Hey, remember how some of you mongs were asking how I'd alter the gimbaled guns shit? Stumbled across this visual aid I made years back outlining one idea while digging through some old files:

Not that it really matters anymore, mind you.

that's pretty much (the right one) how it works in Elite Dongerous (except the circle is larger) and it's okay

Yep, it is, and you're exactly right. I had the same realization when I found the image.

I created the image before E:D had been released/before I'd played it.

Honestly, I had thought of this vaporware but that actual gameplay snippet gave me back some of the faith (not that it matters, I didn't pay for this crap lel, I'll just get it if it actually works).

The elements all in all seemed to work well together as is and even if they simply expanded on that with some storyline that had Mark Hamill and Rhys innit I believe it'd be at least worth of the 75% Steam sales price.

Its always going to be hard leaving a cult that I helped to build - But it was time to do it.

Not only has the game changed, but so has the community. Its hard to watch the transition between "tech savvy people with a bit of money to invest in a fun project" into "hypemachine! - you are not valid unless you invest, and subsequently don't complain"

It is a shame that CR has not been able to admit to himself that he couldn't handle this, and I promise - this is the same goddamn problem every single one of us have, role delegation, letting someone else take over, when we don't have the time/skills to do it anymore.

So, assets are getting done, redone, changed, people jump off, new guys come in, hype online, the name that shouldn't be mentioned, grey market crashing, 2.0 another disappointment, this feels like a DEMO cd from the front of a magazine in the damn 90's... AAAARRRH......

Silence. . . .I had had enough. This project's direction is lost within itself.

I had tried to sell my stuff, so that CIG could keep the money I had donated, but, I couldn't even get half of what I had invested. So, I decided to just mail CIG and ask them for my money back. And they gave it to me. I wasn't angry, I wasn't rude, I just gave the person handling my transaction the relevant info so they could do their job without drama, and they gave it to me. Because that's how things work when you make another persons job easy for them. (note to self CR)

And you know what... I am happy.

No, that was a lie... I feel relieved. I got my money back - those (hundreds of billions of gazillions of)* dollars that I can use, to buy actual games, Help others over Christmas (in Sweden we have many homeless refugees fleeing a war in Syria), or even upgrade my own system. It doesn't feel like I got taken for a ride anymore.

I want to thank you all though.. I will miss those days of compete immersion, where we all just escaped into a world of Adventure and Discovery. The beast is different these days for me though.

Have an awesome holiday over Christmas and New Year!!!!

/me

*Q. why does the amount of money I invested make my opinion any more... or even less, valid to you personally?(you don't need to tell us all....)

Edit: Interesting that so many of you think this decision was taken due to Black Market Crashing.... In fact, I have never bought anything from the black market, and decided it was better for you all to try and sell there first, rather than ask for a refund? Much confused....

Edit again! : Thanks for all your comments, tried to respond to you all. Despite the fear of asshat comments/downvotes, I was surprised just how many understood why. So thanks for all the comments, and PMs. Admins can feel free to lock/shutdown or whatever. Have a merry Christmas, and if you are considering asking for a refund, you are not alone.

Those comments... every single cultist refers to paying money for Internet spaceships as "investing".

Say what you will about me, but at no point did I delude myself into thinking I was making an "investment" into anything (although, as I'm fond of reminding everyone, I ended up turning a huge profit when I ejected). Mother of God, these people are stupid. Strictly speaking, donating time, money, or materiel to any sort of endeavor or project can be referred to as "investing" even with no expectation of a personal monetary return—but in this case, they're clearly using the word as a euphemism.

Also in the comments, the cultists make it blatantly and repeatedly clear that, in their view, someone's opinion only matters as much as the amount they've "invested" in Star Citizen. That's some truly breathtaking retardation.

The grey market actually crashed, eh? It was bound to at some point, even if the game were on track to be wildly successful.

I have a hard time believing one person's post about the grey market crashing.

It may have or it might not have. I have no way of telling since I have no idea how much the ships are... "worth" in the Star Citizen market.

From a quick glance at the reddit star citizen subreddit the following prices sold ships within 24 hours:

Light Speed LTI Package for $150 USD
Digital Scout LTI Package M50 Upgrade $125 USD
Read Admiral LTI $400 USD
Sabre Upgrade $35 USD

Is that more or less than what they used to get? The same? I dunno.

