - 21 votes
Dungeon Siege - 18 votes

That should be enough to round things up unless everybody wants to cast tie-breaker votes.

Fallout 3 needs at least 15 more ballots! : x
It belongs right up there with Might&Magic IX and Ultima IX in the top 3 of worst games/sequels ever produced!

Oblivion was good for what it was :pete:

Grab the Codex by the pussy Divinity: Original Sin Torment: Tides of Numenera Shadorwun: Hong Kong Pathfinder: Kingmaker Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag. Pathfinder: Wrath I'm very into cock and ball torture
You guys voted for Dungeon Siege? Man, I love this site. When that game came out there was a lot of hype which resulted in me purchasing the game. I tried it and realized I couldn't get into after a few hours, as I didn't optimize my party and kept getting killed at the mid-levels. I could have started it again, but the gameplay seemed to be lacking. It was just a game where you tried to make the most optimal characters and blast things until they stopped moving. There wasn't much in the way of tactics or puzzles and I found it repetitive and boring. Great to know I'm not the only one who largely disliked it.

I would agree with all of those votes for worst games, except Gothic 4 and Dragon Age 2 as I never played them. But if DA2 was anything like the first one, it would have made my list. A shame to hear that Gothic 4 was crap as I did like the first three well enough. Mass Effect was not a great RPG, but I played worse. It was decent enough that I finished the game, but not good enough for me to purchase the continuations.

But from what I hear PB jumped the shark with Risen 2, so a new Gothic from them may not necessarily be a good thing.