If I recall correctly (and I might not) it took you a few days to offload your ships on the market?

From what I interpret from this person's ramblings they tried to sell their ships and then gave up rather quickly (perhaps hours? a day? they don't say but I doubt they put any real effort into it.)

Rear Admiral LTI $400 USD

That was my initial pledge package back in 2012 and it cost $250, so perhaps you're right. It may be that by "grey market crash" he refers to the inability to sell high-ticket ships for a huge markup, as I did. It's no surprise that the number of people willing to pay $1,000 or more for a single ship has fallen off a cliff in the past year or two. Some people are no doubt also trying to break even reselling the ships they purchased from the grey market at inflated prices.

I sold my pledge ships on the grey market twice: Firstly to sell off the most rare and expensive ones, so that if the game bombed I'd come out financially ahead, while still having a "founder's" pledge package and a few other nice ships. When I realized the project was indeed going full retard, I sold the rest. I don't remember exactly, but it only took me a few days to sell my ships due to my being picky about whom I sold them to, and the particulars of sealing the deal. I insisted they contact me by phone, for example. I was inundated with offers immediately in both cases, though. When I initially put my Vanduul Scythe and Idris Corvette up for sale, I priced them at $1,500 for the Scythe (5x the original cost of $300) and $2,000 for the Corvette (2x the original cost), which was rather low, if you can believe it.

Just a heads up.
Your chance to try out Star Citizen for free is here even if you are not backer of the game. You can play 3 ships (Aurora MR, Mustang Alpha, Gladius) in Arena Commander mode until December 14 — all you need to do is register an account here and download the game. This free trial is to celebrate the Game Awards 2015 and debut of the Star Citizen Alpha 2.0 trailer.

The whole Star Citizen deal is incredibly shady. I'd be willing to believe $10m but almost ten times more? From crowdfunding? Don't make me laugh. That doesn't compute no matter how you look at it. Hey, money doesn't grow on trees - you can't go to your back yard and come back with $90m in an apple basket.

As we all know their KS was nothing special - $2m. Mildly successful. And then suddenly this thing exploded for no reason. How come no-one can replicate their success? How come no-one even tries to? When WoW got big everyone instantly rushed to make MMOs, remember?

Somebody is pouring money into SC. Now there's no way big business would give that kind of dough to an experimental vapourware project. Which means that "somebody" is a government agency. And you cannot expect anything good from a government agency.

I could come up with any number of cuckoo ideas ranging from surveillance or behavior prediction to espionage or mind control. But there's no proof and I'm not into brainstorming conspiracy theories - it's just a gut feeling that something is wrong here. Neither would I claim that whatever they're trying to pull actually works. What I claim is that a wise man should steer clear of the whole mess.

Why do people keep calling it vaporware? Even if you think the game will suck in the end, it's pretty fucking clear they have an actual game being made that already has a large part of the core systems operational (e.g. multi-crew ships that you can walk around on in-flight, first person shooter mechanics, basics of in-flight systems management, etc.) and available to play.

I mean at what point does it cease being "vaporware"?

It has slightly less playability than Grimoire.

It's still vaoprware.

Well, i gave it a whirl. All i can say is broken game is broken. I know it is alpha and all but man. Glitches everywhere, and horrible performance. Not sure what was the point of releasing this demo.

Hangar is still there. You load the game, press f to pay respect to the ship, and then you are stuck in it. Training modules work, but the performance is unsightly. At very high (no ultra setting that i can see. No advanced graphic options either, so who knows what's in there), i get 30 FPS in space and about 10 inside the station. I don't have the most powerful computer in the world but i can run BF4 on ultra and get stable 40 FPS (60 on multiplayer maps) so it is obvious a matter of optimization.

But then again, public alpha test is alpha. Will goof around with it until the 14th, but doesn't seem there's enough in it to really say whether i'm going to like the game or not, broken stuff aside.

Funny, but a bit deceptive. You can actually board your ship, and it's pretty neat. In the case of fighters, you climb up the ladder, get into one of the seats, close the canopy, and then power up the ship. With larger ships, you get onto an elevator or ramp, close that, and head to the cockpit. In and of itself, such a feature is p. incline. Obviously, it's a novelty and doesn't a good game make.

If I remember correctly from my time playing Arena Commander, there's no launch sequence yet.
